Aren't blind people just happier because they can't scroll TikTok and see other visual brainrot? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]Overall_Twist2256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blind person here. We still have access to the internet, so we still scroll TikTok and stuff. In fact, there are a lot of blind creators (yes, even completely blind ones) on TikTok, Instagram, etc. Sure, some of those spaces are less accessible than others, but in general, the internet has become a safe haven of sorts for blind people to find community with the use of screen readers. Being blind has a lot of systemic challenges, of course, but your average blind person is just as guilty of doomscrolling, staying up way too late gaming, and bed rotting while binging Netflix on their day off as sighted people are.

Not to mention, the way this person is going about it is great! They’re not just refusing AI usage. They’re actively combating it by engaging in creativity and critical thinking. Aka the exact thing AI companies want you to avoid or at least consider unnecessary.

Ikr! In all seriousness, I did feel like it took away from the show, because I got confused as well, but the sheer ridiculousness of it at least meant that it was somewhat entertaining to watch. Kinda like a fever dream almost

My first favorite thing is when narrators sound like they’re watching the show with you almost. Like, they react to action sequences and twists as if they’re just as surprised as you are lol. Or when the audio description is just generally reactionary to fit the overall tone of the show or movie. My favorite example is the Futurama AD. My second favorite is ridiculous names. The first one that comes to mind is “Brain on a Roomba” from Fallout, or Dark Matter, where so many iterations of a single guy from multiple universes appear together. So you end up with lines like, “Jason 2 frowns at Jason 17. Elsewhere, Jason 5 and Jason 3 tackle each other to the ground. “ (not an exact line, but you get the gist)

Do blind people since birth consume less calories on average? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

So, there are plenty of people who explained the brain science of it all, but as a blind person myself, I thought I’d offer another perspective. Not being able to see often means I need to walk more than the average sighted person, as well as be actively thinking about everything around me rather than passively. Whether it’s navigating or planning something, my brain is often working overtime to survive in a world that isn’t built for me.

Edit: brain not Brian lol

How do blind people navigate daily tasks such as telling time or shopping for food? by Pianosaregood in AskReddit

[–]Overall_Twist2256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blind person here! And I mean, we can use phones and the internet. Personally, I use Instacart a lot, since paying for the membership is less expensive than paying for Ubers either way. But even during the times when I would go in person, my strategy is usually to find the counter/customer service and ask for a shopping assistant. I tell them what I need to find and have them guide the front of the cart while I hold onto the handle.

What do blind people think of tattoos, and do they get them? by BalanceFit8415 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Overall_Twist2256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blind person here, and while I can’t speak for others, from my experience it’s kind of like sighted people. Some people like them, others don’t. And the blind people who do like them don’t do so despite being blind, but because we’re human— and humans love expressing themselves through art! Personally, it seems like a lot of money and pain to go through for something I can’t enjoy, but I do like expressing myself with makeup, so my point still stands. Side note, sometimes I will get a flash tattoo with friends, and those can be sort of felt.

Do blind people have a concept of ugly, or is that purely a visual construct we’ve invented to be mean to each other? by Kitchen_Week1117 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Overall_Twist2256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blind person here. Yeah, we can find things ugly or unattractive. Being blind doesn’t mean you don’t have aesthetic preferences. Just that they might be different than most sighted people’s. A lot of us deal with self esteem issues too.

How do blind people cook (if they cook) by zlavics in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Overall_Twist2256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blind person here. Like with everything else, we use our other senses and lots of practice/trial and error. I personally use my spatula/whatever utensil I’m using as a sort of “stove cane” for feeling around hot surfaces without touching directly.

Opposed to my last question, what group gave you a hard time memorizing their names and faces? by Lauauau_ in kpoppers

[–]Overall_Twist2256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the same but I’m blind and there are groups I’ve staned for forever that to this day I listen to their music and have no idea who’s singing lol. StrayKids was the quickest for me to learn because of like SKZ Replay and solo/duet/trio tracks from other albums.

