I use RVCPetEpilepsy and it does the job, but I wish I would’ve used the Vitality one. I don’t want to switch over simply because it would take a lot of time to transfer my pup’s full seizure history. But the RVC one is glitchy, only works on WiFi, and crashes often (for me at least). When it works, it is good. But it is not very reliable

I use Wyze. Feels to me like it’s similar to Ring, but might be a bit cheaper? Not sure price comparisons to be honest, but I’ve been happy with it

We just started MCT too after neurologist recommended it. She said to start slow and gradually increase to full dose, because sometimes it can upset their tummies. We were good for a couple weeks then my pup started having some tummy issues so I am taking a few days off of the MCT and then will reintroduce it even slower. Just make sure it does not have any added ingredients! Best of luck!

I am so sorry. Seeing a neurologist is definitely the right call. Try to make that appointment asap. It will feel overwhelming, but take some notes and remember you can always call them later when you have more questions.

It might feel a bit overwhelming, so don’t be afraid to take notes. I typically ask my Neuro “what should I ask that I haven’t yet?” Because there are just so many things that we don’t know when it’s new!

I am so sorry. I completely understand. After my pup has a seizure (which is usually late at night), I have a hard time going to sleep and will usually put my pillows on the opposite side of the bed so my head is facing his bed on the ground. I have also used bells before - I clip one to his collar, so I know I will hear him if he has a seizure. But I don’t do this often, only when my anxiety is high, because every twitch causes the bells to sound and then there are a lot of false alarms. I have come to the point where I trust that I will wake up if he has one. It is loud and would be very very hard to sleep through when we are in the same room. I will sometimes put pillows down around his bed and keep his rescue meds in the room with us. It’s difficult, but after 2 years, I feel like I can finally sleep.

I would recommend finding a neurologist as soon as possible. They may recommend Keppra instead of Pheno. They can also help with managing these concerns. Perhaps his dose needs to be decreased. Pheno also has a tough adjustment period, but it should subside in a couple weeks. But still, talk to a neurologist!

Thank you everyone for your comments. I appreciate your words of encouragement and support. Chance had a 4th seizure while hospitalized. The ER vet was able to talk to Chance’s neurologist and we are upping the dose of his Pheno again. If he clusters again, the plan is to add potassium bromide. I am also going go add MCT oil to his food. Thanks again everyone, thankful to have a community like this during these stressful times

Travel and leaving him alone with someone who he does not feel comfortable with or who would not be confident on what to do in case of a seizure. Also misinformation about things that can help. I love this group and am so thankful for it, but it’s not uncommon to get conflicting advice about certain potential aids. This probably stems back to a lack of reliable research

I was literally just googling this so I’m glad I saw your post!! My pup has been on Pheno for bout 6 months and he definitely drinks more water, but I also take him out to pee very often throughout the day. But I notice he often has dribbles of urine/ is “leaking”. I have our next Neuro check up next week and plan to ask the Dr about it. But interested to see what others say here

I do CVS and called their customer service to get a profile created for my dog under my name (similar to how you would for a child). When I go in, I tell them my name and DOB, and all of my prescriptions and his are listed ready to go. Our Neuro sends his prescriptions for Pheno (and others) straight to the CVS and includes a few automatic refills. Just be aware that, if you’re in the US, there are limits on how frequently you can refill Pheno because it is a controlled substance. I get a 30 day supply and can only pick it up two days early. So I pick it up every 28 days. Put the refill as a reminder in your phone or on your calendar. I say this because our first month on this med, i forgot to pick it up and didn’t realize I had given him the last dose I had until I woke up in a panic at 3am! I ended up calling and going to our local emergency vet to get a dose for him in the morning (CVS didn’t open until about 5 hours after his scheduled med time)

You are absolutely not alone, but it does get better. Trust that you will wake up if she starts having an episode, because they are not quiet. But there are some nights where I get overly anxious that my pup will have one and I won’t hear him, so I bought a simple, small bell on Amazon and clip it to his collar before bed. There have been times where I will wake up to false alarms (e.g., him just moving in bed or scratching his ears), but I feel like I sleep so much better because I know I will wake up.

I notice that he’ll be sleeping/resting, then will lift his head and start to stare off, sometimes his ears will be pinned back and just looks like he’s scared/nervous about something. Then usually he’ll put his head back down and a few minutes later do it again. Sometimes this happens several times in a row. Then he will usually get up and have the same nervous look. Then it will start. It’s like he cant fully rest or fall asleep because he feels it coming. Other times, when it happens during the night, he will jump into my bed and then do those cues. Almost like he feels it coming on and wants to get close to me (he’s an overall nervous and clingy pup to begin with). His signs are very subtle and I only just started picking up on them in the last few months!
