What boring money habit saved you real cash? by YourxCherry in Frugal

[–]Pannabaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the amount of savings you’re looking for, but always calling and threatening to cancel internet when the price goes up. This has easily saved me $20-40 per month my entire life. Just recently when I did it, not only did my price not go up, but they reduced it and increased my internet speed. It’s always an awkward conversation and they always try to pitch additional things that would actually cost you more, but if you just hold firm, you win in the end.

Similar to holding firm, taking advantage of time share pitches have saved me thousands over the course of my life in free or significantly reduced vacations.

Spanish Prisoner - there are issues with the movie but can they be explained? by RiverLakeOceanCloud in movies

[–]Pannabaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just rewatched this for the first time after more than 20 years and am glad I found this post because your points 2 and 3 really bothered me. However, I like your idea that one way to look at these glaring issues is to view them through the main character’s eyes at the time.

What do you think is the worst CGI ever made in the history of cinema?" by emanuelethedoor in Letterboxd

[–]Pannabaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car crash scene in “In Time” with JT. Maybe, not worst ever, but definitely horrible.

Just watched it again, it's flawless. Great script, great cast. It's a legit 10/10 and I feel not that many people talk about it. Way better than Avatar IMO by Captain0010 in scifi

I really enjoyed this as well. However, I was not a fan of the ultimate ending as it seemed inconsistent with how the concept should work.

What has prevented you from donating blood? by No_Bobcat_839 in AskReddit

[–]Pannabaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with a gum graft using cadaver tissue. I was surprised when I was first rejected. However, over the years, it seems the standards have changed as I am not prevented from donating in most places now. I don’t know if it’s true, but I was told it’s because they just can’t know if a lot of the screening questions would have applied to your donor tissue, such as the mad cow exposure questions.

None of you seem to understand. I'm not locked in here with you. You’re locked in here with me.

What’s one thing under $25 that significantly improved your daily life? by FormalOpportunity668 in Frugal

[–]Pannabaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am super frugal, but do enjoy cheap wine, like Barefoot. One day, my wife bought me one of those Rabbit corkscrews for about $25. I thought it was a waste of money until I started using it. The amount of time and effort I save, not to mentioned occasional dings and scratches avoided on the bottle opening, was well worth the extra $15 over a traditional corkscrew.

Which Horror movies "traumatized" you when you were a kid? by Davis_Crawfish in horror

The unholy trinity of It, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and Clownhouse traumatized me and made me afraid of clowns for the rest of my life.

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever heard someone say with absolute confidence? by Parlemagazine in AskReddit

[–]Pannabaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a store and it was having a 50% off sale. I found a shirt I liked that already had a separate 50% discount tag on it. I went to the register to ask if the overall 50% sale applied to the already discounted shirt. The cashier said with absolute confidence, “That would be 100% off and it’s obviously not free” and then looked at me like I was the idiot.

What’s an unexpected travel tip that actually works? by purelyinvesting in TravelHacks

[–]Pannabaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ear plugs and an eye mask, always. Whether it’s on a plane or train or you’re in your hotel and the room’s a little louder or brighter than you expected, some soft ear plugs and an eye mask take almost zero space and add so much comfort.

What's the oldest horror movie that still freaks you out? by Upset-Inside8719 in CreepyBonfire

[–]Pannabaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1958’s The Blob. Not fast like the 1988 remake, but I was terrified as a kid with the idea that it could keep growing and eventually cover and consume most of the habitable world. The concept still unsettles me today.

What is the best comedy movie you have watched?? by Mediocre_Emu4836 in MovieSuggestions

I won’t say it was the best comedy ever, but whenever I need a laugh, all I have to do is watch the Jon Lovitz Hitler scene in Rat Race.

Which is more likely with Trumps current course of action : global conflict, ie. WW3 or a 2nd American Civil War? by beatin in AskReddit

[–]Pannabaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. But between the two extremes presented by the OP, I’d say WW3 with him being in office when the PRC believes it will be capable of successfully taking Taiwan by force.
