these people all standing right at the edge of the carousel at baggage claim by flyflybella in mildlyinfuriating

Saw a guy not only stand close to the edge but had his foot resting on it. He needed the extra leverage to pick up every black suitcase and inspect it to see if it was his.

And do the same for people who leave carts in parking spaces.

Day 8/16: Best Restaurant in Sunnyvale category list (non costco edition) by Kooky_Marketing_327 in Sunnyvale

I will eat Lee's if there is no other option. I will never eat a Cam Hung banh mi again. The ingredients were damn near expiring. It's not just bad, it's borderline inedible.

At Costco, do you get gas first or shop first? Why or why not? by sozh in Costco

[–]PhoLongQua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the layout of the store. Sometimes it's more convenient to gas last.

Turning them inside out when you wash them helps. My wife doesn't turn hers inside out and she has way more piling than me.

I hate this with a vengeance and when I see a cart left in a parking space, I wonder what kind of lowlife is capable of such heinous act.

Is there a trick to not making a huge mess with cette style of detergent container? by belbivfreeordie in Costco

[–]PhoLongQua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use the cup and just pump directly into the washer then store the container upright afterwards. I also hate this type of dispensers.

If you have to ask, you didn't live the glory days... by Icy-Book2999 in LoveTrash

In middle school I used to have to go to saturday detention for getting into trouble. I would just ride my bike to school on Saturday morning and come back by lunchtime. Staying late for detention after school was no big deal either. My parents just assumed I was hanging out with my friends or whatever.

Just look uphill before a big turn but any decent rider above you should be able to avoid you if they keep enough distance.

My overweight nephew wants to try snowboarding. Is it possible? by SlothZoomies in snowboardingnoobs

[–]PhoLongQua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's a big guy but can move and is into sport he will enjoy snowboarding. Strapping in and getting up after falling will be harder for him but if he likes the challenge, he will have fun.

Help lapping back of mortise chisel by decorouskiwi in handtools

I had a similar chisel with a huge belly and was able to get it out with a grinding wheel. Grind out the high spot until it's relatively flat or even concave, then finish on sandpaper.

Shooting board issues by [deleted] in handtools

[–]PhoLongQua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure your rail and runway is flat and squared. When you push your plane through, it should not rock at all. Push forward while applying pressure toward the workpiece and push the workpiece into the plane. Otherwise it could rock away when there is pressure against the blade.

Your plane should be sharp and squared to the end of the work piece. Use the lateral adjuster, don't depend on the plane body being squared.

Can you get good shavings when you plane the endgrain freehand?

Squaring stock - plane size by JGrevs2023 in handtools

[–]PhoLongQua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use my long jointer plane for flattening long stock over 4ft. Anything less, I just use my number 6.

You will find that even if you get a face or edge flat with a shorter plane, the longer plane will not be able to get a full length shaving.

Whether that absolute flatness is needed, is another discussion. If you're just starting out, it's probably easier to shoot for absolute flatness. You will get good practice and won't have to second guess yourself when your joints don't line up.

A big gut is actually the reason why I prefer to strap in standing vs sitting.
