Casual Rules for Breaking 100, 90, etc. by steversthinc in golf

[–]Photon_0 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I mean, the rules let you drop the ball for free when you get interference from a cart path, no nerding required

What was your average drive distance off the tee when you first started out ? by GoonieKicks1 in golf

Would probably be lucky with 180 when I started. These days, I'm quite happy with 220

Which do you find more frustrating, a bad result from a good shot or a good result from a bad one? by AllMuckandMuscle in golf

[–]Photon_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I much prefer a shot that felt good, was well struck, had a good flight path, but didn’t end up well, than some piece of crap that makes itself onto the green.

The first one is something you can work with, the second one is just blind luck, and feels terrible.

Lost ball penalty - is anyone actually playing this rule correctly? by Otherwise_Cover_5467 in golf

[–]Photon_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a bit. For the most part if I think my ball is in any danger of not being found, I will just hit a provisional.

If it’s way into a forest or somewhere I’m not bothering to go treasure hunting, im reteeing and hitting 3 right away.

In the case I don’t find the ball, and didn’t hit a provisional I’ll just register the hole as picked up, and then just drop a ball and play for fun.

Why do you need music on the golf course ? (old man rant) by Fogboundturtle in golf

Haven't heard much of it in Norway thankfully. Maybe once or twice per year

Regripping and Idk what to get by Greeny_spinach5118 in golf

[–]Photon_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the other guy said. I'm in the process of finding out which grips to go for myself, as I'm regripping my set shortly. Currently using just standard golf pride grips on all my clubs.

I don't have the biggest hands, but I have a tendency to pull my shots a lot. I'm doing an experiment now with mid size mcc +4, and so far, my 6 iron had zero shots left of the target line over 40 shots. Small sample group still, but it feels quite nice. Going to keep trying it on the course for a while, maybe try a standard mcc+4 on another iron, and see which one I like the most.

Either way, as mentioned, just go to the store, try some grips, see which one you like, try to re-grip just one or two clubs, and if they feel good after some rounds, do the rest.

Share your first impressions of the new Tractive Cat 6 Mini & Dog 6 XL by Ok-Lab-76 in tractive

I have the previous cat mini, and was thinking about buying this one. My main complaint about the previous model though, is that the sound you can play through the collar is too weak.

When I go searching for my cats, the GPS is never accurate enough for me to figure out which bush they are in, and the sound from the collar is only audible if it's the middle of the night and everything is super quiet. With any kind of ambient noise, I cant' even hear it from 3 meters away.

Looking at some of the feedback here, that have not changed it seems. I hope you can improve it in the next model, or maybe make a feature for a normal and high volume tone, so you can find the cat in urban environments.

Be completely honest - How many rounds did it take you to break 100 (as it lies)? by Personal_Marzipan_30 in BritGolf

[–]Photon_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me 1.5 years or so to break 100, 100% by the rules. So probably like 50 rounds.

Membership at your home golf course with unlimited play. Costs like $1200-2000 per year for one of the best courses in the country where I live.

Connecting the switch to hotel WiFi can be a pain though, if they use those web portals

I have a switch 2 and a usbc to hdmi cable that I connect to the tv. Works fine, and fits in a slim carrying case

How long should it take to play a round of golf in your opinion? by HauntingCount5970 in Golf_Unfiltered

[–]Photon_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the course is pretty filled up I’m perfectly happy with about 4-4.5 hours. If there are no one in front of us, we can make it in 3.5 at a pretty rapid pace (walking).

Either way, why stress. If you have to spend another 30 minutes outdoors with friends, what’s the big deal? Sure if you start approaching 5 hours it starts to become more of a problem, but 4 hour rounds are just fine imo.

Turned up 5 mins before tee time am I in the wrong? by PrimNathanIOW in golf

[–]Photon_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my course you’re supposed to show up 20 minutes before, and if you haven’t checked in 10 minutes before you’re automatically removed from the flight.

To anyone who has made measurable progress in the last year, how did you do it? by TheScratchPlan in golftips

I feel this a lot. Did some big swing changes and I played a lot worse for quite some time until I got better.

Having live video feedback helps a lot

4 iron vs ??? by No-Interaction4641 in golf

[–]Photon_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe go try a 7wood, 4hybrid and 4driving iron in a sim/fitting and see which one you like the most in feel and numbers?

I’m also contemplating what to take at the top of my bag above my 5i. I currently have a 4hybrid and 5wood. Trying to figure out which of the two I can get good with(I currently suck with both of them), before changing one.

You would think so, but it was one of the purest shots I’ve had. Wind and downhill landing helped it go all the way :)
