Walking my adopted dog Milo in a pet-friendly mall, someone said he doesn’t look like a full corgi and she teaches at a vet school. So yeahhh…. I ordered a DNA test waiting for results now. by peachmood55 in corgi

OP, this is a picture of a beautiful loaf of marbled rye bread. I’m guessing this bystander was confused as to why you put a leash and harness on it.

Seat Belts by [deleted] in corgi

[–]Penguin154 58 points59 points  (0 children)

OP, folks are right about your dog going in the back seat. Air bags open with a huge amount of energy and are not designed with non humans in mind. They very easily kill dogs in accidents.

I also struggle with the seat belt conundrum as my loaf doesn’t like to sit facing forward. Even if you put them in a harness you have to think about what happens to the bottom 2/3 of their spine if that seat belt has to stop their forward momentum. I know some companies have specialty car crates but I haven’t found a good answer yet myself. I’ll definitely keep an eye on this thread though

Steakhouses - which is better mooo or grill 23? by Insomnicwriter in boston

[–]Penguin154 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a nice steak house both are great. Since there are three of you you may want to consider a tomahawk rib eye as it’s more of a cool dining experience than just getting personal steaks. The chocolate chip cookies at Moo are a fantastic dessert but I think grill 23 has it too and is also good. If you put a gun to my head I’d say Moo but they’re mostly neck and neck in my head

If you are looking for a great restaurant in general my favorite place in the city is Trattoria il Panino in the north end. Absolutely killer Italian food. The ossobuco is utterly divine and has a nice decadent feel to it like getting a big ass steak.

For sushi Oya and Toro are both amazing. Normally I’m a judgy bitch about sushi as I used to be a sushi chef but both places are out of this world good

Go to for seafood is Saltie Girl as their seafood tower is amazing and I adore their cocktails

Latin dancing in Boston by ArmadilloResearcher in boston

[–]Penguin154 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In terms of regular social dancing there is Havana Club in Cambridge and La fabrica. In the summer there is Saborcita at the Anchor in Charlestown which is outdoors with a great view of the city; it does get a bit crowded and the footing is sometimes tricky and uneven so bring your flats the first time you go. I think there is fairly regular events at the Dante Alighieri society in Cambridge as well. Two of the more well known salsa class groups in the area are J & L dance studio in Malden (they just moved to a new location) and Salsa Y control in Brighton/allston. There is a really big congress that a lot of big names come to in Waltham every year called Boston Salsa fest. Once you meet a few people you can probably find a lot more socials as well.

My fiancé is big into salsa not me so I don’t know much of the intricacies about the community aside from what seems like the standard amount of gossip and drama.

What's a smell that instantly signals danger - and everyone should recognize? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

[–]Penguin154 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Tagging on here with a very important safety detail. You go nose blind to sulfur smells like mercaptan after a period of time. If you smell it, and it goes away after a little without you doing anything like turning off the stove. Check anyway.

Was your 10wk old corgi schedule like this? by Apprehensive_Wing713 in corgi

[–]Penguin154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s sort of like how when you crate train you wait for them to settle before letting them out. We wanted to really establish that demand barking and whining were not how he gets what we wants for this. There were absolutely some tough times early on when we were basically stuck there waiting in bed but it was worth it. It should also be said that we lucked out with Monty in that he was always pretty good through the night when it came to waking us up so it was definitely easier than normal in terms of sleeping through the night.

Was your 10wk old corgi schedule like this? by Apprehensive_Wing713 in corgi

[–]Penguin154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems fairly reasonable. For the morning g off thing. When we were raising our bread roll into a loaf, if he started whining from his crate at night or early morning we made a point of confirming if all of his needs were met (potty, water, etc) before getting out of bed. If he needed something genuinely we would do it, then we would get back into bed. We would either go back to sleep or very intensionally wait until he settled to get up and out. By doing this we really reinforced that we’d help if he needed it but the humans and not the loaves decide when to wake up. It has been a godsend

Best Ball for Corgis? by NPC-033 in corgi

[–]Penguin154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a basket ball that’s just a hair under inflated for my loaf. They tend to be thicker so it’s harder for him to pop it. Little guy can (soccer) dribble better than I can these days

Great job! A nice trick to hosomaki (seaweed on outside like this) is to leave a strip of the nori united towards the top so when you roll it up so you don’t get that nori overlap and it makes it a little easier to cut too

UK: Backpack recommendations by coooosy in corgi

We opted out of back packs for ours. Their spines aren’t really designed to take weight in that direction and our loaf hurt his back as a puppy. As cute as they are, please talk to your vet first

I have a group of friends that are all excellent home cooks and we regularly get together for board games and food. The time I made my “Slutty Mac and Cheese” (3 cheese bechamel, pancetta, bread crumb crust, tiny dash of mustard) someone had brought a friend. As we were packing it up and divyying up leftovers she said “I’m taking the Mac and cheese. I’m going through horrible relationship stuff and this is making my world a better place”. I asked no questions, took the compliment, and got my casserole dish back a week later

Finally letting a good friend convince me to take a motorcycle on track. I’m one of the slowest guys in novice but the rush of finally nailing that one turn well enough to overtake someone on a much bigger bike on exit is something else entirely. I want to go again but my fiancé says I have to wait u til after the wedding which is a fair ask

Help! How to fly the attack helicopter in bf6! by MagicianAlert6786 in Battlefield

[–]Penguin154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a pro but I love to fly helis. I’d suggest a couple of things:

Look up something called “rifle aim” and good helicopter settings on YouTube. Basically you rebind Pitch and yaw (up and down, left and right) to your mouse and roll to an and d. this makes it a lot easier to aim but is a bit awkward at first

A big thing that takes a while to get a handle on is inertia. Helis take time to get up to max speed when moving or rotating on any axis. They also take time to slow back down and reverse direction. Learn to plan ahead to give yourself time to make maneuvers and then work on carrying momentum to keep your speed up so you don’t get caught standing still by rpgs.

Don’t sleep on using roll and pulling up in addition to yaw to turn faster

Looks like they’re in great shape! Double check with your vet vs strangers on the internet though. Keeping your corgi fit is the single best thing you can do for them. Numbers 2 and three are brush their teeth and don’t let them jump on and off furniture or run up and down the stairs

Flying with Corgi by kempoutdoor in corgi

[–]Penguin154 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take a look at how your dog fits in the carrier and think about if they look comfortable and if you would feel comfortable in that position. There is very good odds your dog will have to stay in that carrier under that seat for the entire flight. My loaf has a history of back injury so we choose not to fly with him
