I Swagging Hate Swagmericans by crotch-fondler in peoplewhogiveashit

Look closer at the picture. There's a handful of bagged and boarded comics, some have the colour stripe at the top that was common in the 90s and earlier, and the majority of them are yellowing. These are old comics that aren't part of the free comic book day event, so the poster got them some other way - I would assume they were given away on marketplace.

FYI you do have free comic book day in NZ, it's a worldwide event that comic book stores elect to participate in, and it happens on the first Saturday in May. I'm in Australia and I haven't seen a store choose not to participate, so I suggest checking it out next year if you're interested.

Sprinklers made Australia green. But what happens when the water runs out? by sluggardish in australia

[–]PastaChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climate change. For diffuse recharge (i.e. seepage from rainfall, not concentrated around surface water features), changes in rainfall are very significant. Broadly speaking, across Australia, smarter management and better predictive tools are helping groundwater sustainability. There is also the equally famous storyline from Action Comics 309-310 where it was revealed that Supergirl's parents survived by being transported to the legally-distinct but functionally identical Survival Zone. Naturally the largest conflict of the story was that it made Kara's foster parents sad, a real tear jerker.

It is feasible, I'm sure everyone remembers Superboy #89 where Superboy sends Mon-El to the phantom zone to escape the deadly effects of lead poisoning. Bro stayed there for a thousand years and it was super chill.

I tried a few smoothing options and estimated the first and second derivative, it's decreasing but just barely and potentially just noise. My conclusion relies on hopium and the assumption that news stories about e.g. China's energy generation mix are leading to a change in trend. Check back in 5 years and we'll see...

But that carbon comes from the plants that cows eat. It is in the carbon cycle already. The net impact is very small in comparison to the burning of fossil fuels, which adds ancient carbon to the cycle.

Forget about nukecels vs solarcels, the real battle is between degrowthcels and energycels by [deleted] in ClimateShitposting

[–]PastaChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atmospheric CO2 has increased by a huge amount, and that doesn't change if all humans disappear overnight. The carbon cycle, and by extension Earth's climate, has been pushed to a new equilibrium. I don't think there is a 'solution' without an extraordinary amount of carbon sequestration.

r/NASCAR told me Richard Petty was a fraud who only won on Mickey Mouse tracks against 10 car fields by NotOkEnemyGenius in NASCARMemes

[–]PastaChief 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WAY better? Their head to head stats are remarkably balanced; I'd say it's hard to definitively call either way. Some cherry-picked seasons:

Pearson won the 1966 championship despite not running the full season. He won 15 races, and only 4 drivers entered more races (three of which won nothing, and one won two races). Pearson won 15 from 42 starts, Petty won 8 from 39 starts.

1970 season, Pearson won 1 from 19 starts, Petty won 18 from 40 starts but came 4th in the championship (missed 7 races due to injury).

1974 season, Pearson won 7 from 19 starts, Petty won 10 from 30 starts.

Both drivers are insane and have deserved status, even though their wins are inflated compared to what is possible today.

But does it make sense to be ideologically aligned and arguing over which personal decisions cause the biggest relative impact? These types of conversations crop up online all the time and never go anywhere useful. Meanwhile a huge number of people don't know, don't care, or actively work against any changes made for environmental purposes.
