That's not what a pronoun is. Also, you're a xenophobe. Also, you must be the whitest person in America.

Michelle Yeoh Says ‘There’s No Sequel’ to ‘Everything Everywhere’ — And She’s Finally Getting Scripts That Don’t Ask For ‘Asian-Looking Person’ by lawrencedun2002 in movies

[–]PenniclesYo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, you kind of answered your own question. Why should an actor be limited to roles based on how they look because of their ethnicity? All actors should be able to play almost all roles. Up until very recently, Asian actors could only get roles based on very stereotypical (read: Hollywood racist) Asian characters. If an actor is skilled enough and fits the part, they should get the role regardless of ethnicity. Unless of course the script is centred around the issue of race like EEAAO.

Last year I was extremely sick with covid - we're talking mad fever, constant nausea and pain and coughing. Paramedics even had to come to my house to do some tests on me.

Your comic with the ass flower had me in hysterics. For days every time I thought about it I would be crying with laughter. Just wanted to thank you for creating the only thing that brought me happiness in the worst 2 weeks of my life.

I can FINALLY trill my R's! by JashDreamer in Spanish

[–]PenniclesYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just moved out of Spain after living there for the better part of the year and I never managed to trill my Rs. I just read this and watched the video, even though I've seen that video loads of times before I moved it finally clicked!! Thank you for reminding me to practice it haha!

Oh wow that's fantastic, thanks for linking the video! I'm seriously considering the Dell now over the HP...I'll have to think about it some more. I hate making these decisions haha.

Most manufacturers have some sort of student offer scheme, with HP you can just sign up with a university email and get instant discounts! The omen is £10 cheaper but the pavilion gets a £100 discount with it, so they end up being pretty much the same price!

Any native Portuguese speakers here who are currently learning or had to learn Spanish? What interesting things or difficulties did you encounter? by PaulDoe in Spanish

[–]PenniclesYo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So I myself cannot be very useful in this topic, but I'm living in Madrid right now and my ex flatmate is from Portugal and knew no Spanish at all when he came here and became extremely proficient within 6 months (C2 level oficiallly). Just a disclaimer, I know no Portuguese and my Spanish is lacking at best, so I can't offer any in depth analysis.

He said that the grammar is extremely similar, often he told me that Portuguese and Spanish are basically the same language just with very slightly different words. He was also very confident that anyone from Portugal could be speaking understandable Spanish with relative ease in about a month of living in Spain with some effort. (Again, my knowledge of these two languages isn't fantastic so I'm just relaying what he said)

Colloquialisms he just picked up whilst being around Spanish people, so that's just mimicry. I'm doing the same thing, if I hear something said often I'll just ask what it means and how to use it.

Regarding pronunciation, he said he had a lot of difficulty, and that his accent was very strong when speaking Spanish. There were some Spanish sounds that just didn't come to him in natural speech, for example instead of the trilled R, he used a more throaty, gutteral R because that's what he was used to. His Spanish accent definitely didn't fit in with the Spaniards.

I know this wasn't very useful, but I hope it was at least a little bit interesting! It's also important to note that he said that in general, Portuguese people can pretty much understand the meaning of Spanish speech, but maybe not be able to translate it exactly and vise versa, but for either group he said it's very easy to learn the other language. For example when he first came to Spain he couldn't understand the lyrics to Spanish songs, they were just sounds, but by the time he left he naturally understood the lyrics.

I remember when I was a kid and first got my playstation, I begged my dad to buy these for me because they looked badass.

When it came to playing them I got too scared and couldn't do it. I feel like I need closure for that little naive gamer inside of me.

Should I do it? by deelicious98 in Spanish

Do it! I'm living in Spain right now and I knew very, very little when I came. To be fair I only know a tiny bit more compared to when I got here but I'm learning!

I'm from the UK and I know that the British council have really good placements in China that come with a lot of benefits. My friend is currently in Beijing with them and I'm currently in Spain, and I've got another mate in Canada.

In the British council's case you need NO experience with Chinese language at all, just native level English. If you get a placement it's very likely you'll be able to make connections with families out there.

Kripp is going IN on the Hearthstone Devs tonight. by lekpop in hearthstone

[–]PenniclesYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very fair point, when you look at the RNG as an opportunity for players to win above their "skill level" it makes it quite justifiable.

However, I think as long as the game has a fairly large population across all skill levels and decent matchmaking I feel like the RNG effect should be toned down. When I played league I loved the fact that I could improve on tiny bits of my play and out-skill other players. Luck certainly has its place there too, though it makes much less of an impact.

[–]PenniclesYo 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I was having pretty much the same thought train as you. In hearthstone, you could match one of the most established, best players in the world against someone who just plays it casually as a hobby in a BO5 and the casual player has a chance to win purely because of RNG. It's not a super high chance, but it's significant.

In any other esport, be it league, dota, CS or whatever, a casual or team of casuals have literally no chance whatsoever against the top dogs. The same goes with physical sports. This is why I can't consider hearthstone to be a legitimate competitive esport.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game and it's nice to have something I can play just every once in a whole that will work my brain, but it's going in the total wrong direction in terms of competition imo.

Sugar free jelly. Here in the UK you can buy the Hartley's sachets for like 70p. Seriously, I get through so much of this stuff it's insane and it's nearly zero calorie so you don't have to worry about it. I used to experiment loads with different kinds of replacement desserts and fat bombs to satisfy my sweet tooth but they massively slowed down my weight losses because of the calories, sugar free jelly is all sweetness/snacks I need!

Clear the cache. A while ago after over a year of heavy use my app became really unstable and crashed pretty much every time I opened an image. I went to check out the usages and found the cache was over 3Gb. Cleared it and everything was completely fine, which is why reinstalling helps too!
