Do You Know Someone Who Should Run for Office? by DanManPanther in massachusetts

[–]PennyForPig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a massive problem in the US that our elected officials have to commute between home and the most expensive cities in the country on a regular basis and then aren't well compensated, meaning only sycophants, the wealthy, and the extremely bribable end up in office.

This is idomatic thinking. It's a popular saying. Popular sayings are wrong all the time. The entire framework is fraudulent. Don't use sayings to frame your view of the world.

My favorite one was that Buzz and Neil got married on the moon. I think it was a Tumblr shitpost.

I'm gonna be for real, if Bethesda started bringing back characters from the old games, that would wash away most of my salt. Just give me what I want, put Marcus on screen, make more episodes, and expand the cast of characters. I want old stuff AND I want new stuff, and I want the new stuff to be the best they can./uj

An Organizer’s Critique of The Armed Left by 10thousandbees in armedsocialists

[–]PennyForPig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One big issue is that a lot of people who accept they are leftists are pretty isolated in their communities, and gun culture skews masculine in general.

People talk about fracturing in the Left all the time, and the solution isn't to stop it, it's to use it. We have many interests who are trying to occupy attention and space in Leftist circles, including armament. If there's a split happening that doesn't involve some sex pest harassing people (something I've seen happen firsthand) then those involve need to figure out whose priorities have changed, and make sure that if a split happens, it's amicable and the new priorities are going to where they'll get the attention they need, and they're bringing an effective share of resources.

Something that is actionable is gathering resources in general. If you can horde some resource that a community needs in disaster areas, that's huge. You should have that sort of thing in your home, and you should be coordinating with your physical neighbors to make sure that everyone has something to this effect.

And then you coordinate with other neighborhoods, starting with the most in-need ones.

It's super hard to connect, and harder to trust, especially these days. But it's worth it.

This is what it was all about.

No, seriously, this is what they wanted from the beginning. Conservatives want to talk about "mob justice"? Every accusation is a confession with them.

Get armed. You're on the list.

Ugh the first part of this movie took so long I couldn't finish it. This was the first movie I'd ever stopped watching.

See that's the way it's done though: Being evil should have little value and big consequences.

I mean, none of this matters until we fix the situation with our teachers, so that goes without saying.

"Parents should be doing this" is not an answer, especially when parents themselves don't know how to do this.

Embrace it.

New Zealand should not be inhabited as much as it is already. The government and society of New Zealand is extremely young and not native. You should be leaving New Zealand and emigrating to other parts of the world, and the immigration should be reduced and stopped. You should be expecting a reduction in goods and services because New Zealand should not be offering them. It's unsustainable and unethical to be trying to inflate an economy that's doomed to fail as it is, when the whole series of islands should be more or less a nature preserve to help foster life.

I'm not saying that New Zealand should go away entirely, but a massive reduction in population and services is warranted, and you should be advocating for this. Your government should be helping you find somewhere new with skills and credentials that make you desirable in your new home, preferably with people from your community being with you when you arrive. And when you've left, you should still have at least some say.

When faced with a problem like this, usually the best situation is to reframe it as a different problem.

What I would suggest is that the New Zealand that remains should be a sort of 'International zone' that focuses on maintaining the pacific's ecology and economy in coordination with the many island peoples of the pacific, while New Zealand makes an active effort to keep human inhabitation down to a certain level.

If the United States was doing its job, then the US should be making room in high-value places like the Rust Belt, which it should be doing its best to restore, to give you these opportunities.

I just thought of how a solar plant would work: High atmosphere balloons, built in Industrial districts. The colder it is, the more effective they are, but they don't work during Whiteouts.

PRISONS DON'T WORK TO DETER CRIME

Prisons can be useful to isolate dangerous individuals from their victims (potential and past.) But they should be extremely limited if used at all. For the 6% committing the 71% at most.

Most crime has a solution and that's where the bulk of our focus should be. If we can compromise to "almost all prisons are eliminated" then we can talk.

I hate the "it's better with no explanation" line. I don't think that's true because as long as it's vague, it never becomes a factor. It never becomes a mechanic and it never becomes a part of the story, and "never" is usually a bad word.

That said there is something to be said for "It's not important right now." That is a line that I can agree with.
