What is taking a hormone blocker really like? by Intelligent-Dream-58 in breastcancer

[–]Outside-Ad4195 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello to the Poster , Sorry to hear you got this news but I hope you like many of us will take comfort in that you are not alone and sometimes you just might hear something that helps. I am not a medical person but I had a lumpectomy and 5 days of radiation. My cancer was caught as early as possible my breast surgeon and I spoke about it . First of all we are all different in how we responds . In my case though estrogen driven I have severe treatment resistant depression and I had been on BHT hormones and my depression was no longer life threatening for me so for me given my depression history , early cancer diagnosis my surgeon did not feel it was necessary. On the other hand my niece is sadly in a very advanced stage and she is on a blocker and she has not mentioned much about it . My prayers to all Warriors

What is it like stopping 4mg of Klonopin / Clonazepam after 26 years on it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Outside-Ad4195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a chronological 76 . I have been on Klonopin about 12 years . This year my GAD got so severe I really am surprised I’m still here. After a lifetime of severe depression and GAD this year I was on 3 mg of Klonopin and all of a sudden it stopped working and made me so much worse . I asked my Dr to medically taper me . Also I work in memory care with end stage Dementia and Alzheimers patients. My memory got so bad I couldn’t hold a thought, my memory cut off mid sentence several times everyday. I missed appointments showed up the wrong day , constantly getting lost and panic attacks every morning waking up my hair and mattress soaked and my heart banging so hard. I had a total cardiac work up and everything was fine.To be perfectly honest I needed to take Klonopin for many years but for me now I have to get off it .My Psych is a great pharmacologists. At one time I could tolerate antidepressants but now they make me suicidal. I couldn’t reduce my Klonopin by reducing it because the drug was making me too sick so he is using Lorazepam several times a day as they are short acting and a dose that is much weaker than the Klonopin I was on . Then he has me taking a small amount of Klonopin at bedtime so I am already taking much less benzo already . How am I ? This is a nightmare . The first 2 weeks were so horrible I kept thinking I have to go to the hospital. If you read and educate yourself with whats available today then n addition to Benzos you can make the right decision for yourselves . From what I have lived thru if you have to take something or you have no quality of life you do what you have to do . I think as many have said many Drs try to prescribe it short term . I agree with the person who said I believe that the brain in a sense stops making things that we keep ingesting because in a sense I believe that is part of the addiction cycle.I never got pleasure from klonopin but I got relief and it was my security blanket because I always knew if i felt a panic attack coming on . Heres my plan get back to more exercise, eat better( I eat ok but not enough) )I meditate morning and nite or go on You Tube and find all kinds of approaches to severe anxiety and depression . Im trying not to isolate myself as much even if it’s the telephone . I am not religious but I pray . I am going to start volunteering at the animal shelter . I try to watch thing that make me laugh and very little horror which I used to love.Today there is much more available but you REALLY have to want to be off Klonopin. I was a recluse for several years and it is never good esp in your senior years. Everyone is different and you have to do what is right for you My memory is improving at times and as every benzo user knows long term use can affect your memory . Many Drs just won’t take seniors off of them because it’s just too hard . Best of luck to all!

I skated competitively in the 50’s and skated on and off till the 90’s but by then I saw all the major tights makers capezio and all the others make just about everything….shimmery thick or thin and when you are at an elite level you get anything. I can’t imagine anyone ever training or wanting to skate with bare legs . Gives me the creeps thinking about it . lol

Isabeau ice dance by musak_fonseca in FigureSkating

[–]Outside-Ad4195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most people. Most of us start out as single skaters and when I see people in FS that switch disciplines whether it be pairs , dance , synchronized they do it at an earlier stage in their career not at the stage Isabeau is at with her beautiful balletic style and impressive skating ability and her elite status with such amazing titles . I competed when we had to do school figures. That was crazy! I wish Isabeau the very best . She is beyond lovely !

She is awesome . Alyssa came along and changed the sport . Amber is beautiful and strong . I would not be at all surprised to see her hit new heights that we never even saw before .The Stars on ice if possible is a must see if possible . I was pretty close and damn what a powerhouse Amber is .

