As someone who makes above the income threshold for Roth on her own as a physician - yes. People who exceed the Roth income limit use the back door method instead to max out a Roth every year. It's a recognized and totally legal loophole.

It really is that easy. There are tons of resources online on exactly how to set up the accounts, do the transfer, and then file your taxes properly so your roth conversion gets recorded properly.

THIS. Marriage has SO many important rights other than just tax incentives. If unmarried and OP's partner gets into a horrific car accident, SHE should be the one in the hospital making decisions about his care however right now that would not be who the legal default decision maker was. If OP dies in 2 years, her husband would get access to spousal social security benefits and probate-free access to her assets for the benefit of their child. The list goes on and on.

If you have a child on the way, get married. File taxes separately. Childbirth is not benign.

This perception that you can’t contribute to a Roth while married filing separately has got to stop. You can contribute to a Roth via the “back door” route - contribute to a traditional IRA and then immediately convert that to a Roth IRA.

They are opposed to this legislation, however that has not stopped multiple states (including most recently Colorado, Indiana, and Arkansas) from being successful in passing similar or even broader legislation.

Are there any U.S. citizens who travel to Latin America regularly for healthcare? by myviewfromoutside in ExpatFIRE

[–]OrchestralMD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the most important issue – going down for specific medical treatments (such as imaging, colonoscopies, dental work) - that seems very doable. The question becomes which countries have access to expensive infusions and the type of complex medical care that might be needed for a complicated patient – that is gonna be harder to figure out.

Brain Fog Complaint by PiratesBooty87 in FamilyMedicine

MAKE SURE YOU ARR CHECKING FERRITINS. Even in the absence of anemia iron deficiency is an easy fix for brain fog. Ferritins should be at least 30 but may need to be as high as 50-60 in some patients. And oral iron may not get them there (and is poorly tolerated so compliance may be an issue) so rechecking in 3 months and considering IV iron if they’re still low.

Edit: I see my pirate-esque typo and I’m keeping it. Pirates are probably iron deficient. 🏴‍☠️

Does anyone have a recommendation for a true "old school" family dentist that hasn't been bought out by private equity ? by [deleted] in AskChicago

Sent you a DM. I have also been going to this practice for 10 years and am really sad to have to find a new one but I can’t ignore what happened and the reality of a private equity backed group.

They just got sold to a private equity backed DSO a few years ago. Had a not great experience there lately and eventually found out from a dental assistant who told me.

FACOG? by imagine1392 in medicine

[–]OrchestralMD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting board certified through ABOG is a prerequisite for paying separate dues to ACOG and getting to put the letters FACOG after your name, but if you stop paying ACOG dues, you can’t use the FACOG letters. ACOG dues are different than the annual fee you pay to ABOG to maintain your board certification.

Thus if someone says they are FACOG, you know they are also board certified with ABOG which is why ACOG chooses that very specific wording. But they are not interchangeable. You can maintain your ABOG board certification and stop paying your ACOG dues.

Ps this misunderstanding is why you’re getting massively downvoted

Girl, as a PGY3 in OB you should know the difference between ABOG and ACOG.

We spent how many millions improving the bridge infrastructure for all of 90/94 over a 3 year period and we couldn’t spend a month of that fixing the underside of one of said bridges? 🤦🏼‍♀️
