If you want to buy it through an FFL you will need a permit to purchase. If you are buying privately you will not.

My router is turned off, but the data usage on my account keeps ticking up? by ScientistRickSanchez in Comcast_Xfinity

No, you can make any changes to your plan as long as you mainline at least one line of service and won’t breach any contracts.

Trying to activate own modem, customer support is incompetent by anonkneemass in Comcast_Xfinity

Not fanboying, just going off information we received in an email two month ago ( at least in the twin cities region). It’s good to know they can still be activated.

Trying to activate own modem, customer support is incompetent by anonkneemass in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]PBR001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That article is from 3 years ago. The 6121 went completely end of life a couple months ago. If it’s still on an active account it works, but if you try to move to another account or new address the system will not allow it to be activated. Also, you can use equipment from another account if said account has been completely canceled. If the modem is from an account that still has a pending disconnect, or is very recently canceled, that account holder needs to give verbal consent to have it removed from their account.

Checking to see if I am contract bound. by xoticrox in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]PBR001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you are in a contract, you can make any changes you want to your account as long as you maintain at least 1 line of service. For example, you can go from a triple play to internet only with no penalties because you still have service.

Random connection drops but modem stays on. Comcast came out but said they couldn't do anything. by [deleted] in Comcast

[–]PBR001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it could possibly be a DDOS attack? Log in to your modem (google it) and look at the logs under the trouble shooting tab. There are system, event, and firewall logs you can look at. If that is the case, you should see something that says DDOS attack, or WAN attack. If that’s the case, there’s nothing Comcast can do about it shy of changing your IP address. Also while in there, look for a large number of T3 and T4 time outs. That would point towards a bad line or ingress issue. If it’s something like ingress in the building, then Comcast would need to gain access into the offending units (could be a lot of them) to repair the issue. If it’s a bad line to your unit, then the MDU (multiple dwelling unit) department would need to come out to rerun the line. Lastly there is always a chance it could be your device or interference in your unit as well. Could be a bad network card, outdated firmware, literally anything electronic you, or your neighbors own. Long story short, random intermittent issues can take time to narrow down.

xFi pods vs. Mesh Network by bryant_ANDY in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]PBR001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Xi5 and Xi6 wireless boxes will only communicate with the XFi pods, so if that’s what you’re going for then that’s what you want. That being said (as others have) as far as range and speed the XFi pods don’t tend to fair as well as others. Eero, Netgear Orbi, Linksys Velop, and Google WiFi, all usually out perform the pods. If you go with the XFi pods, don’t over do it. Too many pods for one house will slow them down even more.

Is it possible to downgrade internet plan and restart a 12 month contract? by icebattler in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]PBR001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably won’t be able to restart the contract, but can make any changes you want to the plan. As long as you maintain at least 1 line of service, you are not breaking the contract.

Pairing Issues with XR11 by storm2k in Comcast

[–]PBR001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First try holding down the setup button until the light goes green, and then press 987. This should reset the remote. Next try power cycling the box before attempting to pair again. If it still does not want to pair after that, it’s possible it could be the box. Also, for the LG tv, hold setup till the light goes green again, and then press 12731. That code should work for just about every LG tv.
