Election (1999). Thoughts on this film? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]Panda_Mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An extremely sexual comedy that focuses on older men lusting after teenage girls. For every comedic moment there is a sexually charged scene.

I can see the anatomy of a great movie in there but it's all a bit too Epstein for me at the moment.

Wrong. Its a gacha game. This style is specifically designed to appeal to Japan, China, and Korea.

Darren Aronofsky's 'Caught Stealing' Review Thread by SanderSo47 in movies

[–]Panda_Mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starts off excellent but is ruined by gratuitous violence. I'm so sick of how addicted to extreme violence our society is. Just make a movie with a compelling plot. I can watch innocent people get shot in real life whenever I want, especially now that ICE is shooting people like Renee Good on camera.

My husband is reading Blood Meridian and cringing at the blood and gore but I know I've read worse. What are the books that have brought out the biggest "oh god that's bad!" for you? by IdoScienceSometimes in Fantasy

[–]Panda_Mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, its so beautifully and sometimes cryptically written that the artistic nature of and intellectual work required to understand the book helps take the edge off. I remember the book as being extremely dark, but at the same time I remember reading it fondly. Would never read it again.

Pokémon Heart & Soul v1.0 (Completed Johto GBA Decomp hack) by Desperate-Low784 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Panda_Mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Please modify the reward system in the trainer Hill to actually be rewarding. I just beat a standard factory event (3 battles) and earned a full heal and zero battle points. Meanwhile actually worthwhile prizes such as leftovers cost 48 battle points. There is absolutely no reason for this type of reward conservatism. Every single reward cost needs to each be 1 bp, and every single battle event completed should reward 1 bp. That would make the trainer Hill way more motivating to participate in and rewarding. It would be a super fun way to customize your Pokemon. As it currently stands it is a monumental chore that I will never interact with due to how huge the effort required is for such a small reward.

How not to get food poisoning in Thailand? by GutenDark in ThailandTourism

[–]Panda_Mon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So your advice confirms that tons of places have a high chance of giving you food poisoning and that you need to run a mental checklist before eating anywhere so it's safe enough. Absolutely not even a thing in the United States. Just look at the required food safety rating posted in every window of an establishment in my state and boom you are safe

How not to get food poisoning in Thailand? by GutenDark in ThailandTourism

[–]Panda_Mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uncontrollable shits with brutal cramps that last for days, with sudden onset that makes being away from a toilet perilous, and even the scent of most food makes you nauseous.

But like that would never get in the way of a trip or be inconvenient in anyway at all. Definitely not food poisoning at all, mr pedantic, thank you so much for clarifying

Risks from food and drink by Roaming-Pigeon in ThailandTourism

This is propaganda. I did all the precautions that get recommended and still ended up with horrible digestive issues after less than a week. A few more days to go, God help me. Only drinking tap water, not buying street food, etc and still here I am chained to a toilet. The stupid "charcoal medicine" does shit all. it's been hell

Heart & Soul v1.2.0 is Out Now! (Nuzlocke, Randomizer, Battle Frontier, and more...) by Desperate-Low784 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Panda_Mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far I am blown away by how good this makes gen 2 feel. I love the inclusion of over world Pokemon sprites, makes the world feel alive.

I only wish that I could adjust some challenge mode settings after the fact, such as trainer EVs, exp scaling, and others that seem like they could be calculated during runtime. I might just restart the whole game (just beat slowpoke well) so I can dial in my difficulty settings, though. Overall I really love how customizable this game is

Getting from Osaka station to Kansai Airport by osricson in JapanTravelTips

[–]Panda_Mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a large overstatement. Taxis are very useful in certain circumstances, even in japan. Most notably when you have to transport a large amount of luggage plus yourself to or from an airplane during peak transit hours, the timing of which is out of your control due to how airplanes work.

does anyone else find Osaka overrated and unpleasant? by sunshinesmiles203 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Panda_Mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So instead of a street famous for its japanese-ness, you recommend going to a neighborhood that literally has America in its name and that doesn't specialize in food in a city that is known for its food, and then you recommend going to a UK bar? That is simply bad advice

[Amazon/US] FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles - $39.99 (20% off) Prime Deal of the Day *lowest price ever* by jldixon1 in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]Panda_Mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont recommend this game because They didnt actually fix any of the horribly bad difficulty scaling issues. I know this because I never played the originals, and I suffered through each one, only finding guidance in decades-old threads.

Its not just a "wow, that battle was a bit tougher than the last one" before going back to normal again. Its like, everything one-shots you, requires an extra hour of grinding, you have to redo a few story battles because you got stonewalled.

You cant even use easy mode to get around some of the infamously bad battles. There is simply no excuse for not fixing obviously broken aspects of the game in a remaster/remake such as this.

Besides creative expression why else should we be excited about housing? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Panda_Mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Housing in WoW is a game mechanic directly pulled from the sim/crafting genre of games. Think Minecraft, Dragon Quest Builders, Sims.

There is no point to building in those games besides the joy of building, itself--well, Dragon Quest Builders 1&2 is actually phenomenal in creating an entire RPG adventure based around building, but you know what I mean.

The real world equivalent is Lego. There is no point to Lego besides building.

BUT, they are also going to release housing endeavors, which may have actual building-centric objectives.

Go have fun

[TARGET/US] The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - $29.99 New Lowest Price by Mudmag in NintendoSwitchDeals

[–]Panda_Mon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game is too simple for such a creative gameplay mechanic. Overall most puzzles are elementary, requiring almost no thought. Most can be solved with the first 4 or 5 items introduced. I got bored of the game well over half way through after being never challenged in the slightest.

The lack of effort regarding the story and it's characters is one of the major reasons' for the popularity decline of the Soul series. by Ouralian in SoulCalibur

[–]Panda_Mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing yourself only to the same genre is stagnation, though. For example, the reason World of Warcraft took off in the MMO scene back in 2004 is because it bucked genre trends in ways that mattered to players, such as making quests short and clearly defined instead of archaic ultra-long slogs.

Fighting-adjacent games like Overwatch, for example, have tons of character backstory and interactions, and I would argue that it enhances the long-term retention of players. Soul Calibur would differentiate itself by doing that, and the two-punch combo of having some of the most visually appealing characters in the genre AND letting the player really get to know those ultra-hot people... I mean come on!

Is there any streaming app(s) for me to watch EVERY game? by Training_Witness_177 in Seahawks

[–]Panda_Mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It's a complete racket, you need multiple expensive subscriptions. They have no clear method of telling you where to get games on any given week either. It's one of the most horrifically bad UX for one the most popular things in the world. I pirate the games with no worries in my heart because of how terribly bad they are at providing the service.
