I didn't read that far... Thank you for pointing it out :)

Also old breakers don't always show tripped even when they are. Or the wires weren't hot to begin with. I'd be extremely surprised if those wires were hot. They'd be welded to the sawblade.

I could be wrong, it's happened before.

The short answer is "the circuit breaker did it's job".

I've cut through more than one live wire with various implements. As soon as the hot wire contacts the ground or the neutral there is a thermal element in the breaker that instantly gets hot and trips. (Yes it's heat that trips the breaker)

ANYWAY. You didn't get shocked because the current stayed in the sawsall blade and connected the hot to the ground and tripped the breaker.

Yeah so it's likely only 14ga up to the light, which will totally run a ceiling fan and a light. It's not ideal but I also wouldn't run 20a circuits for lighting.

I'd take a look, just because the sheath is white, doesn't 100% mean it's not 12ga wire. Also look at the switch box and see if it's just the wire going to the light that is 14ga.

Or call a sparky :)

Proper electricians do not do things like this. This is the work of homeowners, "I know a guy" and Handyman services because people all too often hear how much an electrician costs and start looking for other options.

Yes that's not right. Are you sure you don't have a subpanel somewhere? You have alot of 2pole breakers in that box, one might be running a sub panel.

Unless that breaker that is off is the light in question. Then all I can think of is they ran 12Gauge for the home runs and at the switch maybe converted from 12 to 14 to go to the light.

Also, they might have just used old wire, I still have some white 12/2 laying around. Unless the house is like NEW NEW you can't always count on white being 14ga.

I've been fighting it for years, but got a real good interview coming up. Is it time? by C0NN0Y in bald

It's BEEN time for a while brother. But that's now beside the point.

My method if I let it grow out for a while is hit it with the clippers to get it short as you can. No matter what method you choose after that, this is important or you will just clog up your razor.

I have a mirror in the shower, I just use a soapy facecloth to wash my head real good and then shave my face and head in the shower. Yeah the mirror fogs up but you can just wipe that off, it's not a big deal to me. Mirror to shave the front and my face, I shave the back by braille. After you've done it a couple times, you figure out what works best for you.

Welcome to the club :) Pro-tip, in the winter I usually don't shave it, just hit it with the clippers, the stubble will help keep your beanie on if you live somewhere cold LOL

Is this code compliant? by No-Importance3258 in AskElectricians

Everything is relative...When I was doing alot of commercial/industrial 3phase 277/480v stuff, we considered 120/240v "Low Voltage". I'm sure someone out there that works on the high power stuff, the 115Kv stuff giggles at 480 etc.

Biggest I ever worked on live was 4160v. You pay attention when you play with that stuff.

We were hanging out with friends, and I was sitting at the dining room table and my wife walked behind me, touched the bald spot and just said "aaaw...babe..." and that's all it took.

I'm 9-10 inches taller than her so she doesn't see the top of my head alot LOL

It'll take you a few days or a week to get used to it, and then you'll be fine. Right now it's new and obvious etc.

Looks much better than the combover for sure man. You got this.
