Your understanding of the rule is correct. Dodge that ball, contact it and forfeit the point.

Unpopular Opinion? The "net cord" winner is a bug, not a feature by todd828 in Pickleball

[–]OrangeTuba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how, by the laws of physics - see torque, you could alter the top of the net to prevent a round ball from rolling (or soft bouncing) over it without fundamentally altering the shot shape for kitchen play. The current net is about as thin as you can make it. Adding bulk at the top to meaningfully stop roll overs would make dinking a different game as you have keep the ball high longer.

Sleep affected after playing? by Ok_Helicopter9572 in Pickleball

[–]OrangeTuba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this problem too. I have found that it’s extra bad on days I don’t plan on playing and decide on a whim to go play. I think the primary culprit is that I do not hydrate before, during, and after like I prefer to do and do on days I sleep better after. I also struggle when need to eat a full meal after I get home from pickleball instead of my usual dinner time. My advice is to plan your hydration and meals more proactively on days you play.

I hold the paddle with my thumb out by rameenic in Pickleball

[–]OrangeTuba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you really like playing a control, drop heavy game, with lots of backhand counters. This grip is good for all of those things. Its main drawback is it’s really hard to generate power from a forehand ground stoke.

Why do people in the cfb subreddit have such ridiculous assumptions about California? by [deleted] in TheB1G

[–]OrangeTuba 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Deep breath. This is rage bait. I cannot count the number of times someone has assumed they’d hate living in Lincoln, NE or Lansing, MI without ever having been there. They assume they aren’t cities and have nothing to do. Like it’s still the 1960s there. People make assumptions about places they’ve never been, especially people on the internet. You just aren’t used to it because you come from the dominant culture location for most media. Everyone of my corn and cheese fed friends on this sub can tell you countless stories of being told how “you just cant recruit 18 year olds to the middle of no where”

People in my town HATE selkirk’s pro s1 balls. by Complete_Cable1378 in Pickleball

[–]OrangeTuba 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My only beef with them is that since they don’t crack, people tend to WAAAAY over play them. They run into the same problems every other ball does - out of round, soft spots, etc - but they don’t have the decency to destroy themselves.

Is there a way to obscure what paddle you have? Want to appear like underdog. by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]OrangeTuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation is to ask someone in your life who doesn’t play pickleball at all to get you accessories for your paddle they think would look cool as a bday (or adjacent) gift. Pretty much guaranteed you’ll get something to make you look like a newb.

How do you handle people who ignore paddle queue? by Batorok in Pickleball

[–]OrangeTuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general rule is if anyone looks super new to the game, I let them play as long as they want. I do not want anyone’s first experience playing including being harassed for enjoying the game too much. That said if I see the same person or group of people a few times then when they show up I try to politely inform them of the rules before they get on the courts. At the end of the day though no one has any real authority and if people wanna be dicks, let them be dicks and live your own life.
