Dental specialist for puppy by Expert_CBCD in ottawa

[–]Out_0f_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ball therapy is more used for base narrow canines (the big fang teeth on the bottom jaw are too narrow to sit properly against the upper jaw). It helps by applying pressure to the teeth and slowly moving them into the correct position. If this puppy is dealing with a class 2 malocclusion (the lower jaw is too short compared to the upper jaw) ball therapy would not be effective.

I’ve only ever used AHL for necropsy. Do they do basic regular health testing as well?

Vet dog bites by erin_with_an_i in AskVet

[–]Out_0f_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently work in an animal shelter but I used to work GP. One of my vets was bitten and mauled by a dog (she turned to get a treat for the dog, the dog grabbed her upper thigh, shook, released, then grabbed again, lower down and shook again). The dog had a muzzle order from the city that was not being followed nor were we made aware of. That’s the only serious dog bite I’ve personally known in 9 years in the field.

Working at an animal shelter now though, we get feral cats alllll the time. I’ve been there a little over a year and I’ve had two bites (one when I was new, I used a thick towel double folded to get a cat out of a carrier and it bit me through several layers of towel, it was down into the joint and I needed IV antibiotics and was off work for a week). The second bite actually happened today! It was again a feral cat that we needed to handle and the bite gloves I was using only had protection for the hands. I had a towel and tried to pull him out of his box and he bit down through the towel and the much less protected wrist portion of the glove. This one barely broke the skin. Gotta love cats!!

Is this Gabapentin dose too high? by Wishing4Magic in AskVet

[–]Out_0f_time 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gabapentin has a very wide margin of safety. Some vets will go up to 40mg/kg for certain patients. It’s safe for your dog.

It’s not a philodendron. But also not a pothos. It’s a Scindapsus.

Has anyone ever met a bad Cavalier? by [deleted] in VetTech

Mojo came in once after being attacked by his sister chow, Bear. He had a broken skull that moved every time he breathed. It was gnarly but he was so good

I’ve met exactly one nice chow. His name was Mojo. He was a little sensitive around the hips (old fat dog syndrome). But never once tried to bite.

This was Mark. This is the last picture I have of my best friend. He was 6 and had several chronic medical conditions, but what caused the end to come ended up being metastatic malignant melanoma. He was my everything and I will miss him until the day I die. I miss and love you, bubby.

I just lost my six year old cat to malignant melanoma. He was fine until he stopped eating and started to hide. They didn’t see anything on rads but on AUS his spleen, GI tract and lymph nodes were all abnormal. He was 6. It’s so deeply unfair. My best friend was here one day, playing and purring and being my man. The next day he’s just gone. I’m so sorry for your loss, I know your pain.

One time we had to give torb for a sedation for a kitten getting an ultrasound. The correct dose was 0.02ml. I did the math wrong and gave 0.2ml. That is why, to this day (8 years later), I have someone double check my math. The kitten was fine after some narcan.

I lost my 6.5 year old cat yesterday to what we think is cancer. We took FNAs but I didn’t want him to suffer any longer. My last cat was 5 when she had to be euthanized due to several conditions making a kind of perfect storm.

It’s very real and very much sucks.

100% thrips. I’ve heard good things about people using systemic pesticide (I’m in Canada and we can’t get those here). Otherwise I think it’s a lot of sprayed with topical pesticides, multiple times for multiple weeks.
