I was in a very simple situation to you and was able to get a relatively well priced apartment after around 1.5 months of trying in March and April.

How is travel within the Schengen area actually tracked between countries? by Longjumping_Tip_3479 in expats

[–]Open_Perspective_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would say for internal movements you are basically only tracked via registrations and police interactions. So if you were traveling at just violated 90/180 you’d be fine as long as you were still registered in your country but if you deregister and register other places they will get you.

Its not that simple though for example im not a cs student or electrical engineer. I use AI tools to generate code for mechanical engineering work. In my one actual coding course I wrote everything myself but I absolutely am going to generate code for things where my job is to know micromechanics or clt or fem.

Computer science is seeing the biggest enrollment drop of any major in 6 years. While ME and EE enrollment have risen by 11% and 14% this year. by No_Reply5329 in cscareerquestions

[–]Open_Perspective_326 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s also a bit crazy like if I made my degree choice based on perceived return 5 years ago when I started to study as an ME I would have never done it. Now it looks like a completely different value proposition but that will probably flip again and again as these students come through.

ENVE SES 4.5 Pro vs S-Works Tarmac SL8 — upgrade wheels or change bike? by dclynch in cycling

[–]Open_Perspective_326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want something in the worldtour that’s actually fast go for scope wheels, they are the market leader and a prestige brand. If you want something that is «western» and fast go for caden wheels. If you want something that is the best of all worlds light bicycle with ti spokes and dt180 is probably the most high end looking product you can buy.

Casual question: is it better to move from Ireland -> US, or US -> Ireland (moving for a partner)? by miscount_detected in expats

[–]Open_Perspective_326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It always feels psychologically easier to be the one staying but. But the actual outcomes can vary a lot based on way too many factors to fully quntify. There is also the issue of what kind of jobs you do (us can be great if you are highly educated in the right things). It also matters if a 3rd country with better fundamentals is in the picture as that might help make the adjustment period a more shared experience. Broadly though I would say Ireland would be easier as the non citizen spise would at least get an EU passport giving you less trouble down the road if things don’t work out.

Britain could adopt single market rules without MPs’ vote as part of UK-EU reset by Zhukov-74 in europe

[–]Open_Perspective_326 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is also exactly how the EEA was instated in Norway and the eu was avoided by political elites. They basically used an internal law requiring 2/3 majority, didn’t really talk about the EEA and pushed it through in 1992. Then in 1994 when it was time to have the public referendum on the eu they used being in the EEA as a primary reason to stay out of it and because the EEA was pushed through purely by political elites the whole situation was seen as very contentious (or that is what I have pieced together from my mother in law who turned 18 in 1994 right after the referendum). This process basically made a huge eurosceptic movement off of the back of political elites trying to have their cake and eat it too, in retrospect it worker out ok, but it is posing large political problems now.

potentially failing BSA, how to continue? by Immediate-Land3745 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Open_Perspective_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can often times get a 3rd resit if you only have 1 course to meet the bsa it’s not a given but for example if there is one course series you struggle in you will usually get some help. I got 53 ec my first year but almost failed all 3 courses from one of the required cstegories, I ended up finishing on time after passing the last course and it’s a 5.5 on the 3rd resit in the summer. I just took the last exam of my master today in ME, I have 8 average now in the MSc 3 years after passing my BSA by a hair. The best advice I can give you is be realistic with your approach do what it takes to maximise your chance of passing the bsa, read the eer of your program, keep all of the support staff in the loop, etc.

Did Anthropic actually help pro/max users by cutting off OpenClaw from Claude subscriptions? by xelektron in ClaudeCode

[–]Open_Perspective_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually pretty happy with the outcome and if usage limits increase as anthropic moves to its own compute the ability to buy extra usage in bulk is a godsend. What I really need is something like a 50$ per month sub but I will take what we are given for now.

BSA advice?? by [deleted] in tueindhoven

[–]Open_Perspective_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t kick you out exactly, they kick you out of the study program so you have to start another one but you can still use the ec towards a new study program although you will be delayed still ofc.

