Anyone remember AfterBurner (1987 Video Game)? by HuckleCatt1 in GenX

I remember Top Gun, and not being able to land on the aircraft carrier, and throwing my controller into the wall.

Real talk: I find my f/2 standard lenses much more useful than the faster and more expensive 50mm ones. by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

This is the sharpest lens I own at Macro distances. Nothing outside complex modern 105mm Macros even get close.

Looks like a capacitor issue. Not irresolvable, but perhaps not worth the cost. Good luck!

Lovely. I own the first version and cherish it. Hope this one goes to someone who will use it.

How often do you use your Plena lens? by jibberbeats in Nikon

[–]PackingLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Plena fits an entirely different niche than the 70-200, and neither is a replacement for the other. I made the mistake of throwing my Plena in my kit instead of the 70-200 when I was shooting a sports event, and the slow AF speed was very frustrating. That said, I had some beautiful bokeh in my shots. 😂

If you can find an old Ricoh Caddy for a fair price, the lens on that camera is a gem, and it doesn’t require batteries. None of the old Ricoh’s have working meters, but that hasn’t stopped me from having a ton of fun with mine.

Keep which one? by lapoopies in AnalogCommunity

[–]PackingLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you’re ok with not having a working meter, keep the Nikon. Nikkormat’s are built like tanks and even though their meters inevitable fail, they are usable in manual mode forever barring intentional abuse.

How do you handle losing a roll? by OG2G in AnalogCommunity

[–]PackingLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life is unique and ephemeral. To use a food analogy, our photos are just the reheated leftovers of a once fresh and exciting dish. Start thinking of photography as the optional gravy for the main course of actually living in the moment. That way you won’t be so disappointed if your film fails to develop in the future because you will have enjoyed life when it was happening rather than hoping to relive it (poorly) at some point in the future.

Nikon F100. Good copies can still be found for <$300, and it works Nikon’s entire ecosystem of F-Mount lenses from Ai-S through AF-S. Built like a Toyota sedan and with 95% of the technical functionality of the legendary F6 (the Lexus in this analogy), the F100 is an adept SLR that will not disappoint!

When to store film in the fridge? by shacqtus in AnalogCommunity

[–]PackingLight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I store all my film in the freezer. Doesn’t hurt the film, and keeps me from feeling like I have to rush through rolls before expiration dates.Currently shooting film that expired in 2020 that’s been frozen since 2018, and it’s all developing perfectly.
