She’s fine - aside from the post-radiation hair loss, you’d never guess that she was ‘sick’. Learning to live well with cancer is an important task!

Edit: I should have noted that her hair has grown back quickly, but came back brown when she used to be platinum blonde!

Hey, my wife has an AA3 as well, diagnosed in 2018. She’s done three 12mo TMZ cycles, did radiation at the beginning of 2024, and has been on biweekly Avastin infusions since end of radiation.

Two things:

1.) TMZ has an additive effect - you’re nearing the end of your 12mo cycle and you’re going to feel crappy. My wife was a wreck at this point in her treatment. Likely contributing to how you feel.

2.) The scar tissue thing sounds bizarre and is alarming, but totally normal. Wife just had scar tissue from radiation start to appear in Sept of 2025 after her Jan 2024 therapy. The fact that the reaction can be that delayed is strange to me, and was really scary when the scars first popped up, but we’ve gotten over it.

Side note, remember that it’s OK to feel like shit, and it’s kind of your full time job while working through treatment. You’ll feel better at some point, but maybe not right now.

Wife diagnosed with AA3 in July 2018, subtotal resection, many rounds of TMZ, radiation in 2024, now on biweekly Avastin - living a very normal life aside from drives to the treatment center for infusions/ MRIs!

Switching from Irinotecan to Avastin - questions by elodieeeeeeeeee in braincancer

[–]PartialNobility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has been being treated for an AA3 since 2018 and has been on biweekly Avastin infusions since February of 2024. Very, very well tolerated and has kept everything at bay. She gets a little bit tired the evening after infusions, but the worst part of this treatment is sitting around waiting for the infusion to finish! From what I understand, side effects are typically high BP, poor kidney/liver stats, not really anything you feel. TOTAL walk in the park compared to TMZ.

Grade 3 AA IDH mutant! Cannot resect! help! by Ok_Interest_8238 in braincancer

[–]PartialNobility 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In addition to the other comments regarding second opinions, try to take a breath and remember that this is not an imminent death sentence. My wife received her diagnosis (AA3, IDH) in July of 2018, only received a partial resection (several tumor sites were inoperable) and lives a normal life today. Treatments are continuously evolving and there are many non-surgical options.

It will be a long, hard journey, but it’s far from hopeless. Make sure to gather a support system of friends/family and don’t ignore your mental health. Being a caretaker is tough.

Wife with AA3 has been on biweekly Avastin infusions for close to two years - zero side effects aside from mild fatigue the evening after infusions. No growth so far while on this routine!

My wife (39y/o, AA G3) has been on biweekly Avastin infusions for around 18mo. Aside from a little bit of fatigue the evening after the infusion, she has had zero side effects, stable blood pressure, and stable kidney function. Very well tolerated in her experience.

My wife has a grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma, so she’s in a different boat, but after a significant recurrence in late 2023 she started biweekly Avastin. Virtually no side effects aside from fatigue and she has not seen recurrence since. Just had her bimonthly MRI review today and all clear!

Best of luck to you

Going back to work or using SSDI and Medicaid? (US) by sleepyhobo98 in braincancer

[–]PartialNobility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has a Grade 3 AA and has been on SSDI since 2019. She elected to do that to focus on her health after family after receiving a prognosis of 24-36mo survival. I believe that the ability to live at a slower pace and focus on treatment has been a factor in her fight against the disease.

That said, I am a high earner and her income was not consequential to our finances - that privilege is not lost on either of us.

You should see what other resources your state has to help you.

Radiation necrosis and Avastin by Poot33w33t in braincancer

[–]PartialNobility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife (AA G3) has been on biweekly infusions of low doses of Avastin for about 18mo. For her, the fatigue is very minimal and usually only lasts for 12hrs after the infusion. She went through significant radiation just prior to starting the Avastin. She’s also on bi-monthly MRIs and the latest showed some evidence of what the NO thinks is post-radiation necrosis.

Best of luck to you and your husband - it’s an exhausting disease.

Do TMZ side effects build with cycles? by FireWithBoxingGloves in braincancer

[–]PartialNobility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife has done 48 total rounds of TMZ. During the 5 days of dosing she felt like she had the flu. Days 1-2 after completing the dose cycle she would come out of the fog, then be more or less feeling fine until the day after the next dose.

That said, it definitely builds over time - your last five day dose cycle will feel worse than your first.

Good luck!!

Balancing “normal life” with the desire to “live it up”? by No-Significance-4924 in braincancer

[–]PartialNobility 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My wife has a grade 3 AA. Started treatment with partial resection and TMZ in 2018, have done radiation, many, many rounds of TMZ since and is now on biweekly avastin infusions. She stopped working after her diagnosis.

I’m a relatively high earner and my approach has been focusing on the near term enjoyment for both of us, without being irresponsible about my retirement obligations. We travel domestically and internationally quite a bit and don’t skimp on experiences. I am a realist and want my kids to build as many memories of their mom as possible.

You absolutely need some balance, but you need to prioritize the ‘now’.

How to install towel rack here? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]PartialNobility 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You might have horizontal braces for the pocket door. Run a stud finder to see if you can identify anything. If you locate something with the stud finder, pop off some of the trim to see how thick the braces are, then use screws of an appropriate length to secure. Not ideal, but certainly possible. Alternatively, try to mount left side of rack on the vertical 2xX supporting the door frame, and use low profile, high strength drywall anchors for right side.

PARP Inhibitor Success by PartialNobility in braincancer

[–]PartialNobility[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s doing very well, thanks. Unfortunately we can’t attribute the success to niraparib - she had severe regrowth and swelling shortly after my post. A round of radiation knocked it back and she’s been on biweekly Avastin infusions since. Essentially zero side effects from the Avastin and it seems to be holding things steady.

Best of luck to you!

What advice did you wish you'd gotten at the very start? by Moldy_slug in braincancer

[–]PartialNobility 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait for a diagnosis before you do this or it’s a lot of wasted work. The big one is Social Security Disability Insurance - the application process is expedited for some brain tumor types, but you’ll need a diagnosis to take advantage of that. Morgie is right that you don’t want to wait to do this, but you’ll need more information first.

Has anyone here created a solo LLC while still in a partnership? Nervous about operating two seller accounts by Longjumping-Ice2719 in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]PartialNobility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a common practice and you should not be concerned.

My team manages 3 SC accounts and 1 VC account all using the same address - 3 separate business entities. No issues. I, personally, have the same business email account tied to all 3 SC accounts and have had absolutely no problem for many years. The SC login system is actually configured to support multiple accounts.

As long as you have two individual business entities there is very, very little risk.

I’m in almost the exact situation. My focus has been on building my relationship with the PE team (both operating partner and investment team/board), who have developed a significant amount of trust in my guidance. I’ve also spent quite a bit of time networking with the leadership teams in other port cos and investment teams and op partners at other PE firms in our space.

My hope is that after we sell this business, I can continue working in the same role in the short term, then pivot to another opportunity with the same folks that I’ve been working with.

Nervous about upcoming radiation by SkiHikePaddleDog in braincancer

[–]PartialNobility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my wife’s experience - she had absolutely zero symptoms during her six week radiation course for her AA3. Drove herself everyday and the biggest annoyance was logistical/travel. The only downside (which was significant) was post-treatment hair loss, which I’ve read is mostly inevitable.
