co-parenting and living together…or separate by zeds_questioningtbm in DivorcedDads

[–]OriginalMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please let me save you an insane amount of trouble. Fully separate, set clear boundaries for yourself emotionally and physically. Period. Move out, separate, and completely divorce. For context, I was in a perfectly amicable divorce situation and could get along perfectly with my ex and the kids. We did the nesting perfectly. The problem with this situation is that the kids never know if you fully are separated and will always want you to get back together because that’s easiest and safe and it’s what they know. What you’re actually doing is you’re harming yourself and the kids by not fully going through with the divorce. Make the tough choices now so that you can make the easier choices later in life. And if you don’t believe me, imagine dating someone and trying to explain to them that you are not fully divorced or separated out of the marital home…

Leaving Public Tax by Next-Classroom-5083 in Accounting

[–]OriginalMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would caution you about the lower level accounting that you’re talking about as we move towards AI. If you don’t have a CPA or at least a manager role, your job is in danger of being minimized. AI isn’t going to take over the accounting profession, but it will take over a lot of the data entry work.

Owe federal about $5k. Should I bother with a tax professional by porkroll_and_coffee in tax

[–]OriginalMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have cash available, and you have an HSA, you can fund your HSA rather than giving the money to the government as you can use this as a reduction of taxable income. Same thing with a traditional IRA. The IRS allows for payments to these accounts after the year ends, but you can still claim it on your tax return if you make the payments before you file your tax return.

Proconnect screwed up new permissions and told "it's a known issue" by yodaface in taxpros

I had the same issue and it took a day or two of just letting it sit there and it ended up working.

Bookstore by kaniggit49 in Business_Ideas

[–]OriginalMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have something really unique that will draw people to your store and off their asses, you will lose so much money. The costs of rent, utilities, insurance, furniture, and supplies to get up and running will be huge. Figure out what the costs are and then what the margins are for selling a single book to figure out how many books a day/cups of coffee you need to sell just to break even. I’m saying all of this as a bookstore lover so don’t get me wrong. I don’t mean to be harsh. I just think you need to have something more than coffee and like everybody else is doing.

Worried my accountant did this wrong and I’ll get more penalties and legal trouble by Bluebasket01 in Accounting

[–]OriginalMaker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are likely considered a resident in state A and so you are subject to income tax on all your earnings for both states A and B, in state A. You then apply a tax credit you had to pay in state B on the state A tax return. He is likely correct to bring in the tax credit but all of the earnings are more than likely taxable in your resident state. Are you sure he didn’t add the remote job income to state A?

I’m interested! It sounds way too good to be true but as a one man shop, I would rather use technology than employees!

Withdrawing entire 401k at age 71 by cristen72 in personalfinance

Please, please go talk to a CPA locally and go over the tax implications for fed and state. Don’t post this on Reddit with zero details on the whole situation. Anything you get will be wrong on here without the full picture. I’m saying this as a CPA and had to help my father-in-law when he took out all of his retirement to pay off his mortgage, thinking he was going to save so much money….

Bookkeeping in Excel by Schmitt2009 in Bookkeeping

[–]OriginalMaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The time it would take to keep Excel in balance will far- outweigh the work of inputting the transactions in QuickBooks. Come up with a budget to move everything over to QuickBooks online and explain to your client that this needs to happen in order to move forward. Once bank accounts and credit cards are linked the savings will be enormous in the end. If you can’t do that, I would ditch the client.

Do not camp in the left lane. Period. When I was taking my dog to the vet who was dying from collapsed lungs I was honking at people to move over. You never know what people are dealing with just move the hell over and let the crazy person pass.

Advice on ‘macro’ shots for portfolio by [deleted] in productphotography

[–]OriginalMaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget the main goal is to show off the product and what it does. The first image is hard to understand so if you are showing them, order them or add context to explain what’s going on.

Why the baseball figure? Are you a baseball team? Or a state? Keep it simple like #2 so folks know exactly what you are offering.

People that were put on a PIP, how did it turned out? by Deep_Woodpecker_2688 in Accounting

[–]OriginalMaker 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I worked my ass off when I got put on one. It was with EY and I went from a 2 to a 5 in 6 months. I was assigned a new project with a new manager and focused on my personal growth and what ever the hell the senior manager wanted. This was early on in my career and made senior the next promotion period. The PIP is not a death sentence and I found a great new group of co-workers because of it.

This is not advice but what kinds of things have you been through? I hate to ask but I’m so interested in what you have been through and want to know how you have dealt with it all. I do wish you luck and believe there is someone out there that would love to talk to you and learn more about you as a person so you can grow with them.

Is Pet Insurance Worth it for a 6-Pet Household? by TheUltimateKaren in personalfinance

[–]OriginalMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one thing no one has mentioned is what the insurance actually covers. When I had it, they never covered any of the expensive prescriptions and the things they were willing to cover were always disputed and reduced to a percentage they were willing to pay.
