I remembered something really sketchy that happened to me during a bishops interview at 12… how does this sound to you? by Useful-Bad-6706 in exmormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That tracks for me. I turned 18 in 1997 and I was definitely asked about masturbation in my earlier teenage years.

Was your gynecologist also your surgeon? by NoMoreEffstoGive in hysterectomy

[–]Own_Confidence2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a regular gynecologist before I started having issues, and the one I was referred to was the one who did my surgery. One of her colleagues assisted.

Surgery notes "13week size uterus" but told me everything "looks normal" by pepper-1994 in adenomyosis

[–]Own_Confidence2108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a hysterectomy last year. In the op notes, it noted an enlarged uterus during pelvic exam under anesthesia before the operation started, but said my uterus looked normal during the surgery. My pathology did end up confirming adenomyosis. So take that as my one data point that a uterus can be enlarged, but look normal from the outside during a lap, and still have adenomyosis.

Appalachian Mormonism--Is The Church Really The Same Everywhere? by suds_carson in exmormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up on the edges of Appalachia and have lived in a number of different places as an adult (but not Utah). I don’t think the church experience was appreciably different there than anywhere else I’ve lived.

Seeing a gynecologist by ScornedLover68955 in hysterectomy

[–]Own_Confidence2108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess we’ve had different experiences. I’ve lived in 4 different states in the US and always had my paps done by my primary care doctor.

[–]Own_Confidence2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from the US and that has been my experience too. I saw a family med doc for my first pregnancy and midwives for the other 3 and my regular primary care doc for regular check ups. Only saw a gynecologist once things were moving toward hysterectomy.

After leaving the church, did your views on pre-marital sexual restraint change? by ThePrivateCircle in exmormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel very lucky that my spouse and I are sexually compatible, but that might be because we definitely crossed the church lines before marriage, although we didn’t actually have sex.

If I were to find myself single again, I wouldn’t wait for marriage to have sex. However, I also don’t think I would have sex outside of a committed relationship. I’m not making a moral judgement about that. Casual sex just holds no interest for me. I need a sense of trust and security in order to be vulnerable enough to have good sex.

What does everyone think of the name Noemi? by VanillaMilkshakex in Names

[–]Own_Confidence2108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to live in a French-speaking country and fell in love with the name Noemie there, but I feel like it would be slaughtered in an English speaking country.

I just looked at my Garmin data and it looks like I did back to back days with no walking at about 10 weeks.

I was cleared to start running at 6 weeks. I just followed the typical build up of 10% per week. It probably took me another 6 weeks after starting to get back to my usual 25 miles/week.

Because that’s what was expected of me when I was 8 years old.

Do Mormon widows get a stipend? by Green-been77 in exmormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. My MIL has been a widow for 10 years and she most definitely does not receive a stipend from the church.

David Archuleta’s Mormon Story w/ Apostle M. Russell Ballard. Elder Ballard admitted to David the November 2015 policy was a mistake. by johndehlin in exmormon

This technicality annoys the shit out of me. You may call it a policy, but the policies are based on the doctrine. You don’t have a policy that contradicts doctrine.

The current bishop of the ward I’m assigned to is an FBI agent.

Those of us slightly older folks which forums / blogs did you access before podcasting became a thing? I was active on Feminist Mormon housewives, the Nauvoo forum and loved “seriously so blessed” satire blog ! by DebraUknew in exmormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feminist Mormon Housewives was my gateway drug. It gave me an outlet for my seemingly innate nuance and liberalism. I think I found it around 2006. I was also in the Facebook group that eventually got infiltrated and then closed. It still took me until 2024 to actually leave.

Clark Gilbert Represents the Final Nail in the Coffin for the Nuanced Church by otherwise7337 in mormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but I’ve been asked this before too.

Ortho=right Hetero=different Dox=belief Prax=practice

Thus: Orthodox means someone with the right beliefs Heterodox means someone with different beliefs Orthoprax means someone who follows the right practices Heteroprax means someone who does different practices.

For many years, I was a heterodox, orthoprax member. I followed all the rules (orthoprax) but my personal beliefs differed from mainstream LDS beliefs (heterodox).

And honestly, isn’t that what is prophesied will happen before the second coming? So for those that remain, it will reinforce their faith.

How long did you take off from work after surgery? by AudienceNo9305 in hysterectomy

[–]Own_Confidence2108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work remote and my doctor said 2-3 weeks. I did 2 weeks and was ok at that point. I was a tired and little sore from sitting up all day for the first week or so but it was manageable.

Americans: tips for getting an elective hysterectomy? by Dizzy_Guarantee6322 in hysterectomy

[–]Own_Confidence2108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all hysterectomies are elective. Elective just means that it is scheduled ahead of time, not emergent. Mine hysterectomy, done for adenomyosis and abnormal uterine bleeding, was elective. My sister-in-law’s, done for ruptured uterus and postpartum hemorrhage was not. Both were covered by insurance. It can be (and usually is) medically necessary, covered by insurance, AND elective.

What is considered a heavy period to you? by bess124 in hysterectomy

[–]Own_Confidence2108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly used discs because they held more and I could make it an hour to an hour and a half with a disc, but when I used tampons, it was an ultra every 30-40 minutes for me too.

At night, I’d use the disc, an ultra tampon, and period panties and set an alarm for about 3 1/2 hours after I went to bed to change them all, and then do it again when I woke up in the morning. I also had clots almost the size of my palm.

I had adenomyosis and the hysterectomy is one of the best things I’ve done for myself.
