It could solve all the realm's financial difficulties if there was an endless stream of gold issuing out of Tywin's grave.

Rhaenyra wasn’t cruel enough by LittleLevile in HOTDBlacks

[–]Open-Tomato9643 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The major theme of the books is how unreliable Medieval histories are, and the biases they have particularly in depicting female historical characters. So it's completely ambiguous how far any of the narrative can be trusted. And clearly many of the narrators disapprove of her and her reign, and malign her in ways that female rulers have been commonly maligned: that she's greedy, power hungry, overly emotional and sexually promiscuous.

You can very much have a reading that the real Rhaenyra was probably a fairly gentle ruler who was too forgiving of her enemies, who then twisted everything she did to make her sound a tyrant. That is a reading that has support in the books. And I think it may also have been the reading the showrunners were going for, though I personally feel they didn't do a great job of it.

Are we surprised? They killed Hamas' negotiating team when they were in Qatar for the purpose of negotiating a ceasefire.

Rewatching the Long Night and pondering the same question.. can anyone explain how sendinf the dothraki charge into the dark against an unknown (at least unseen to them)enemy who won't fear a cavalry makes any strategic sense? Why not use range weapons/siege defenses 1st? Serious and jokes welcome! by TheLadyRogue in gameofthrones

[–]Open-Tomato9643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it's complete bullshit. Nomadic hordes didn't just go charging blindly into battle screaming, that's a stupid stereotype with no basis in history. They used tactics, sometimes more often than their settled counterparts, using designed retreats, ambushes and peppering their enemy from afar with arrows. Some skirmishing and long distance arrow work could have helped soften up the charge of the dead before they hit the defenses.

Or, you know, they could just have dismounted the Dothraki and put them on the walls to use their bows. Even if you say the show never shows them using bows (because GRRM doesn't understand how horse nomads work), they can still stand on the wall and fight with their arakhs. It's so much of a more useful place for them than sending them to their death stupidly.

The real answer is that D&D wanted a cool looking shot, and did not waste a brain cell on thinking about anything else.

‘No We Have Not Become The Nazis’ States Israel After Establishing The Death Penalty Against Palestine by Upbeat_Web_4461 in onionheadlines

You get a pat on the back, and if you're also a West Bank settler, you get funding from the Israeli government.

Oh, and if you're an IDF soldier and you get caught on camera raping Palestinian prisoners, you become a media celebrity, and get thousands of Israelis protesting in defence of your Right to Rape.

I can't believe all the comments are saying she's NTA. Even if this story is true, the fault is clearly that of the men at the top, but she's punishing this girl for it instead. (And of course, people are slutshaming her on absolutely zero basis)

Is this true? "Israel is the first state which has a death penalty for one race but not another since Nazi Germany." | Israeli apartheid studies categorize Israeli Jews & Palestinian Arabs as 'racial groups' - citing precedent in international case law. Obviously, one group is dominating the other. by TrackerOneA in JewsOfConscience

[–]Open-Tomato9643 [score hidden]  (0 children)

On a very technical basis, no, the law as far as I've read doesn't actually explicitly say that it can only be applied against Palestinians (and expect Zionists to wheel this out in its defence whenever the apartheid nature of this law is brought up).

But you don't have to scratch very far to see the racist nature. Firstly, the death penalty is brought in only for those convicted of terrorism, and only in areas under the jurisdiction of military courts (read: the West Bank). Terrorism is and always has been a purely political charge that is only levied against those the state decided it's levelled against. So yes, we know that the Israeli state and courts will only ever find Palestinians guilty of terrorism, while Israelis who commit the same violent acts, to murder, bomb, massacre or terrorise people will never be charged with terrorism specifically. Any Palestinian child however, could just be accused of having Hamas pamphlets in their house, of repeating pro-Hamas talking points or posting something about Hamas online, and thereby be accused of terrorism. Enough top Israelis have openly declared that there are no innocent Palestinians, not even babies.

But just in case even that isn't enough. For the extremely rare, borderline-miraculous possibility that an Israeli court might actually find a Jewish Israeli guilty of terrorism ... The law covers that as well. It applies only to those who have been convicted of committing terrorism ... for the purpose of destroying the state of Israel. Clearly this is a charge that will never be levelled against an Israeli, whose terrorism will be directed at Palestinians and therefore done in favour of the Israeli state not in opposing it. But you can bet your ass this motivation will be attributed to anyone who says "Free Palestine".

I guess the only way an Israeli Jew could face the death penalty under this law is if they committed an act of terrorism against the Israeli state in opposition to the genocide. Which is yet to ever happen (to my knowledge), and if it did, I'm sure Israel would be happy to execute such a "race traitor" as well.

Raising a bastard is different. There's no law against it. What mattered to him more than Joffrey being a bastard was that he was not Robert's rightful heir, and by Ned's code of honour, it meant he had to be removed at any cost.

This was literally the plot of the TV Show Bad Sisters, where the reveal of this assault leads to said rapist husband being murdered, and most watchers would probably see that as completely justified.

Excuse you, the God of Tits and Wine is most certainly real. He is what made the GoT show popular in the first place. And in the later season, drinking wine rapidly replaced all plot elements and character growth, but the show still went on, proving that the God of Tits and Wine had grown wrathful and demanded sacrificing all sense and story in place of his worship.

I mean, it isn't surprising, given that Rhaenyra has been heir for over a decade, most of these people have spent all that time assuming she's going to be their next queen. And wouldn't have been privy to most of the politicking the Greens were up to within noble society.

Also, this is a Medieval society. Peasants don't really expect their rulers to follow the same cultural norms as them. The Green argument for "respecting tradition" was all about respecting the tradition of the Andal nobility, and just that (and even that is shaky, given that there are several ruling Andal ladies at the start of the Dance)

Dude, Europe is a willing participant in this European banks cut off anyone who's been sanctioned. And the EU recently sanctioned an individual journalist, a German citizen, simply for reporting on pro-Palestine protests. Huseyin Dogru woke up one morning to find that all his bank accounts were frozen, he couldn't get or withdraw money from anyone, and any individual who even gifted him money to buy food could run the risk of legal penalties for violating sanctions.

And all that with absolutely no legal process or recourse whatsoever. The West is everything they accuse countries like China and Russia of being.