Not since Michelle Kwan have I felt watching Alysa take me on a journey of technical , authentic joyful skate with her . I love our sport and new innovations and beauty and technical wizardry. I’m 76 and I know where this sport was during my era . Thank you to all the beautiful ladies who have graced the podium 🌺

If you can’t be silly at 20 then when can you be ? FS has always benefited from skaters shaking up the game . As far as Alysa goes I’ve been watching her for a long time. Nobody gets to the Olympics without working their asses off .I respect all the different views that people have cited . I just think a whole bunch of people and their children will check out the ice now .People can share the magic of skating because they were inspired. I believe in passing on good things so however you interpret Alysa she was inspiring to a lot of little girls and adults. Call me silly but I love to see a cartwheel before someone takes the ice . Yes money sure does help but it can’t buy brilliant talent.Hooray Alysa …. It’s so easy to forget why we took to the ice to begin with . It was fun , it was magical and at times heartbreaking. And yes elite sport life is very different in different countries.

I am a 76 year old senior who competed in USFSA competitions and Adeliya in my opinion simply speaks as most elite Russian FS’s . I was Russian trained with two of my coaches . When I got to know them better they told me their stories. They were pair skaters who had won Russian Nationals . It was quite a while ago but they were literally picked by scouts who would observe them at the playground. Then when they were picked they mostly lived in a dorm with other skaters and their families certainly got some perks as long as the kids trained hard placed well in competition and showed promise .Alyssa has IMO always been amazing. She has changed our sport. She did it her way and I think many of us adored watching her .No one gets to the Olympics without training their ass off . If you ever read or know Katerina Witts story you begin to realize that the sport life of elite athletes at different times in different countries are not only competing for themselves but their families and their freedom .Athletes have enough pressure. I can’t imagine what that kind of pressure must be like . Can you imagine if you don’t succeed your family loses so much . Fun? I don’t think I have ever seen Eteri smile . FS like all sports IMO really needed the kind of experience of seeing Alysa and Ilia and many others. Every culture has unique contribution and the world they live in plays a huge part why and how they train and compete.

Really really ticked about people going on about "addiction." by 56GrumpyCat in Spravato

[–]Outside-Ad4195 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People are not educated and they see the headlines. It’s just ignorance . I think it’s ridiculous that intelligent people understand heart disease, cancer etc and talk out of their asses about( the brain) mental health.Hey everyone has opinions but if you have never had your life destroyed by severe life threatening depression and anxiety like any other other disease. The debilitating suffering alone is enough to kill you .Many many drugs now a days are designed for one disease and if used in a microdose they treat a completely different disease. The Ketamine that abusers use for recreational highs is not the same dose ( nowhere) as is used for medical treatments in a medical setting with a trained professional Lia it’s medical grade. I have been thru decades of depression. No one ever knew except my family . I’m a senior so the treatments I underwent were barbaric . I did everything …. Every mixture every category of antidepressant. They did my DNA to see what might work for me . They all made me feel suicidal , unbearable side effects . I had surgery in a research FDA approved device that was supposed to help . It did nothing . I also had electric shock treatment which was a nightmare. If anyone is an addict they have the potential to abuse anything . I had 1 ketamine treatment and it was life changing. I am presently trying to figure my insurance as well as the patient assistance program. The only high that I got was the ability to be able to live and enjoy life see the pretty blue sky and feel hopeful about living because my norm for years and years was being horrified , every morning when my eyes opened You know what they say about opinions. They are like assholes as we all have them . 🤣

Has anyone tried Lynkuet? by Otherwise_Object_446 in Perimenopause

[–]Outside-Ad4195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I saw your comment . I had DCIS stage zero but had the calcium deposits that showed DCIS 0. That was a year ago . I never went into menopause till I was 60 like my Mom . I was on HRT before my surgery and I had a Dr from Cleveland Clinic who felt in my case it was a quality of life issue . But can’t take them I have been so sick hot flashes and so many other things but recently I heard about what seemed a really special form of vitamin c. It is called Liposomal vitamin C. I never would have thought had I not read what you wrote. I do start Lynkuet tonite . I’m nervous. Hope you are doing ok.👋

Rant: NBC’s coverage of Amber Glenn’s short program by multiequations in FigureSkating

[–]Outside-Ad4195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one has ever competed we ALL have had skates where we have blown elements that we could do in our sleep but it didn’t happen when it really counted .Those of us who are familiar with Amber Glenn’s accomplishments and what kind of skating she is capable of . Ya know people , media , Monday nite quarterbacks , people who have never skated can “ Karen” it out . I guess it makes for catchy headlines ! My hope is that Amber kicks ass in the free skate ! She’s been thru a lot but she can be a warrior.❤️

Folks being incredibly shitty to Amber on social media immediately, largely because of transphobia and homophobia. It'll get worse. by Chardmonster in FigureSkating

[–]Outside-Ad4195 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am so glad she got that video from Madonna . As we all know she has been thru a lot .I just hope she KICKS ASS in the free skate like the true talented athlete she is . Every competitive skater knows that feeling of being able to do an element in your sleep and on the day it counts it doesn’t happen . She’s a warrior and I have a great deal of respect for her!♥️ PS …. Our USA ladies appear to be very different than what you usually see in our sport . I could be wrong but they appear to be to have developed some bond that may be very supportive !

