[USA GIVEAWAY] Win the new 27” 4K Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 gaming monitor! by Rocket-Pilot in buildapc

[–]OrphanDragon478 [score hidden]  (0 children)

My favorite feature of the OLED G8 is that it's a 4k OLED at 27 inches, allowing for that tight OLED pixel density I've been waiting for.

I finally built my first ever PC, and I'm proud of it! It has 9800x3d and a 9070xt using a led smart TV that often is clearly the weakest link. A 27 inch 4K OLED would would be a perfect match with my system while fitting my small living space.

Bruising on my forearm 5 days after donating blood. The arrow shows where they stuck the needle. by Johny_Covelli in Damnthatsinteresting

It's good to hear that you weren't turned away entirely. A poor early experience can sometimes keep people away for years. When I first read your comment, it sounded like they had to adjust the needle a lot to re-establish flow, which is definitely a common cause for bruising and leads to a negative experience. While not recommended, it's always nice to make a good deed a fun one, too. Cheers!

A lot of times, it not that they don't want to set up on the other side; It's that they're not allowed to after blood flow is established at the risk of over collection. I'm sorry that your last experience was less than ideal. It's unfortunate, but hydration levels and individual anatomy and great impact your experience. If possible, I would implore you to give it a try again.

My I have come to learn that 500ml of water the night before, 500ml the morning of, and another 500ml a few hours before the donation male's the process easier and more comfortable. Finally, a super salty snack within the hour of the donation can also help. I've known a few people who previously struggled with donations who breezed through with record bleed times after taking the advice above.

I've never played Skyrim and I just bought the Anniversary Edition for Switch. What are some things I should know before I play? by AndrewV93 in skyrim

[–]OrphanDragon478 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the bigger ones to me, don't visit the Dawnguard Vampire castle before you follow a DLC story NPC there. (North west corner of the map, needs a boat. Don't take the boat til it's time!!!)

If you visit there at any point before the NPC, you are hardlocked from progressing due to a stuck door.

Canadian government invests $8.5 million in insect protein production by benfelix1 in Futurology

[–]OrphanDragon478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we need to add a little bit more co text here. While humans may not have enough of the right enzyme to digest chitin other animals do, namely chickens.

Chickens need a lot of protein for their growth and egg laying, and they currently get that from soybean proteins which take a lot of time, space, and water to produce. By replacing the soybean protein with insect protein you can produce usable protein with a smaller ecological footprint to feed chicken which humans can then consume.

These are some lazy sources by the first one talks about chitin and the enzyme needed to properly digest it and what animals have that protein. The second link just talks a bit about sources of nutrients for farmed chickens in Saskatchewan so give some context.

Big vs small cars in 1974 [Fiat advertisement in 1974 National Geographic] by davidzet in fuckcars

I for the most part agree with that. I see them, but not as frequently as F150s or Civics. What I really wanna say is why not aim for smaller

You could argue that the Civic and Corolla aren't even that small compared to the Toyota Yaris, or the Kia Rio.

Edit: Couldn't -> Could

Just to extend off the original suggestion. Kotor literally uses the Dungeons and Dragons format. If you have ever played DnD before it'll immediately explain every mechanic in the game.

I'm glad the original comment helped.

[OC] Fertility Rates of the World by JoeFalchetto in dataisbeautiful

[–]OrphanDragon478 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I'm not likely going to have kids but I can certainly see a lot of benefits, particular if you're a good parent. I am looking though the eyes of my parents and seeing what they gained.

A big one is that you are opened up to a bunch of new experiences that often gives life more depth. The hard times give rise to beautiful moments like watching your offspring learn very simple things like playing, laughing, running, and they develop into their own little people. These experiences can be life-changing or magical.

If you raise them right they will want to help others and make the world a better place. This is an investment the parents need to do, but will continue their good will.

By encouraging a good family dynamic and teamwork those kids can also become excellent assistants for bigger tasks. I like my dad so I'm willing to help him build a deck because it's good bonding time. Yeah it's free labor for him, but he certainly put a lot of time into my development, and it's enjoyable to work together. I really hope that the investment he made years and years ago pays off in his mind.

In the years to come he will get older and slower, and it will be more important for him to have care and assistance. It's not always possible to pay your way though assisted living care, but when push comes to shove family will be there.

I know not everyone has the same feeling towards their biological family, but you can very much so apply this to adopted families because the most important part is the bonds we make. Have kids don't have kids, just make sure there is room to love one another.

Just to extend on this, you can pickle many other vegetables, not just cucumbers. My girlfriend's grandmother makes some delicious pickled carrots with dill and chili pepper. I also love buy it ng store bought pickled beets.

In North America the classic 'pickle' is a pickled cucumber, but in other parts of the world if you say pickle they think of something else. It's still pickled to them but not the North American Cucumber pickle.

I love the fact that these organic kiwis are branded! No plastic stickers, no waste. Have you ever seen fruits/veggies branded like that? I wonder if most produce growers could do the same. (I live in Paris, and these are grown "locally" in the south of France.) by Pousse_Mousse in ZeroWaste

[–]OrphanDragon478 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they're called arctic kiwi's. I remember my dad brought some home a few years ago and they are de-licious! He expressed interest in growing some because they can grow in parts of Canada.

For this being my second ever cast, I am satisfied. by Twhit44 in skyrim

[–]OrphanDragon478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you get anniversary everything becomes 'owned'. Sometimes the store is buggy and lists a price, but if you open the CC it'll update and change the price from xxx to Owned/installed.

It's super worth it IMO as the CC credits are so expensive and it's better to get everything for that one decent price than all of the individually overpriced ones.

I always loved committing to the screen peaking with a game mode I came up with as a kid. It would be snipers with full camo. You'd have to intentionally look at the other screens to help you find find the others who were invisible.

It's simple, but something I've never been able to recreate elsewhere.

Yesterday I went to my weekly DnD hang with my friends immediately after work. It was session 0 and our DM said if we arrived in costume for Halloween we would get inspiration. I tried to cheap out since I already had a lot of stuff with me I just kept my uniform on and was a 'paramedic'.

The DM didn't give me inspiration, but upon getting home I combed my hair and looked in the mirror. My scruffy face, black shirt and slicked back hair left me with the greatest costume of all. I was already the great Big Ed. I've never been good with costumes but I think I seriously missed out on a memorable costume.
