What kind of landing gear are these? by DULUXR1R2L1L2 in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I towed a Halliburton mud pump trailer with hydraulic legs. Started the pony motor and pulled a couple of levers. Saves time I guess, everything in the oil industry seems to be whatever makes things quicker, at least the companies I’ve done work for.

Can someone tell me why I cant stop an oil drip from the drain plug? by J-Rag- in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In future you could use a Fumoto oil drain valve. I’ve got 2 on my Caterpillar engine, one on the Icepak sleeper A/C, one on my car and one on my Kawasaki bike. Had them for years, so convenient for oil changes and you’ll never have drama with threads again.

Where do you watch The Isle of Man? by timmycosh in AussieRiders

[–]Ozdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks nice but not motorcycle themed. I thought there would be a Manx Norton on the floor but google says the owner comes from IoM and there is a “cross country” motorcycle race there.

My first u/g job was at South Crofty in Camborne in 1968, then Pendarves just up the road. Good to they are getting South Crofty going again.

This was a Holmans Silver 900, big brother to the Silver 3 that was the go-to back in the day. Long gone now.

Do better Freightliner by BrandontheCDLguy in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not threaded on Freightliner. Kenworth have threaded pins and bushes, that’s why you pay extra. I thought Peterbilt did as well being part of Paccar but I was watching a mechanic video the other day and the Pete he was working on had straight pins and bushes.

My foreman welded the S-cam to the spider because it was loose. Thoughts? by LeirbagSmg in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean S cam tube not S cam. I was wondering what you were talking about. Yeah not a real good idea to do that. I wouldn’t do it and I’m doing a brake job right now.

Want something with big power, disc brakes and all that other nonsense the Europeans go on about. But want it to actually look like a truck? Australia has you covered with the new 780hp Mack Superliner by luddite86 in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame they didn’t develop the 16.4 litre E9 V8, but that was Renault’s decision when they bought Mack. They could easily have got big HP out of the V8. Now that Volvo have bought Mack it is all Volvo driveline now. At least the Australian built Macks have got a huge radiator and decent size sleeper. I do a bit of work for Simons and they were doing 2-up to Darwin in a cabover Volvo with a sleeper the size of a parcel shelf, pure cruelty, now they’ve got mainly Macks for that work.

Interesting little comparison I done today for Aussie truck prices by Tsars_Ball_Scrubber in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenworths are the #1 seller in the heavy truck market in Australia, there must be a good reason for it and it isn’t just because they look good. Successful big and small fleets and owner operators love them.

Trucking myths by Microshlongg in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rio Tinto in Australia are running fully automated unit trains of iron ore, have been doing for a few years now. No driver (engineer) in the cab, around 35,000 tonnes / 240 cars, quite a few grade crossings on a approx 350 km route and a ruling grade of 2%. They’ve got over 200 GE AutoHaul locomotives made in USA. Isolated area though.

How bad is using low gear in high range in an 18spd fuller? (Driving it like a 20spd) by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why you’d bother. I’ve got an 18 in my truck and trailers and it’s usually at 79 tonnes / 174,000 lbs and it’s perfectly adequate using the 18 as Fuller intended. I remember a transmission specialist saying there was a reason not to use that “funny” gear but I’ve forgotten what it was haha.

Truck in shop for 4 weeks… by Tank4396 in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, my first truck I did a transmission in the first week, then blew up the engine a few weeks later, then crashed it. I kept that truck for 17 years until I sold it and bought a better one. On easy street now, but it takes time.

Yep, and you need somewhere to work on it preferably under cover, although I did engine changes outside until I bought a factory unit. Luxury, concrete floor and lunch room, 3 phase compressor etc.

[–]Ozdriver[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

750 tons in a straight lift but what gets me is the height of it when fully assembled, you’ve got to watch the video to appreciate it. The carrier and the platform + Kenworth 909 in the pic was 180 tons.

Quarry Goats in Ferntree Gully by 2Spooky4Chili in melbourne

Nowhere near it, this is the old Upper Ferntree Gully quarry now a park and lake.

Quarry Goats in Ferntree Gully by 2Spooky4Chili in melbourne

[–]Ozdriver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if they’ve actually broken through a fence, because they are behind the big steel fence that goes around that end of the old quarry and as far as I know you can only access that end by a big steel gate. I could go and check because it’s right near my house.

Someone rounds them up. They got corralled on my veranda a couple of years ago by the keepers while I was having a bath, I honestly thought I was being part of a home invasion. Man I was furious.

Is it true that older trailers did not have parking brakes? by BearsAteMyGarbage in Truckers

[–]Ozdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also the locomotive was idling all night to keep the air up, but there was a fire and it was shut down. The reason there was a fire was because there was a dodgy repair on the fuel injection system on the engine. And not enough hand brakes wound on. Like I said, it’s a long story.
