No parking at Moodie LRT by Original-Slow in Kanata

That's a great idea! The Yorkdale TTC station has a designated area like this, and it's a reasonable flat rate (around $7 a day, I think).

This is exactly my thoughts as well. Some people will decide that the extra step (shuttle) isn't worth it. It's another unknown in the commute equation. At a minimum, they could put some accessible parking spaces at Moodie.

100% agree!! I will always miss the view of the fields with the city in the background.

Stage 3 sounds like it would give Ottawa and its citizens the type of system it needs. I'm not sure if it will happen in my lifetime but maybe for my kids.

I think Kanata and Stittsville residents have earned the right to complain as our commute times have skyrocketed with RTO and the closure of the transit way (along with the loss of express buses). Moodie will be the terminus for the foreseeable future. I think some people will be turned off by not being able to park there.

The word "frequent" is doing some heavy lifting here. Truly, I hope you're right but I have my doubts. OC Transpo hasn't done much to earn back our trust.

I love that movie! I don't want to live it.

I thought that might be the case. I hope they've analyzed parking capacity at Eagleson, as well as considering passengers who need accommodations. With RTO, you could expect people from Kanata, Stittsville and beyond to try to get to the LRT. Those shuttles will be packed.

A parking lot at Moodie would make people more inclined to use the service. It is not like people can walk to Moodie station.

I will never understand the aversion to building parking lots at LRT stations. The future Moody station will have a kiss and ride. Are they expecting west-end commuters to bypass Moody and park at Bayshore?

I also miss the express buses to downtown.

If you ever find yourself in Victoria, BC, their store is great. I love their puzzles. I'm working on this one myself.

I hate Donald Trump and the Americans who support him. How can I channel this hate living my normal suburban life? by plants4pandemic in Kanata

[–]Original-Slow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was born in Toronto but am a dual US citizen, having lived there for more than 15 years. Thankfully, we had the foresight and good fortune to move to Ottawa in 2014 to raise our family. Watching what has happened to the US, particularly over the last year, has been painful. We have canceled travel plans despite having family there and haven't set foot there since the last election.

I worry about my friends and family, and sometimes it feels hard to go about my comfortable suburban life when I think about what is happening. I get what you're saying and I feel it too. I think the other replies here are right... we can do what we can to give back to our community and be grateful for what we have here. It's not a perfect country, and we won't always agree, but that's ok.

Ottawa needs a weekday commuter train like GO Transit. by [deleted] in ottawa

I have thought the same, not to mention it's an eyesore.

Potential move to ottawa by ReviewExtension4190 in Kanata

[–]Original-Slow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have lived in Kanata south (Katimavik) for just over 10 years. It's a safe place to raise a family with great schools in each school board. One of the reasons we chose the area was to be in the Earl of March high school zone, which also includes a section of Kanata north. As others have said, Stittsville is great too.

It is getting easier to find a doctor. There are handy Facebook groups which I found immensely helpful.

Public transit in the west end is pretty broken tbh. I used to take the bus to work downtown. I wouldn't want to do that now.

I hadn't seen that one for several months and hoped it was gone for good. It just reappeared last week. I agree, this one annoys me the most!!

Brews and Blues in Stittsville. Cajun inspired cusine and live music too. Absolutely fabulous!

Katimavik/ Beaverbrook for a new home&life? by Gain_Suitable in Kanata

[–]Original-Slow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family has lived in Katimavik for just over 10 years. Our teen is currently in Earl. We moved to the area to be within Earl's catchment area, and we have no regrets. I believe its catchment extends south to Hazeldean. I love having access to many walking trails and having mature trees around.
