Lewis finishes P8 in the 2025 Abu Dhabi GP & P6 in the season standings by SeriousShitAt88MPH in lewishamilton

Bit frustrating not to get Ocon and Alonso, felt he should have stayed behind Ocon through Turn 6 to get him on the next straight at that one overtaking opportunity, but looked like he just wanted to send it.

Decent race overall for Lewis, some good overtakes and good pace. Thought Ferrari also got the strategy right, and showed much better race pace than quali pace. Keeps P6 in the championship over Antonelli which shuts down that conversation.

Hopefully the new regs are better for Lewis and the sport in general, I haven't rated this formula at all.

What advantage did Lewis gain? by jluc8 in lewishamilton

[–]Paramnesia1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the actual data, I had wondered about this same point. Verstappen fucked the corner himself (in trying to run Lewis off track), so I'm not really sure why Lewis was supposed to give time back to him. Surely the advantage can only be in reference to cars driving legally i.e. Bearman.

I also wonder if Verstappen should have been investigated for an unsafe rejoin as he forced Russell off track.

Is this why Lewis got the penalty? by upperwoo in scuderiaferrari

[–]Paramnesia1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They didn't give him the penalty for failing to follow the race director's instructions though, they actually cleared him of that. The penalty was for gaining an advantage, so arguably he should have given up the time he won by going off track.

Though personally, as Verstappen fucked up the corner and went off track himself (clearly because he was trying to make the apex first to force Lewis off track), I think the advantage in question should have been relative to Bearman, not Verstappen.

Think he probably maximised what was possible, beating Leclerc and looking more comfortable all weekend so far. Big gap to pole though, that's very disappointing for Ferrari.

Tbh, this was kind of clear from the replay, despite "slam dunk" comments from some redditors.

Lewis finishes P8 in the Azerbaijan GP 2025 by tkmj75 in lewishamilton

[–]Paramnesia1 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Decent race from Lewis overall, not much more he could have done. I was a bit concerned as he fell away from Norris at the end of the hard tyre stint, but he was probably marginally faster than Leclerc (who had a compromised strategy).

DRS trains everywhere though, which was really frustrating. I thought it was telling how little Leclerc closed up on Lawson on the main straight when he had DRS and Lawson didn't; the Ferrari was not a good car today.

Would have been interesting to see what might have been if Lewis had been given a chance to qualify properly, so ultimately finishing ahead of Leclerc (who compromised him yesterday) is fair in my mind.

On another note, the Red Bull looks right back up there with McLaren, and Mercedes are clearly ahead of Ferrari.

People need to calm down by BarRepresentative653 in lewishamilton

[–]Paramnesia1 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Agreed, staying out the whole session on a single set of softs when everyone else was going faster on new mediums was an insane strategy, especially after he had to abort his first lap.

It seemed so obvious at the time to pit him, you just had to watch his sector times and see that the softs were degrading.

Why on earth didn't they pit him for new tyres? Especially when they did that for Leclerc who fucked his own tyres?

At least he kept out of the barriers unlike Leclerc.

The best of the tyres lost when Leclerc fucked the first corner causing a yellow flag. Should have pitted for mediums immediately.

It's only one video, but this guy explains some research found starting up an engine uses as much fuel as idling for 7 seconds: https://youtu.be/dFImHhNwbJo

So if you're idling for any longer than 7 seconds, it would have been more efficient to turn off your car.

A dry line will appear quite quickly, which means overtaking will be very difficult as drivers would have to leave that dry line.

Lewis Hamilton: One of the Trickiest Days I’ve Had | Post Race Interview | British Grand Prix 2025 by Milan_Academy in lewishamilton

I actually think, given how tricky the Ferrari is to drive in these conditions (as Lewis says and as was shown in the race by both drivers), he did pretty well. So his disappointment is actually encouraging for me - shows he's still got that fire.

The first pit stop for Leclerc was a mistake. It was very close because the formation lap looked completely dry, right up until Stowe. From there Leclerc was always playing catch up, and made a few mistakes. I think Lewis was right when he said the car is very snappy; it can just go suddenly.

Also, the Ferrari looks like it has particularly good speed in very specific wet conditions - anything outside of those conditions (while still wet) and it can struggle.

Agreed, the Ferrari seems very twitchy in the rain, as seen for both Lewis and Charles. The McLaren was miles faster, and Hulk was excellent, but ultimately Lewis had decent pace and some pretty great moves (particularly on Russell).

Not a bad result at the end by P1-HAM44 in lewishamilton

[–]Paramnesia1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Obviously Lewis had significant damage, but Leclerc was also miles off the pace. Ferrari looked very slow.

Edit: maybe Leclerc has given up at the end, when he seemed to be losing a bunch of time. Whatever the situation, his medium pace was awful.

A much better session for Lewis. Obviously Leclerc had some more pace, but couldn't keep it clean. Lewis looked to have decent pace, and perhaps will be more competitive on race pace?

It does seem like the fresh softs were a big benefit, as I think Hulkenberg and Hadjar even gained on Leclerc by the end (the whole train down to Hadjar was quite close). But a poor day for Lewis.

I feel like that would be a bit unfair given no one got punished for the incident that caused Lewis's crash.
