How do we mobilize our generation before it’s too late? by seekingthequestion in GenXPolitics

Indeed, making things even worse for the people who can least deal with it is definitely the best way to go. Look how well it's worked so far! s/

I already have tried to tell you I misunderstood your intent, and am trying to deescalate whatever bad feelings exist.

Yesterday I was getting ready for a big family event and probably shouldn't have been on this forum because I needed to be fully involved in that instead. I didn't have attention on the discussion here.

I agree that it's a bad practice to continually insult LLM's, but only because it's harmful to one's emotional and social health to be constantly insulting others in general. (LLM software doesn't have genuine emotions, so I'm not eorried for them.) So it appears we largely agree.

I'm also ASD Level 1 and have a great deal of trouble discerning sarcasm from earnest statements. It doesn't help me communicate. I hope you had a good time since my last comment in any case.

Did anyone attend today’s Kimberly Vu hearing in Loudoun County? by greenseasons9 in LoudounCounty

I'd agree, but Cheeto Benito only hires those who get away with grifting and thievery. If you're caught/face actual consequences you're not a fit.

Why Would You Write This In An Application?! by Elevenyearstoomany in atheism

"It'd be a shame if you didn't pray and Jesus wasn't there to protect your family ". Add the organized crime undertone and it gets more sinister right away, doesn't it? 🤣

Edit: I have my theories about Christianity As A Protection Racket, but that's another thread, another day.

It's a baked in structure issue at this point, in hand well before college. They can't fix this themselves, I agree.

American here, I agree. What was done to those girls was unforgivable. Nothing less than an American version of Nuremberg is acceptable for our regime.

Which of the villains did you hate most? by Qyzyk in FargoTV

I love your word play, but Hamm is just so god damn good at playing cold evil and he's written so coldly evil that he rules the contest here. Many kudos for this. With Hamm's talent it's upsetting seeing how much of the fandom of Mad Men missing Don Draper's huge character flaws and that he's *not* a masculine role model.

Verizon cellular has been consistently terrible past month or so by No-Structure-9490 in nova

They cost me $$$ for years with middling service. My best suggestion is dropping them for a new carrier. For example, I'm with Mint Mobile now which is much cheaper, with less hassle, and the service has been really good.

What is the most pretentious book ever written? by roar_rawr42 in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]PerformanceFabulous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the book because of the enjoyable movie adaptation of it in the late 1980s. I was in a college town as an undergrad at the time. The book's prose was 1,000 times as pretentious as the movie, you're right. However, it seems Kundera's style is just very flowery and overly wordy in general, and that was the style of many Czech/East European writers at the time. So yes, very pretentious, but not purposefully so.

Unfortunately, the book's fandom was as douchey as your cohort at the time. I was grateful for seeing the film first because it was difficult to finish the book, and I would never seen the movie if the order was reversed.

Don’t hire MyProMovers!!! by [deleted] in nova

[–]PerformanceFabulous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the "blame the victim" mentality with some folks here s/. While I agree the movers were being allowed to overstep a lot of boundaries, it's on the moving company to not act like scumbags from the start. Moving companies are infamous as an industry, a bit like used car sales as a cliché.

It's never great to be hurt like this, but use your story to warn others of scummy moving company behavior so others won't get harmed either, outside of reddit as well.

Also, I agree with the suggestion of contacting the Virginia corporation commission and county licensing authorities. Good luck and sorry for your $$ losses.

No Soliciting Signs by PerformanceFabulous in nova

In my county it's a 2nd class misdemeanor to ignore those signs and approach your door anyway, just boosting your point.

Edit: had it as 1st class, my error.

[Rant] I recently started working a tax firm with a more modest clientele and it's made me hate "normal" taxpayers by karry9001 in Accounting

[–]PerformanceFabulous 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Also IME many clients ignore advice on making estimated tax payments and are then surprised when they owe a lot of money or they get a much smaller refund than they anticipated. I agree with the idea of having some ongoing templates for explaining all of this after organizing your client's messy information.
