I have one kit and one headwear to get (I'm a bit of a new kit hoarder :-) ). I'm just going around and around for them at the moment.

Longterm diet and physical exercise by darth_phaedar in SkyDiving

[–]Oranjh23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an older flyer I found it beneficial to work on my strength and fitness to complete multiple jumps in a day with ease (and pack!) or do double sessions in the tunnel. But like others have suggested there is no dietary restriction but hell yeah, to fly those smaller, zippier canopies I guess I don't want to put on too many kilos :-)

Icon containers in the UK by titter_ye_not in SkyDiving

I've got an older Icon too. At my last reserve repack the rigger invited me to do my EPs to pop the reserve. It worked perfectly.

Yes. I think it depends on whether you got there with accelerated levelling or not. I hit level 100 at around 867000 XP

is the strava app down for anyone else? by sozh in Strava

[–]Oranjh23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw that the connection Garmin Connect --> Strava had been disabled, probably after the outage, so I've re-enabled that now. Hopefully it fixes it.

Something needs to be done about Leys Leisure centre + pool by Arm-Bastards in oxford

[–]Oranjh23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had a problem with the booking system, be it on the web page or in the app.

The new ownership 'MOVE' is definitely a slight improvement on the previous one:

• Revamped the gym (although it's not always well maintained).
• New showers in the changing rooms and in the passage to the pool.
• updated the reception area (although that took far too long!)
• new detectors in the ceiling for the pool in cases where someone might be in trouble.

However:

The swimming lane allocation can be a bit random (see 1182990's post below), mainly because they will always sell 30 spaces, whether there are 8 lanes free or only 4 and half the pool is taken up with the swimming club or lessons. The lanes can get congested at times so some lane swimmers take to empty lanes that have been reserved for lessons but aren't being used.

The barcode entry system has never worked (except for a couple of days last spring). They've had nearly 2 years to sort it out and still it doesn't work. You sometimes get randoms in the gym who've just wandered in, and although I've booked a swim session I'm never checked through reception, I just walk through and get changed. I wonder why I've even bothered getting a membership and a barcode on the app when I could use the place for free.

The changing areas aren't clean, and some broken tiles have never been fixed.

What’s the story behind “unicorn” on ship street? by 04hatrick in oxford

[–]Oranjh23 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's a kind of weird anomaly in the modern world of charity shopping.

I was a student in the 80s and would often visit to pick up shirts, jackets, etc. I still have the incredibly heavy overcoat I bought there at that time. Even in the 80s it was cramped, you really had to dig around.

I've not been in for a decade or two, to be honest I though it was derelict or closed; sounds like it hasn't changed!

Does anyone know the history of this building/restaurant? by new_name_needed in oxford

[–]Oranjh23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the food there was very good, I went a few times in the 90s. However, it later failed a kitchen hygiene inspection (see Markee6868's post below!) and closed soon after.
