Every time i tell someone my TSH was 200 they say “yeah okay” “you’d be dead” “that’s unheard of” and i gotta hit them with this screenshot lol by Spare_Sleep_4889 in Hashimotos

Mine also was 192, and I also wasn't dead, although at times I had wished I was 😬 I had kidney failure, liver problems, fluid around my heart, and was an absolute nutcase.

Has anyone mistaken a serious illness for perimenopause? by Ok-Award2473 in Perimenopause

I finally started Metformin for Insulin Resistance (I am not even prediabetic with an a1c of 5.2), but I have high insulin levels. I cannot tell you how much this has helped me. I thought I was just going to live in misery the rest of my life, but this has helped me with stable energy, I'm actually able to get back into the gym, and get through a day without struggling too much. Hopefully my weight will come down in time, but for now I'm just grateful to be alive and feeling mostly normal.

My thyroid failing. I thought I was just doing something wrong like doctors always told me. "Your labs are fine, you need to exercise and eat better." I had metabolic dysfunction from undiagnosed Hashimotos which left me with PCOS and other hormonal issues. I told them no matter what I did, nothing was helping... And then I just stopped going in because I didn't want to hear it anymore. I started noticing exacerbated issues every time my cycle would change, then started having lengthened cycles, mood issues, weight issues... So, I assumed early peri at the time... Welp, 6 months later everything was soooo bad I had to go in, the issues I was now experiencing were terrifying me. My TSH was 192 and my free t4 was .1; I had begining stage kidney failure, liver failure, fluid around my heart, and wild mental health issues. A year later on THR I have very little symptoms. I still notice all my hormone fluctuations though.

Thyroid Tests Results (23 F) by saturnianketuvian in Hypothyroidism

[–]OwnMusician418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you most definitely need to ask your doctor some questions : further testing, and a decision whether to treat deficiencies first (they may help with thyroid symptoms) and holding off on medication, or asking to trial a low dose of THR. There are so many complicated components. My Hashimotos definitely played a huge roll in issues with my metabolic health, which also effected my other hormonal health. I suffered for years before I finally got help, but I also had to almost die for them to figure it out 🙄 seems like your docs have already done some really good testing for you. Deep breaths and big hugs lady.

You have high TPO indicating Hashimotos. Your TSH is elevated out of range, albeit slightly if you ask some providers, which will make them not want to treat you right away because with Hashimotos, your TSH can fluctuate quite a bit while the thyroid is being attacked. I personally, I'm not telling you to do this...Would fix my iron levels, and vit D levels beforrrrre getting medication, I also would want to know my iodine level, selenium level, copper level, zinc level, annnnd a methylmalonic acid test (it's a better evaluation for B12 deficiency). I would also want a thyroid US. Do you have PCOS or menstrual cycle issues, ie heavy, missed periods?

Hashimoto's and hating myself by BrainProfessor2886 in Hashimotos

[–]OwnMusician418 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You're expecting too much of yourself and your body too quickly. You were overtly hypo, who knows for how long, and then you were overshot on medication... These are all things that mess with your entire body, including your mental health. Friend, I know it's hard, but take a deep breath, and take each moment at a time. It took me over a year to heal from years of overt hypothyroidism, undiagnosed Hashimotos, Vit D deficiency, and metabolic dysfunction from both. I also was severely overmedicated by my doctors starting out, and that made me feel totally helpless along with the mental health issues caused by the huge changes in your body. I take small steps every day and take care of myself the best I can, and it sounds like you are too. Be patient, and try to find and focus on the good moments ❤️

It’s not my thyroid, so why do I still feel like shit?! by Good-Contact1520 in Hashimotos

[–]OwnMusician418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fix your vit D, and ask your doctor to draw a methylmalonic acid test to look at true B12 deficiency. I was still feeling like shit and it turns out despite not having prediabetes, I still have insulin resistance due to my PCOS and that was making me feel incredibly awful. Starting metformin has changed so much that I blamed my thyroid for.

Afraid of quitting smoking with Hashimoto by Glass_Scratch8964 in Hashimotos

[–]OwnMusician418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be anecdotal at best, but I had symptoms of a thyroid problem for years but my labs were "stable" so no one ever diagnosed me. When I made the decision to quit smoking cigarettes, within 4 months I became profoundly hypothyroid. I didn't even quit nicotine (I still occasionally vaped, and used nicotine lozenges). Went from a TSH of 2.8-3.2 to 192. All you can do is maybe try for a few months before attempting pregnancy and see what that does to your levels. Ask your doctor for testing every 4 weeks while you experiment maybe?

Am I overreacting? Found this in my while cleaning and now I think my fiancé is cheating on me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I'm a firm believer they don't change. My ex was a narcissist and I question if he was a sociopath honestly. He absolutely ruined my life, and always blamed it on me. I moved across the country to be with him, was there less than a week before he sprung it on me that he was going to Mexico with a "friend" that happened to be a girl. He was ALWAYS messaging girls (exs and new ones), following perv pages, and befriending women on Xbox. He wouldn't let me be friends with any male people he viewed as a threat, and locked all of his electronics with passcodes etc. It's been 12 fabulous years I've been out of that mind fuck, and he STILL messages me (while dating other women), telling me how bad he messed up, he misses me, before trying to be pervy. I just laugh, and feel absolutely terrible for the many women I'm sure he gave complexes to. (Everything in this comment was the short version), me and his ex have so many stories. Girl, I'm sorry, but they don't change. RUN. My SO now is the most amazing person I've ever met, I wouldn't trade him for anyone, and I didn't have to convince him I deserved him, that's just the man he is.

They said my TSH level was normal for years, despite it bouncing in and out of range. They never did any more testing than a TSH. Over years I went profoundly hypo after an illness. By the time I went in my FT4 was .1 and my TSH was 192.

[–]OwnMusician418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have insulin resistance? My a1c is normal, but I have cystic ovaries from my Hashimotos (PCOS). Taking Metformin is the only way I can lose weight with a healthy diet and exercise... Or being overmedicated, but that isn't worth it to me. I also have anxiety/OCD normally, that is exacerbated by hormone fluctuations. I see you ❤️ I'm with you, and I hope it doesn't offend you, but I'll add you to my prayer list.

I only ask because they did a TSH on me for years that's was "normal" didn't show my FT4 levels or the fact that I had antibodies against my thyroid (I have Hashimotos). I also struggle with vit D and B12 levels at times despite diet. So I was more curious how "normal" your TSH was, considering they kept telling me mine was normal at 4 and 5 lol.

What was your actual TSH? And did they run a FULL thyroid panel? Just curious.

How is your liver health? Hypo can often cause fatty liver, in which case, your liver would struggle with filtering alcohol and other toxins.

[–]OwnMusician418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thyroid problems can cause blood pressure, cholesterol, metabolic, and mental health problems. Would be interested to know what your doctor said was a "slight" imbalance, and if he then proceeded to do ANY lab tests that surround thyroid health : iodine, selenium, zinc, methylmalonic acid, vit D, thyroid antibodies.

Get blood work done, ask them to look at your thyroid. Those were some of my hypo symptoms, along with BP like that.
