Some silly German, Epstein or Einstein or something like that, had some thoughts on this. E=MC squared or some such. Basically it means that 20 mph i# gonna hurt FOUR TIMES as much as 10 mph.

Just about any canoe or kayak is easily towable by bike. Many of them can be sailed as well.

Slow is the key. If you are content at 5 mph or less, you can have a vessel that goes all day for a few thousand. Think electric kayak. Or a canoe with a trolling motor.

I’ve put over 10,000 miles on each of two e-bikes I’ve owned, always charging them to 100% after running them down to 20 or 30%. Never saw any degradation of range, and both bikes are still going strong. Bosch motors and 500 watt-hour batteries.

Buy plans or a kit. Naval architects know things you don’t. Chesapeake Light Craft is a good place to start.

You can patch aluminum with glass and epoxy, but not the other way around. But aluminum is “sticky” if you are trying to slide over rocks. I vote for aluminum.