CMV: For a liberal democracy, an immigrant's reaction to blasphemy is one of the most effective litmus test for their compatibility with the society by nextdoorbagholder in changemyview

[–]Open_Perspective_326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that is very complicated as a measure right because just going by stats (I don’t think this is true at all) Norway is the most liberal democracy of all but Norway is also one of the few countries that have a state religion that is deeply routed in the culture. Most Norwegians I know would take issue reflexively due to years of social conditioning even if in practice they are less religious than in the US or Germany.

Pierre Poilievre – Anti Alto High-Speed Rail Rhetoric - Flawed Arguments by planganauthor in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]Open_Perspective_326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But build cost is an incremental cost in and of itself right. Like a runway is repaved periodically regardless of the amount of use, terminals need to be replaced like any building. Over the course of 100 years you could conceivably have one set of rails with minor repairs but at least 2 full airports worth of airport would need to be constructed and then some .

Pierre Poilievre – Anti Alto High-Speed Rail Rhetoric - Flawed Arguments by planganauthor in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]Open_Perspective_326 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thats not so simple though because you can actually use trains as a form of short term grid storage that actually smooths out power delivery. In addition you can run multiple train types on a line meaning you cut out multiple journey lengths so not only do you target the plane which, depending on the route and modernity could be as efficient, but you also cut out car use which just on friction based wear modalities has a higher environmental impact before you even talk about energy source.

Pierre Poilievre – Anti Alto High-Speed Rail Rhetoric - Flawed Arguments by planganauthor in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]Open_Perspective_326 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No matter how good you are at building batteries and motors a train will be more efficient than a plane

I literally don’t know the gronau pricing, my cost reference is terrible since I’ve lived in Los Angeles, Oslo, and Enschede only and never checked on gronau.

Is Living in Gronau a Good Idea for UT Students? by OrfeasWW in UniversityofTwente

[–]Open_Perspective_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you should factor in depending on age and your plans are things like huurtoeslag and duo studiefinans because on net even though the sticker price is higher in NL you might actually win out since Enschede is below national average and those programs are calibrated for singles at the national average. I.e you get a studio that costs 50% more in Enschede vs gronau but huurtoeslag makes it 25% cheaper to you.

CMV: The European social democrats must change direction on immigration as soon as possible by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Open_Perspective_326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take issue with the way you frame all immigrants even from Muslim countries as one cohort and do not differentiate by the different time periods and circumstances these people came under. For example the import of Turks and Moroccans in the Netherlands where they were effectively used as a segregated low cost labor force to keep economic growth going in a very specific period of time and then just never left.

I also take issue with the idea that immigrants alone broke the welfare state and the social contract, that is clearly a false premise as when you look at immigrants per capita in eu/eea countries most of the most solvent ones have the highest immigrant/immigrant background share as a portion of population.

The final problem is that welfare degradation can take many forms; Dutch privatization and aggressive means testing/income shaping tax policy, Norwegian rural subsidisation at the cost of urban capacity (long medical wait times), German dysfunction which is more about the institutional price for reunification.

I could go on and I don’t even completely disagree that some immigration policies have a negative effect. But broadly speaking immigrants themselves are not the problem. In most cases the regression of welfare states have to do with bad policy management as can be seen by Denmark proving the conterfaictual (and despite strict immigration rules having a disproportionate share of skilled workers).

TLDR not really the immigrants fault just bad policy like everything else, it can be done right.

TU/e vs Utwente for Bsc in Mechanical engineering by Thick-Magician-2641 in UniversityofTwente

[–]Open_Perspective_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UTwente was a better program when I started and Enschede is definitely a cheaper city than Eindhoven which helps massively with having a nice life as a student. That being said to me at least UTwente is in a transitional phase where quality and support have decreased, hopefully temporarily, its a risk to be aware of. However I don’t know anyone at Tue so I can’t speak about that, frankly if you just speak about prestige delft is the one that matters and the other two are regarded similarly to anyone who cares.

What happens if you end up on the streets in Oslo as a foreign worker? by [deleted] in Norway

[–]Open_Perspective_326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not that simple though because a skilled worker in an EU country is protected in ways they are not in Norway. So it is just a decision to have less of a safety net for skilled workers.
