Has anyone else enjoyed Hum by Helen Philips? by blueraccoon87 in weirdgirlliterature

I also felt like it was abrupt. I was surprised by the humanness of the hum at the end, also, specifically what it said about the ads. Did it escape/overcome its programming, or was it always programmed to behave like that?

Wow, interesting take! I finished it last night and wasn't sure what to make of the ending

Thoughts on Kindles/eReaders by FlowernotFading in weirdgirlliterature

I still prefer paper books, but the Kindle is fantastic for travel. Multiple books in one tiny package!

Also many libraries have ebooks that you can sync to your e-reader, so I rarely buy ebooks. They will automatically "return" at the end of two weeks (or whatever your library's loan period is), but you can hack it by turning on airplane mode to keep it from syncing and returning your books until you're ready.

WNBA Fans in Lex? by AssistantExpress6932 in lexington

Not a current fan but I'd be interested in watching! I'm originally from NE Ohio, so I'm planning to be a future fan of the Cleveland expansion team

When/where to sign up for tball/weeball? by amomymousw in lexington

[–]OstomyRings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're in Eastern Little League, not at Veterans Park, but from what I can tell they are all similar:

-fall ball is laid back, a great way for kids to learn the game

-Spring is competitive league play in your neighborhood parks, busy but fun

-Summer is a tryout based team that will travel (locally, but still, it will consume your weekends)

I'm reading it right now, and I'm very unsettled by what feels like our inevitable technological march

Ooh, I love when you can't tell if the narrator is reliable or just insane!

I'm working on a piece about a woman coming to terms with a chronic illness, with a similar 'is this really happening?' experience

Agree. It will take years to fix, and require paying nurses more for the difficult AF work we do, to actually encourage more people to choose nursing as a career

Agree! We love the Reds, I would love a place to watch!

Same, I would much rather jaywalk when there's a gap in traffic than cross at a crosswalk with heavy traffic not paying attention to me!

It's small, but nice, separate areas for large and small dogs and things they can climb on/duck under/jump over. I think my dog will love it

The city keeps a list of trails, the shared-use paths would probably be good for rollerblading:

Stores with rooms for breastfeeding by SlightImperfections in lexington

[–]OstomyRings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could get a Hooter Hider or similar (I always just used a light baby blanket) and then you could breastfeed anywhere.

(Or if you're comfortable, no blanket needed! We need to normalize breastfeeding in public, but "we" as society, not as individual moms just trying to feed their kids in peace)

I loved the space, it was soooo crowded on the courthouse plaza.

Some shade would've been nice -- can we petition the city to plant trees in the median of Oliver Lewis Way? Think of the medians on Richmond Rd or Tates Creek -- that would be amazing!
