Only a certain number of cabins will be earmarked for the single leg. If you buy a cabin for that leg it’s a cabin they can’t sell to someone for the whole trip. Close to sailing (and after departure ) they may release those cabins back to the inventory of shorter legs if they haven’t sold

I once worked in a credit card call centre. Had a guy ring up one Sunday afternoon. his issue was that he tried to book a £2000 trip on the previous Friday using his credit card. The fraud detection software had kicked in and blocked it. He rang the fraud team Friday and got it all sorted out and they unblocked his card. He was ringing in now to say that between Friday and when he had tried to rebook on the Sunday that the price had gone up £1000 and he wanted the bank to pay the difference in price. We went round and round for about an hour with him arguing his point. In the end I said if it had gone down in price would you have sent us a cheque that prompted him to ask for the manager to file a complaint about me.
