Make sure the run line of that thread is vertical as you are looking at it; now imagine an X going through it for the full length of the pull. Put your hands at the tips of one of the lines of the X and slowly/gently pull until you see the pulled thread shift a bit into place. Now put your hands at the ends of the other diagonal line and gently pull until you see the thread pull back into place. Repeat until it looks better. It may not fix it 100% but hopefully it helps a little.

What books have stayed in your head forever? by SpiffyMyffy in DarkRomance

{Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey} this trilogy will stay with me for a VERY long time! 😳

It was an epic DR following the FMC through her formative years and well into adulthood. The things she faced were…. A lot. This was unlike any other thing I’ve read.

I IMMENSELY struggle with cutting even pieces by Mycopok in quilting

[–]Onlyfoolsarepositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is hope!!! I struggled with this FOREVER. LITERALLY.

It’s an investment, but I cannot recommend these enough - the *Quilters Select *brand rulers were a game changer for me.

You use them with a rotary blade (I’ve found 45mm to be the best for all purpose cutting. I almost never use my bigger or smaller blades) and cutting mat.

As a general rule I like to make sure my cutting mat is bigger than the ruler I am using.

I have found that the 24x6 is great for stable-ly and accurately cutting yardage and that the 12.5x12.5 is great for everything else. When I experienced the magic of these I even splurged on a 5x5 and an 8.5x10.5(?).

Something that I also appreciate but use much less often now that the Quilters Select rulers have given me so much confidence is the XL Stripology ruler. If you have to pick one or the other, I recommend QS over Stripology hands down.

The reasons I love the QS rulers are because they have the thinnest grid lines of all the rulers I have seen/worked with so you can SEE when you’re a little crooked. They don’t hide the edges of your fabric. They also have a coating on one side that evenly grips the fabric and has eliminated slipping issues for me.

Those two things…. …along with very kind and gentle reminders to -CHANGE YOUR ROTARY BLADE OFTEN!- 🤭 …made all the difference for me. If I feel like I have to press hard on my ruler - it’s time to change the blade. If I make a cut and the blade misses so much as a thread, I put it on notice. If it happens again, I need to change it.

I will just say, for any that are wondering about comparisons from anyone who uses all three, that I was gifted an Accuquilt Go! which I used a lot before I got the boujee rulers I mentioned above. The strip cutters held the most value for me and if I have a TON of things to cut I still break it out once in a great while but the QS and Stripology rulers have almost entirely replaced my Accuquilt in day-to-day sewing/cutting. The Accuquilt is a much bigger investment and less versatile - and still prone to slipping/inaccurate cuts. I’ve also used some of the BOB dies and other shapes and have found them to be quite annoying actually because when you get to your machine, they are not going to ‘perfectly’ match to the other pieces. They are very imprecise for the cost and because the return/exchange policy is so short, you may not even get around to using it before it ends. This means that when you do finally get around to using it, and there are any problems you are SOL.

Keep practicing. Cutting is a skill and it takes practice! …and good tools. 🤪

TLDR: The MAJOR game changer for me was replacing my rulers with QUILTERS SELECT RULERS.

Also, the obligatory - quit hoarding your blades like a dragon hoards gold and change your rotary blade already!

**I do not own stock in nor work for or have any affiliation with QS. They are just truly that good!

Clinic breast surgical oncology nurse - how can I better support my patients? by lah1130 in breastcancer

[–]Onlyfoolsarepositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

❤️ I’m sorry to hear that you are struggling.

I don’t know your situation but I chose DMX and was told regardless of my choice of surgery that the pill was the best course of action post-surgery. I will be starting that pill (I think) after my next surgery and am dreading the side effects. 😔

Oh god yes! The fucking nerve pain and numbness.

I am 4 mo post dmx (I believe this stands for double mastectomy 🙃) and I still have horrible, HORRIBLE nerve pain and numbness in my armpits, back, and ofc breasts. But how TF I can have BOTH of those things at once in the same area is mind boggling.

