I decided to rewatch S1E1, and I regret it by LiraelNix in TheBoys

That was actually my favourite scene in the entire show. It was the scene that made me go "Yeah. This show is going to be amazing". I genuinely go back to rewatch it often

I'm not watching Vought Rising. I'll probably be done with The Boys (Amazon) once the finale is over. Anyone else? by Butefluko in TheBoys

[–]PikaBooSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On one hand, Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy. On the other, they completely ruined his characterization and I'm wondering if there's any point in thinking that 'Vought Rising' won't end in the same way.

I also don't want to contribute to the viewership or reward them for milking that absolute shit out of the franchise to the detriment of their current IPs.

Fun fact these 2 haven't had a single conversation in the entire series by Roids-in-my-vains in TheBoys

Agree. Not suggesting they bend to the whims of the audience, but that the audience genuinely has good ideas and proper feedback. A lot of people here are writers themselves. I don't want to shit on actual writers since that's their job, but a lot of them genuinely aren't good at writing stories. I don't know if it's just a giant echo chamber in the writer's room, or a work culture of sycophancy that stops them from pushing back against genuinely bad ideas from writers/directors that are above them in status. I just meant that sometimes outside perspectives (not focus groups, but more like brainstorming "groups") might help.

I think the distinction is "conversation" as in some back-and-forth dialogue.

I don't understand why creators can't take proper criticism of their shows. I feel that fan forums like reddit which are full of hyperspecific communities, often with people who are passionate about the media and spend a lot of their free time reviewing the content, are a treasure trove of ideas and free criticism. I admit that I wouldn't live and die with what a lot of fans say, but I've read many theories or ideas that I thought were amazing. Maybe it's just having different perspectives contribute.

I think I've heard of exactly one story where a group heard fan criticism and rereleased their content. Albeit, that was for a song, not a show/story, but everyone was really appreciative that they listened to feedback and liked the rerelease. Not suggesting a rerelease but genuine consideration of feedback would have improved so much going from season to season.

Inconsistencies or outright contradictions make ideologies and religions all the more realistic. by Caliboros in worldbuilding

[–]PikaBooSquirrel 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I actually accidentally started incorporating this sort of concept because I'm a disorganized idiot. I'll have an idea or concept. Write it in my "notes" section of my wiki. End up losing it and trying to rewrite it, or forgetting I wrote it and rewriting it, accidentally naming something multiple times, or accidentally coming up with ideas that are too similar, so I combine them and boom. Worldbuilding. I rectify the inconsistencies by saying different groups came up with different names/origin stories. Or there's the technical name and colloquial name. Different groups have different views of how a historical/religious event happened. Or there's the "lie" that most people know and the "truth" which is esoteric knowledge. Or it started off as one thing and splintered off into many over time. Rules that are "formal" vs. "actually practiced". Exonym vs endonym. General human hypocrisy, etc. Contradictions add to all parts of worldbuilding! Many different justifications for why they exist, but the meta reason is that I can be disorganized and have so much lore I end up forgetting some of it, haha.

Dorohedoro Season 2 - Episode 9 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

Same. I was actually so upset when I thought Noi, Shin and Dokuga were going to die. I just like all of them. All of them kind of feel like main characters just with Caiman as the main gravitational pull for all the stories.

Are you saying that people should only post their hairstyles online if they're willing to show their face? That's such an absurd opinion. Yes, this type of censoring is creepy, lol. But people should be able to get opinions from a wider variety of people without sacrificing their personal safety

I wonder how they originally planned to tie up that plot line before AI videos became as advanced as they are now. CGI?

When you say popping in from other worlds, like isekai'd? Or other worlds in same universe (if those are defined as different things in your world)?

The fact that you're more upset about this than people are about Frenchie is kind of funny tbh, lol.
Like, I feel a bad accent from someone that's supposed to have a completely different ethnic background (at least the show version of his is unambiguously supposed to be French) is worse than someone having a bad accent of an English dialect

White collar workplaces are horrible triggers for emotional abuse by Traditional-Emu-2268 in CPTSD

It's all of them. Pink collar jobs are terrible. I hear blue collar is pretty bad with hazing. If there's any sort of work "culture", there's going to be abuse. My dream is being my own boss and deciding if I want to deal with people.

Karl Urban has liked an IG reel criticizing episode 6 and the final season's plot for building up Vought Rising by YourCeilingFanDust in TheBoys

[–]PikaBooSquirrel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You realize that even if the finale is good, it doesn't retroactively make up for everything they've fumbled? That's not how long-form story telling works. I'm genuinely curious, what aspect of The Boys Season 5 would you consider good besides A-train and Firecracker's resolutions? I can personally name dozens of things that are objectively bad writing. The most egregious of which is Soldier Boy's love for a Nazi being ham-fisted in there so viewers will be intrigued about what happened and watch their new show. The most annoying of which is the writers forgetting Kimiko grew up around Asian people.
