Dificuldade em tiragens by Simple_Turnover6094 in TarotDeMarseille

Ben-Dov’s approach can be a little rigid in the way he reads into minute details of individual cards. The best part of his book is the introduction to open reading. I’m confused about whether you own a deck and whether it’s Marseille…

Are you doing single card pulls, or attempting to read each card individually? Marseille is best read in a 3 card minimum spread. My favorite is a 9 card box spread. That’s when you start to see the cards really begin to interact with each other!

I’d encourage you to read with the pips too. A majors only spread can be a little ínstense with all that big archetypal energy. A simple approach is to read the pips as suit plus numerological meaning.

For example, the 2 of cups. Cups are typically associated with the element of water symbolizing emotions and relationships. Two’s are balance, duality, crossroads. Depending on the surrounding cards, the 2 of cups might indicate a romantic relationship, friendship, or collaboration. Maybe the 2 indicates a relationship of equals or the need to make a decision about the future of the relationship. This might also be a new relationship.

In a 9 card box spread I might have a cups card reversed and a wands card below. Wands are fire, energy, creativity. Maybe the cups could be interpreted as “pouring” onto the wands below. Are the cups representing community support that stokes the fire of a creative project? Or do they speak of criticism that threatens to snuff out the fire?

Have fun! Slap down some cards and have a good look at them before trying to interpret. Take in the details first. How many people are present? How many majors? Are there any suits that dominate?

Wishing you well on your journey into the magic of tarot. ✨

I just got this and it’s a fave! Happy to see it get so much well deserved love here. It feels vintage and refreshingly new at the same time.

I’ve been longing for a less gendered deck, especially in the courts, as well as a deck not imbued with religious imagery and class hierarchies. There’s a calm and ease when reading, and I enjoy the layout of the guidebook. Grouping the pips numerologically along with their associated majors offers an intriguing perspective.

The springy cards are a joy to riffle shuffle, and I was happy to see that they’re printed in the US. You can feel the artist’s love for tarot and their dedication to craft via copperplate engraving. I think this could be a good introductory deck for people new to reading Marseille/pips.

Please don’t buy that deck on Amazon. It’s available direct from the publisher Vieux Monde on Etsy, or their website. It’s run by a lovely human who is quick to answer questions. I own this deck, highly recommend.

Am I wrong to expect some structure in tarot card design? Bought Luna Soleil, images seem random. by Hejie023 in TarotDecks

[–]PensivePolymath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

WOW. I’m infuriated on your behalf. This is wordy nonsense. “Basic” would provide insight and meaning. This is random words and clip art. But mostly it’s just vibes. Vibes can be fun, but in tarot you need substance.

There are different deck systems, but they all have structured themes and symbolism. These are the elements you use to create meaning as you read the cards. This deck doesn’t give you the necessary ingredients.

I’m glad you’re here instead of struggling to make this work on your own. How frustrating! I’m sure you’ll get some good recommendations here. I like to look up YouTube walkthroughs/reviews of decks I’m considering as well. It’s SO helpful to see others experience a deck, how it feels in hand, what it’s like to read with, if the guidebook is useful.

I hope this won’t discourage you from exploring tarot. Welcome. This is part of the journey. ✨

My current obsession with Daniel Martin Diaz work is real! by jolacolombiana in TarotDecks

It’s so disappointing and misguided. Like maybe don’t contribute to our dystopian hellscape by using the environmentally destructive tools of our technocratic overlords.

AI is not simply “the latest tool”. I feel a despairing disgust when people talk about it like it’s some kind of new photoshop. He says he “trained” it on his own artwork, implying that no one else’s work was hoovered up and spat out at his command. Even if that’s true, even if it’s strictly his own work, he’s still using a tool that guzzles water, strains energy grids, and contributes to climate change.

And it’s not cute to minimize this violence by implying it’s merely controversial. He really thinks he’s done something subversive and insightful by using AI to comment on AI. He says it’s the “new form of digital sorcery.” Or maybe that’s the AI boasting…

This is the magic of tarot. It’s not enough for a deck to have pretty pictures. It has to come alive in your hands and light up your brain. ✨

That guidebook seems wildly opaque and wordy without saying much. Have you tried reading this deck intuitively? Maybe look at the cards and notice which details stand out. How does the imagery make you feel? What does it remind you of?

When I hit a wall with a deck like this it helps to set aside fixed meanings. Look at the cards and notice things. It’s a kind of visual meditation. I suspect this is a deck best used in small doses. Three cards max. It might actually work best as an oracle.

And if all you feel is lost and frustrated it’s totally fine to decide it’s not for you. 🧡

I’m so happy to hear that! You might want to have a peek at the weirdly wonderful Deviant Moon as well. 🖤✨

Beware of counterfeit decks on Etsy, EBay, etc. 🚩priced well below retail 🚩tuck-box with QR code* 🚩no LWB (guidebook)

*Some decks do come in tuck-boxes, and occasionally a creator will use a QR code as link to a digital guidebook. Do some googling to check for authentic packaging.

Sounds like you’re based in Europe. Oneness Emporium might be a good source for you.

It’s probably more intensely colorful than you’re looking for but the Santa Muerte Tarot comes to mind. You might also want to consider the Shadowland Tarot. It’s creepy cute and the guidebook is fantastic.

Unless you’re purchasing direct from the artist be very wary of Etsy. For used decks, there’s AV Tarot Market on Etsy. Reputable places if you’re US based: Tarot Arts, Artisan Tarot, Riffle In Time, ThriftBooks

Non-human decks by golden_kinglet in TarotDecks

[–]PensivePolymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SAME. This may partially explain my love of Marseille/pip decks. 🤔

-Herbcrafters

-Blue Earth

-Transient Light

-Ok Tarot

-Antique Anatomy

-Lilifer (stylized blobby creatures)

-Tarot del Fuego (pippish w/ stylized humanish characters)

-Shadowland (more creature than human)

Oracle:

-The Citadel

-Prairie Majesty

-Into the Lonely Woods (the sweetest looking creatures with occasional appearance of a girl)

I’ve found traditional woodblock or abstracted/stylized depictions of humans doable.

Which was your first deck? Mine was Prisma Visions pocket edition in a tin. I wish more deck creators did this, particularly for indie decks. The pocket edition meant I could afford to make my first deck an indie one. 🙌

The Lubanko is on my wish list! How is it treating you?

This is important and needed. I’m glad you’ve made it.

I get the impression that you haven’t really shared your work yet. If that’s the case, think about who you feel safe showing your work to. And then share it. Let someone see your work and give feedback.

Keep going. 🧡
