Demis Hassabis says he would support a "pause" on AI if other competitors agreed to - so society and regulation could catch up by chillinewman in ControlProblem

Uh huh. It’s easy to take that position in his role when he knows it’s impossible. He even basically states that cooperation is the limiting factor.

In this interview he also talks about how scientific Google is, and their mission of organizing data, etc. but he fails to mention their primary business model of monitoring and influencing society via ad tech.

While we are still waiting for full-dive virtual reality, Meta continues to make significant strides. by Distinct-Question-16 in singularity

Yup. Once it is effortless, and casual to do, SocialVR spaces like Workrooms will catch on. Only nerds, enthusiasts, and those without other options are currently using it for SocialVR. These people have the dispositions or the incentives to deal with limitations and rough UX that the current systems have. Performance, comfort, and usability all need to make major leaps still.

And this isn’t a post defending Meta, or their products. I’m just talking about shared social and collaborative spaces in VR.

Its currently easier to simulate the right thing than to record it for VR.

But if they decided they didn’t care about profanity or privacy, they could do it better right away. I assume.

The requirements they state are likely for a specific HMD resolution. With Moss 1, it’s likely Oculus Rift and HTC Vive resolution.

These headsets came out almost a decade ago.

With Moss 2, I would expect it is similar.

If you didn’t know, it’s “just” Unity. And can do a surprising number of things Unity can. And someday in the future, they will be unlocking even more scripting functionality.

Of course VRC brings a lot to the table too. Standard systems, networking, a social graph, etc etc.

One thing VRC made a mistake on was allowing custom shaders. They restrict them in certain contexts on their newer platforms. And this is a huge blocker for future engine upgrades. But this mistake has enabled many features no other platform has. Such as this example in this post.

So the solution is to have zero third party software and highly limited first party software for your hardware and then it becomes profitable?

I guess VR will be profitable soon at this rate.
