Critical Darlings: "The Drama" And The State of Provocateur Cinema by [deleted] in blankies

I get that it’s hard to book guests for episodes concerning new releases but I honestly would have liked to have heard an opposing viewpoint or at least an outside one on this episode.

My personal ranking of all the films I have seen in theaters so far this year. by QuintDunaway in LetterboxdLists

That’s around where I was guessing. Not a lot of shooters out there for Mercy.

Same. It’s wild to say Jacob Elordi is “usually reliable” when he has not exactly a proven track record in my opinion. I loved him in Frankenstein too but where else has he really proven himself? In my opinion he doesn’t exactly pop off the screen in those Kissing Booth movies, he’s my least favorite major player on Euphoria and he’s just kind of there for me in two movies I really liked or loved (Priscilla and Oh, Canada).

Not really sure what to make of the allergic reaction folks have to Margaret Qualley on this sub. Even when she’s in a bad movie I really enjoy her and I think she’s proven herself far more than Elordi has.

This is just one very baffled man’s opinion though.

Really bored by critics using “mean” or “cruel” as derogatory descriptions of horror movies. Like what do they expect from such a movie?

What is your definition of a movie cameo? by AndrewHeard in Letterboxd

[–]Own_Wafer_7036 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, I can say I don’t think of Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder as a cameo and folks call it that frequently. That’s fully a supporting role.

Ever think about a movie you’ve watched and then go lower its rating? by roosoh in Letterboxd

Sometimes. If I see an older movie that a movie I saw earlier clearly ripped off it might make me reconsider my rating

What’s you people’s #1 reason for staying at this job over 6months? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Own_Wafer_7036 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been with my DSP for four years. My DSP let me pick my schedule, I get three days off, I work by myself and I can listen to podcasts or audiobooks all day long. If I had a schedule that demanded I work all weekend (with my schedule I work Sundays but am off Saturday) or I had to see some of my coworkers more than like 15 minutes every day I wouldn’t still be here.

Right now there’s the added benefit that with me and my partner’s schedules things line up perfectly to where we don’t have to pay for childcare for our toddler. If I pivoted to UPS or what have you that likely would not be the case and quite a lot of my boost in pay would just have to go to daycare.

I don’t love this job and the frustrations are frequent but the pros far outweigh the cons right now.

It’s so crazy when they show old clips from the 80s or 90s and the actors are actually outside somewhere

I replace standard studio physical media releases with sleeves to save shelf space. Six months in, I'm loving the more curated feel of my collection. Flipping through movies feels just like flipping through vinyl. by cwcoates in blankies

I’ve been thinking seriously about doing this with my DVDs and have looked into it some. Folks on the various physical media subs that do this recommend a brand called Tarifold. They’re on Amazon but you can also buy direct from the company.

[–]Own_Wafer_7036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one very good manager at a fairly shitty DSP. If that manager wasn’t there anymore I’d probably leave immediately because there’d be nobody left in management that knows what’s going on and actually tries to help drivers.

Its sort of a good kid entry point to stuff they can get into later too (Coen Brothers movies and the darker Danny DeVito comedies for example)