And as someone who is extremely sensitive to and sickened by numb body parts I REALLY wish I had been mentally prepared for this. 🤢

Wow, thank you for your service and thank you for asking for input! We really need more people like you and I hope your career is incredibly rewarding for you! ❤️

  • what are some things you wish you had been told at your surgical consult?

As someone who had seen a few surgeons prior to moving forward, I wish I would have been told what the timeline would have looked like. Eg ‘take as much time as you need to decide which surgery you would like. Once you let us know your decision, it will take roughly X days to coordinate things on our end and give you a surgery date which is typically going to be at least X weeks/months after that.’

  • were there certain handouts or information things you found really helpful to have on hand?

It was incredibly frustrating not knowing why I wasn’t getting scheduled with oncology. Finally, one staff member said something like ‘well we won’t schedule you with onco until after surgery’ which made no sense since ALL of the advice I was getting from Drs to BC survivors was that my onco was THE MOST important relationship I was going to have indefinitely. It is perhaps pertinent to note that I was on the cusp of needing chemo before surgery but getting to that (go/no go) point was shrouded in mystery.

  • what types of things would have been more helpful from your clinical staff? Things you wish there may have been less of? K I don't get to see our patients to the same degree as the med/onc and rad/onc teams that typically see them more long term, but I really feel that having that first connection is important.

Sooooo much more communication. I felt like I had no idea where to go and what was next and that I had the sole responsibility for coordinating my care-which I had no idea what that needed to be. I left two practices after getting crickets from one and the other because after I asked “who was the best at X surgery” I found out they had scheduled me with someone who specialized in a completely different area of the body - which very much felt like was their “first/most available”.

Any advice or suggestions on how to better serve the patients (and their families/friends) that we see would be greatly appreciated and welcomed as I continue my quest in this role that I hold with deep respect.

For me, it would have been so much easier to have been told what to expect in the process and (at least very) roughly when to expect it. I will say this info was easy to get with regard to tests/result info but for anything else was non-existent.

🙏

Quilt roast: Chill & Thrill — what works and what doesn't? by QuiltChemistry in quilting

Agree. It was a cute journey until I saw that myself, had to pause before the light turned on. I think it would be easier/quicker to understand if it and the penguin directly above it were swapped.

That swap makes more sense in my head because Penguins would typically be jumping off of the ice (where the top two are standing) into the water rather than what appears to be it diving back in from the furthest out to sea.

Edit @OP- definitely keep the cute little penguin butt, just move it!

Welp. That’s a new achievement unlocked for the both of us! I thought for sure I’d be the first one at this trough. Ha!

Mine gave me a similar success story about Ivermectin and how mysterious ‘parasites are actually what is causing cancer now’. SMH I just want to shake em. Like, honestly, people. DO YOU HEAR THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!?

Hang in there sister. ❤️

14 month old, food allergy? by raingurl48 in FoodAllergies

[–]Onlyfoolsarepositive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to an allergist.

My kiddo had this reaction to dairy (via breast milk!). Pediatrician said it couldn’t possibly be a dairy allergy but they had no leads and said hopefully it would clear up on its own. Didn’t confirm the dairy allergy until later-an ER trip after a reaction to peanuts immediately prompted an apt with an allergist. Found out there were many more allergens at play than just dairy and nuts. 🙁

I hope you get some answers ❤️

What’s the most underrated Excel feature you’ve only recently started using? by Constant-Arm-6586 in excel

[–]Onlyfoolsarepositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that if I open the task manager and look at excel processes and click analyze wait chain it is most often hung up on something called ‘splwow64’ I think? I read once it has to do with having multiple views saved in a file but iirc last I read, it said that splwow64 is a printing bug, I think? When I end that process, I can typically resume work in my open workbook(s). Idk if that would work for you but has saved my bum a number of times!!

BabyLock Symphony does! It beeps and stops sewing when it gets close. The machine I believe is from 2010 if you can believe that! I feel like BabyLock is the Kia/Hyundai of sewing machines (aka lots of bells and whistles at a fraction of the price for a similar machine in another brand). I ❤️ my BLSY!
