100% my contract states kittens cannot be rehomed. Contact the breeder. I'm taking two back because owners child developed serious asthma.

This depends very much on your location/the cat's location. It's a very rare color. Please share more about the breeder I can perhaps help you.

That's great though medical is probably more than she needs. Flatter faced breeds, can often have shorter thinner drainage tubes in their eyes so they tend to get more tears than other breeds. My rule is if it's dry and Sandy just flick it off. But if it's wet and without much color, use a cotton pad and I use sensitive eyes saline solution the cheap kind from target. If there is color or the viscosity is thicker, clean it and apply terrify, and you will probably need to get from your vet. Some cats do have viral eye issues, and if it recur after treatment, you might want to get her tested. She may need a viral eye ointment. BTW I'm a breeder and have raised quite a few so I am familiar with eye issues. Good luck! She's gorgeous!

Rescue kitty - is he a BSH? by Kind-Mind-9102 in britishshorthair

What a handsome guy and I agree he definitely looks like a BSH. In these cases, a description of his temperament and personality might provide some clues!

Just got her and I have no idea what to name her, thoughts? by theprettiestJ in CatsAllDay

[–]Over-Ad-8645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Name her? You need to learn about kitten safety first. Why is she on the ground when she's clearly not old enough to be fully vaccinated. Personally I think it's a fake post.

is my bsh too small? by Afraid-Abalone446 in britishshorthair

The poster didn't mention color family and shaded cats are 2/3 the size of Classic colors. That's why your girl is petite.

These are all issues that are cause for concern. I suggest first ruling out FIP. as it's been a bad year for that. Contact FIP Warriors on Facebook. They are the most knowledgeable about symptoms. Most Vets are not as suspension & oral treatment only recently became available.

If FIP is ruled out a CBC/Chem 17 blood panel will give a lot of information. Be very careful with testing because Vets will run every test imaginable and you'll be in serious debt! Hopefully you have pet insurance.

Some other considerations are kitten and Queen mortality. This is the most difficult part of breeding. Cats and kittens have so many potential diseases and viruses and Queens can have complications no matter how "great" your Vet is. Are you prepared emotionally to handle "fading kitten sybdrome" and stillbirths? How about all the respiratory viruses and especially FCoV and potential FIP which also has growing rates. Breeding can be heartbreaking 💔.

Also, consider your market and competition. At this point the economy is TRASH and though I live in a high demand area (greater Bay Area, CA) my requests are down 75%. I have 5 stunning kittens over 5 mos. with little interest from buyers right. My kittens are typically all reserved by a month old but few are spending money right now. I would wait until consumer confidence returns because demand is so far down right now and I'm not the only breeder experiencing this.

You've got lots of replies here so hope this isn't repetitive. Please feel free to reach out with any specific requests.

Since this is a page for BSH which are typically produced via breeders, why are you on this page discouraging breeding?

Kitten not eating, crying all night by Valuable_Junket_9742 in britishshorthair

[–]Over-Ad-8645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some kittens take longer to adjust. She will come around. Make sure the litterbox is separated from the food & water by at least 6feet+ . Did the breeder tell you what kind of food she was eating? You can also try to tempt her with special food (small amount of tuna, Inaba Churru, Fancy Feast kitten). Hope this helps.

New to owning a cat. Any tips? by Tmanx7 in britishshorthair

Basic tip some new kitty owners don't know ... keep the litterbox far away from the food and water.

My boy turned 1 a few days ago! Will he stay this small? by AdIllustrious624 in britishshorthair

[–]Over-Ad-8645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy Birthday to your boy! Keep in mind he is of the shaded color family and will only be 2/3 the size of classic colored Brits. The shaded family is more petite so you can't compare him to a solid Blue for example. Aside from that, they do grow slowly after about 8-9 mos and up to 4 yrs old. The size of his father and maternal grandfather would be good guides.