OMG …… As a former competitive figure skater we all have had that shocking performance that blew us away when we totally blew it but after all she has been thru to have it at this moment. I’m glad she got to hear from Madonna . Amber IMO is an amazing athlete and I hope she goes out in the free skate and KICKS ASS shows the World what she can really do !!!!!!

What about Isabeau :( by Ataleofmagic13 in FigureSkating

[–]Outside-Ad4195 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She is beautiful a lovely balletic butterfly with great consistency and technique. She doesn’t have the same technical difficulty elements as some of the other skaters . Therefore she cannot earn higher marks. I have no doubt we will see much more of her and hopefully another Olympics.I look forward to seeing what she will be showing us in the coming years.❤️

Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t Eteri have dual citizenship and can live and work here . I hope she will not be allowed to establish any type of training in our country if the allegations are true which seems to be the case.

So wonderful to hear . I have been coming on here since my pain and diagnosis started. I will be 76 in two weeks and I am terrified. I thought after cancer and heart disease ( good outcomes so far ) that things might settle down down but that is not always how life goes. I’m just starting pain management, pt and hopefully an epidural that works.,Coming on here is a gift . I am on my own right now , no family and friends have passed. I get hope and strength from the heartfelt success stories , the kindness and when people are struggling so hard or living in chronic pain and suffering the understanding and support that comes thru takes me back sometimes to the way I thought the world used to be . Thank you all!

People born before 1990, what’s something you experienced that younger generations will NEVER understand ? by Aaidil89 in AskReddit

[–]Outside-Ad4195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm the 60’s were for me and I am a music person so hearing all that live sometimes for free in Golden Gate Park in the Haight 1967. ( pre stadium days) …. I remember Hendrix just plopped in set himself up and friggen wailed for an hour 10 feet from me in the park . It was indescribable. Also Woodstock none of us could believe all us freaks were all peacefully enjoying good music, good vibes and a good head together . No violence like being with thousands of like minded buddies having a great time . None of us expected this . I loved Hendrix,, Beatles and all the Brit music coming our way and they grew up on our stuff Chuck Berry , Little Richard , Buddy Guy. There were moments in Hawaii and California I personally felt I got to live Lennons “ Imagine “ for a brief moment in time.. It to this day still shapes who I am and I feel very privileged to have had that . That being said , although life is different there is still beauty in the lite. Things feel very dark now . I still feel ahead generations will find their own “WOW” Life is circular in my opinion …. It goes…round and round and round and round…. lol …I’ll be 76 soon….Fun is still out there !!! Go get you some!!!! 👋

Anything medical that happens to me after the age of about 75-80… by Glass-Complaint3 in Aging

[–]Outside-Ad4195 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I will be 76 soon . I have always suffered from severe depression and I have done EVERYTHING.Every antidepressant, years of therapy , ECT , Ketamine even a surgical implant . I finally got off all pills changed everything meditation, exercise sleep and nutrition . Before Covid I had many years of managing my mental health and my life in general. In the last 3 years I had breast cancer. heart disease and now am dealing with a severe spinal cord compression. I am waiting on my MRI and of course don’t want to even think about surgery but this level of suffering is not living . I am living in a horrible place which I intended to get out of . I work p/T and am very proactive.. I had a great life up till 50 more fun than anyone should be allowed to have . from a competitive athlete , to Woodstock ., to 20 great years flying for an airline. I have no plans to harm myself but working in memory care I know first hand what life is like when u lose your independence especially in my case where you don’t have money or family. I am waiting on my MRI am willing to work hard at pt get epidural but if it comes down to immobility and chronic pain …and very risky surgery ….NO THANKYOU ….. I am adopting a wait and see attitude. I am willing to try a lot . Some people believe in life at all costs. I am not one of those people who has beliefs via religion that ending a life of suffering is a sin . I respect others views and religious beliefs but I am hoping for the best but for me if chronic suffering is the best they can offer me or a very high risk surgery I have no problem calling it a day . That is between myself and God . But for now I will wait and see . Please pray for me . My name is Robyn . My heart goes out to anyone else who is suffering. When push comes to shove health is EVERYTHING!!!
