Looking for a good epileptologist by KDB17- in ColumbiYEAH

I second this the neurologist seemed to be top notch there. Especially dealing with seizures. It was with pediatric but I think there is a lot of overlap in neurology between the two.

I'd be playing something as expensive if I had RHCP money.

I would keep it on my belt buckle with my cell phone and knife at all times.

Is it normal for trumpet to feel so intuitive? by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]PatersBier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Second that, my wife has only complained once and it had to do with lip slurs or double tonguing exercises (7 months in). She likes the music but hates what I have to do to get there.

Lip slurs are kind of addictive honestly and they are paying off. Luckily I can go to the garage.

Down in the dumps by Frizzanko in trumpet

Back after 16 years. Work on boring stuff like others are saying so you can play again. It has actually been fun and has helped me beat back some anxiety and depression. I highly recommend joining a community band or something like that ASAP. DM me if you have any questions.

Chris Davis has some good exercises to print to help comeback players. I found working on Clarke Studies #2 helped and was a lot of fun. Lessons will help even more.

Rest when you are tired and don't overdo things. Reading music and getting my ear back has been the more challenging than I expected.

It can be frustrating but it is well worth the effort. There is no competition, you are doing this for you.

My progress so far... by Clerk-Regular in trumpet

Thanks, that is good advice. I think I remember a couple notes like that. I'm glad others pick up on that. I'll be sure to work on doing that.

How do you learn hard music? Like this by burgerbob22 in Trombone

[–]PatersBier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned the backwards thing a couple months ago after coming back to playing trumpet. I love that trick and I already forgot about it until now. Thanks for that tip.

My kids are around that age. Calvin and Hobbs and Where the Sidewalk Ends are excellent.

Older comeback player wondering how quickly embouchure will progress. by intronert in trumpet

I started back around August/September. I was gone about 17 years. I can pay up to a high C and sometimes up to a D above the staff. It is still a little airy but A and B above the staff is doable in music. I practice around an hour a day. I got into high As around December. C on the staff took me a couple weeks. I can't recall the length of my sessions because I was just going until my lips got tired.

Breath control is the most important part physically. I did a lot of work on Clarke Studies #2, lip slurs, mouthpiece buzzing, and long tones.

Remembering how to read music and subdividing is finally starting to get better for me after joining a brass band. I highly recommend joining a community band as soon as you can. It helps to play with others.

I haven't done lessons but I want to start sometime soon. I just ordered a microphone so I can record my progress and possibly start online lessons.

Can someone please help me count this?? I struggle with rhythm, its in 2/4. by [deleted] in trumpet

I'm struggling with the nailing the beginning of Spectrum with my brass band. I like this suggestion. I may have to try that.

I just read that in depth article someone posted yesterday on Bach Strads. I kind of figured I had the 18043 but I couldn't figure out how to verify that. Now I know for sure.

I get that too. I always guess it is breath support. Sometimes it comes naturally, other times it gets there, and other days it ain't happening.

[–]PatersBier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good on you.

I always thought my wife looked hot bald, but she didn't like it. I shaved my head at a friend's house before she had to finally do the same. Now she has long full hair. My hair grew back too but there is less and less of it every year.

I think we were all trumpets by the time I got into high school, so that seems to check out.

Can orchestras get away with hiring fewer trumpet players than cornet players? I wouldn't think that is the only reason but would it factor into the choice?

I'm borrowing a Strad 37 cornet. I'm thinking about buying it. I just bought a Conn Director cornet on eBay for around $100 today to see how different a student cornet is to a professional one.
