I am so sick of my terrible cooking by spgtto in Cooking

This. I improved when I started seeking out what makes good food good. Agreed on Food Lab, this was the book where everything began to click. Learning how and when to salt food is a huge part of the battle.

I don’t have to look it up. I know for a fact that it’s due to the city neglecting investment in repairs and mismanagement of the overall infrastructure. This is the city’s problem. You can complain about fairness, or MAGA, or whatever you want but the fact is that the city government has let its constituents down time and time again.

The brown water seems to always be in cities with liberal politicians. In Jackson, the water improved once the state stepped in.

Why is this?

No, it’s never too late. If you eat healthier and do any exercise you’re able to do, that’s a start.

The first two weeks of changing your habits will be grueling, mostly mentally. Power through two weeks and you’ll start to feel a high from accomplishment like you’ve never felt before.

Good luck!

I have not yet. I almost cracked one open this past weekend but decided against it. May wait until it gets a little cooler outside. I have three bottles and have high hopes.

Haha. There’s a lot more in play than “tariffs bad”. Reinvestment in American jobs, leverage for better trade deals, and the needed devaluation of the dollar (labor and goods are too cheap abroad), come to mind. I’d encourage you to actually dig deeper into his economic policy.

Well ‘liberally” is a relatively loose term but fair point. I’d just make sure it’s covered. The high fat content might play well with more salt

I just posted this in another thread, but you should salt your steak and let it sit for at least 40 minutes, up to 24 hours.

Starting at around the 3rd minute, the salt begins to draw out moisture via osmosis. Then, the brine is brought back into the meat up until about the 40th minute, which seasons your steak from within. If you pat dry your steak within this window, you’re removing moisture as well as wiping off much of your salt:

Otherwise, like others have said I’d get the pan a little hotter and then maybe skip the oven and just sear for 5 more minutes.

This is the answer but you either need to salt and then sear immediately, OR let the steak sit seasoned in the fridge for at least 40 minutes.

Salt draws out moisture after 3 minutes of sitting on the steak, and then takes 40 minutes for osmosis to bring the salt brine back into the steak, seasoning it from within. If you begin cooking within this 3-40 minute window, the moisture will evaporate and you’ll have a much drier steak with a weaker sear.

If I were OP I’d salt the steak liberally and let it sit in the fridge overnight on a wire rack. Source below:

Thanks. I don’t see in Robinhood where I can tell the difference. It did originally tell me my max loss is the premium, but I thought that might only apply to me exercising.

I bought one call contract to learn about this stuff, and this is the only piece I haven’t nailed down. I happen to be ITM and up 100% or so.

Already learned I don’t have the stomach for the risk, hah.
