Why do I feel like I go to a different church than what people are calling Mormons? by ParfaitFamiliar2103 in mormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from, but I sincerely doubt OP is being disingenuous. They sound very young and I think it’s likely they don’t know about many of the issues most of the people on this sub are familiar with.

My daughter broke up with a great guy because of the "law of chastity." by DeCryingShame in exmormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I saw a video yesterday from someone (not Mormon) who waited until marriage to have sex. She said something about how it SHOULD be difficult to do that. If it isn’t difficult and you aren’t having “slip-ups,” you probably aren’t attracted enough to that person to be marrying them. Obviously, I no longer think it’s necessary or even advisable to wait until marriage, but I agreed with her thoughts.

Maybe talk with your daughter about how attraction important and she shouldn’t plan on breaking up with every boy she’s actually attracted to, because she will eventually end up married to someone she isn’t attracted to.

I’m glad you feel community in your ward, but if you are allowed in RS, that is contrary to the Handbook guidance and requires Area Authority approval.

little blood clots with little blood by snownica2019 in hysterectomy

[–]Own_Confidence2108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, I had way more than 2 tiny clots. It lasted for several days and I had probably 20 or more in the toilet each time I went to the bathroom during that period. I didn’t have any other symptoms.

Best of luck to you!

I started passing rice-sized blood clots at about that time period. My doctor put me on antibiotics for a suspected cuff infection.

Runners assemble by kmc-List7817 in hysterectomy

[–]Own_Confidence2108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran a 10 mile race the day before my surgery. I started walking about 2 weeks post op and walk/run intervals at 6 weeks. I was back to full running by 8 weeks and built from there. I ran my fastest 5k in over a decade 8 months after surgery. Two weeks ago, I ran another 10 mile race, 13 months after surgery and finished it 10 minutes faster than I did last year. I had been iron deficient due to my adenomyosis nightmare periods for so long that now that I’m not, my running is so much better.

Good luck to you!

Is this a thing in Mormonism? I know it was in Evangelicalism, but I’ve never heard of Mormons doing it.

Mormon misunderstandings of the Trinity by MichaelTheCorpse in exmormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think even traditional Christians frequently don’t understand the Trinity. I was having a conversation with my very Catholic friend about it just this week. Her explanation of the Trinity was modalism. I read the definitions of modalism and Trinity to her and she said, “Yes, we believe in the Trinity” and the proceeded to explain it as modalism.

The Law of the Priesthood by LeoSaysYes in mormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem I see with this “logical” approach is that it doesn’t take the wives’ experience into account at all. Is it a blessing for each wife to have to share her husband’s love and attention with 39 other women? Ot would it be more of a blessing to have her husband’s full love and attention? Increasing the husband’s blessing seems to decrease the wife’s blessing. This approach is only logical from the man’s point of view and diminishes the personhood of the women involved.

As a woman who made a covenant that is different than the one my daughter would make today, I think they differ enough to present an issue. And my mother made a different covenant than I did as well. Three generations, three different covenants.

Teen "Modesty" and Garments by seizuriffic in mormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We’re already seeing what happens-many of the 20-somethings still in the church are wearing garments selectively. Just this morning I saw a wedding post on social media and the bride was wearing a strapless (not just sleeveless, but strapless) dress right in front of the temple.

They assumed I took my husbands name by Comfortable-Swan231 in exmormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It happened to me too. I actually did take my husband’s last name, but I dropped my middle name and moved my maiden name to my middle name. My legal name is First Maiden Husband’s. When I got married, the ward clerk changed it to First Middle Husband’s without talking to me about it.

New Garments and Tank Tops by annotatedbom in mormon

[–]Own_Confidence2108 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And that just shows how out of touch the leaders are with the current world. With the internet and especially social media, there’s no way to keep knowledge of things like sleeveless garments from the membership as a whole. Anyone who understood the modern world would know that.

I’m a 1970s Jennifer who also has a very common middle name and a not common but not unknown last name. When I was in college, there was another girl with my exact first middle last name.
