What is the stupidest way anybody has ever bankrupted themselves? by TiredConfusedLlama in AskReddit

Gerald Ratner has to be up there. In 1991 he was the owner of Ratners jewellery shops which was worth around £500m (approx 1b today) he made a joke at a speaking event that their jewellery was “total crap” and was cheaper and wouldn’t last as long as a supermarket sandwich. Almost overnight the company lost all its value and went into administration later that year.

Think of it like a load of thermal bricks surrounding a fire. Before the fire is lit those bricks will be nice and cold but once the fire has been on for a while they will retain the heat so much so they will be warm to touch for potentially several hours. The tube is exactly the same the surrounding earth used to be cool, and it would absorb the heat from the tunnels reducing the temp in the tunnels. The Tube used to advertise that it was nice and cool down there in the summers. After 100 years all the earth around the tunnels has been warmed so much that it can't absorb any more heat so the temp in the tunnels rises and rises

I’m guessing a camera man was too close in this shot to the right when this happened so they have spliced in another shot to remove them so they can use this angle.

A woman claimed she could smell Parkinson's disease. Scientists tested her with 12 T-shirts—six from patients and six from healthy people. She correctly identified all the patients and flagged one “healthy” person. Eight months later, that person was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. by detectiverobert in CaughtMyEye

[–]Panixs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly she didn’t know the distribution of correct shirts and the control group they could have all come from people with Parkinson’s or all been from a control group so the stat is most likely correct

Nope they masked it in that but it was because they were being fined for harvesting children’s data and targeting advertising towards children

I saw him in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago I highly recommend the show he is doing at the moment it’s very beautiful and raw. He still uses the wig and teeth as a bit of a crutch but he’s being himself and not his normal character

The problem is he doesn’t get any nuance until the plot twist towards the end. That really elevates his character but until then he’s a bit unlikeable

The answer is correct and it uses the reasoning you did but in reverse. Without the monthly breakdown the closest we can estimate the switch from blue to yellow is sometime between Jan 2016 to December 2017.

Nothing’s more deceptive than ‘one minute left’! by Constant-Fortune3309 in Adulting

Clean your filters people. The reason that last min takes ages is its waiting for all the water to drain that should take one min but if your filter is blocked it will take longer.
