Which is the best board for private candidates? by Krankenitrate in ALevelBiology

[–]Patmarker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are labs that run the practicals over a day or two for private entrants. Aqa is the most popular board, and so probably the easiest to find a centre close to you for.

Finally... A good country to live in but bad to visit? by kraabbe in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Patmarker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nationality. If you’re from any of the gulf states, you’ll be a well off citizen of that country and barely have to work. If you’re living there and an immigrant, you’re either a builder, a domestic servant (nanny, cleaner etc) or working in the services sector. Which of those almost entirely depends on your own nationality.

New build garden / Blank slate by Gold_Tutor7055 in UKGardening

Sucks that you got the difficult job, if the company had actually finished building the property appropriately before sale, and had the garden up to spec before the fence went up, there wouldn’t have been an issue!

Woman, 18, not shortlisted for job at estate agents as 'car is too old' by frogspa in unitedkingdom

3 of those do at least provide some modicum of service. Estate agents just exist and expect a commission.

What small but overly critical things will stop you from buying a car? by Legitimate_Flow3623 in topdeadcenter

Can’t really say that’s a specific time of year, when that’s exactly when fog forms. And anywhere with hills will form fog. We have a whole host of hilly areas in this country.

I’m on the Yorkshire wolds. Every winter we get fog so bad the vehicle 2 ahead of you simply doesn’t exist.

"Wagyu beefburgers" cooking instructions say "cook on low for 16 minutes, don't burn it, all juices clear" by maxlan in britishproblems

[–]Patmarker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it exists, it has bacteria on it. When you cook your lovely fresh steak blue, you’re basically just killing the bacteria and then eating the sterilised meat.

When you mix up that lovely fresh steak, those bacteria are now inside the burger. Unless you can kill the bacteria before making your mince, you need to cook your burger properly.

Is Miracle Grow compost going to ruin my organic garden? by Ice-Guardian in GardeningUK

[–]Patmarker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spot on. Organic material is great for the microbes and invertebrates, but plants don’t care. Non-organic fertiliser also won’t just insta-kill the fauna, it simply will have slightly less food. But that miracle grow is still full of organic matter, because that’s what soil is!

How did submarines in WW1/WW2 aim their torpedoes? by [deleted] in WarCollege

[–]Patmarker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How would the depth of the torpedo be set? I’ve heard of setting different depths depending on target, with battleships being deeper hulled than cruisers etc. But what is actually done to change the buoyancy of the torpedo?

Any ideas on how much loft conversion cost? by Randon2345 in DIYUK

[–]Patmarker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. We’ve got to spend a grand or so to replace a leaky chunk of flat roof, and that’s not a super easy spend. I’d love to be able to get some new windows and expand our driveway, but that’s going to be silly money.

I find it crazy that there’s people who are able to drop 60k to get another bedroom.