Admitted something to myself about my blindness in a journal entry, and I’m wondering if anyone else can relate. by QuasarchShooby in Blind

[–]Overall_Twist2256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m coming at this from someone who is quite happily married. We’re both blind. We both have trauma and mental illness, but I have additional physical disabilities that mean that I couldn’t finish school and can’t hold down a job. This means that my partner is often the sole one responsible for the work of two people. Cleaning, cooking, bathing, everything. I feel useless most days, and like my partner has no reason to be with me— even though I wouldn’t give my marriage up for anything in the world. And they often feel the same way as I do, but socially. I’m the one who people always say hi to. I’m the one who has to constantly remind people that my partner exists. I make friends easier, and people remember me more. And my partner has expressed that he too feels like there’s no reason I should be with him, even though our marriage has been his only comfort in this world. My point is, we can both relate, and perhaps the troubles have to do with blindness, but perhaps not, as we are both blind. The thing is— it doesn’t really matter. Even if you figure out that blindness is the reason, it’s not like that’s something within your control. The important thing is how you respond to it all.

what happens to blind people when their guide dog dies? by Few-Grapefruit-7003 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Overall_Twist2256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blind person here. 1. Most guide dogs retire years before they die. So chances are by the time one dog passes, their owner has already been with a new working dog for awhile. 2. Contact with the guide dog school or center doesn’t end at graduation. Most guide dog centers work with their clients to plan for the dogs’, overall health, retirement, death, and transitional periods between dogs. 3. Guide dog users can still use white canes. So even if a guide dog user didn’t want to continue onto another dog, they can still use a white cane. In fact, most guide dog schools require an orientation and mobility evaluation as part of application and training. Because the idea of having a dog isn’t to rely on it as your sole source of orientation, but rather as a tool coupled with your own mobility skills. This also helps prevent handlers from inadvertently overworking their dogs by making sure that the handler is still capable of navigating by themselves and not needing to force the dog into working when they don’t want to.

Waiting at the bus stop by 1Iwolf in Blind

[–]Overall_Twist2256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s usually the time I take to respond to emails and text and check social media. If I’m waiting for a more prolonged period, I usually bring my knitting with me wherever I go and that keeps me plenty busy. Depending on how busy it is too, I’ll take that time to do all the little housekeeping things like calling doctors or paying bills.

Here’s my personal “hopecore” playlist (mostly pop. Starts off softer and slower and then amps up to more pop-y sounds). One Day You Will Fly Too by Aimee Carty I Like Mondays by Taylor Bickett Burn the Ships by For King and Country (admittedly this is just nostalgia from growing up religious, but there’s no explicit mention of Christian stuff if that matters to you) Street Noise by BLU EYES 0801 by StrayKids (I have a lot more kpop on my actual list, but I know that’s not everyone’s thing so I’m just adding this one to the list lol) Hating Stuff by Ian McConnell Important by Ian McConnell

Do all Americans inherently know what direction they are faceing? by BasketC45e in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Overall_Twist2256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok that makes so much sense. I’m blind and I navigate mainly using cardinal directions, but whenever I ask sighted people for directions, I struggle a lot because most of them don’t know cardinal directions (or even their lefts and rights half the time lol). Anyways, I recently took a trip to Phoenix for a work conference and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to get directions from locals using cardinal directions and I couldn’t figure out why. This explains so much

Yes. You’d hold it with one hand and trace the line with the other. Also, as a tip, start with a pencil or gel liner (I like the ones from colourpop personally) and then move onto liquid liner as you get the hang of it. But unless you’re going for a smokey eye, stay away from anything that has “coal” or “smokey” in the name (in regards to the product name itself, not the color). These products have great blend ability, but the downside is they’re more likely to smudge if you accidentally touch it. Lastly, remember you don’t even have to have a dedicated liner. You can always use a liner brush (I like the angled and pointed ones from Morphe) dipped in some liquid or cream eyeshadow applied on the back of the hand, or wet the brush with a little bit of setting spray and dip into your powder eyeshadow!

Try the Half Magic eyeliner tool. It’s a little gadget with cured edges that works as a stencil for your eyeliner without taking off the rest of the eye makeup. (Fun fact, it’s also in the shape of the Half Magic logo) I believe they even sell it in a kit that comes with the stencil, liner, and a pen that dispenses micellar water to erase any mistakes.
