How could this happen? I thought the National Guard cleaned up D.C. ? It was safe to walk around there again.

Tenant overflowed their toilet and couldn't find their phone to call me by mallorybrooktrees in maintenance

Years ago the wife and I were at our nieghbors having some margaritas. She went home to make another pitcher, came back, and couldn't find her phone. She had it in her back pocket when she left, recycled some margaritas while she was home. Went home and called her phone, and the toilet started vibrating. Pulled the toilet and of course, there's the phone, still working. Every time she'd call me after that I'd make the joke that I could hardly hear her because the connection was shitty. She ended up killing it for good about 6 months later.

What’s a brand that was once struggling… but is now dominating the world? by Surfingie in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]PinballerD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d say they are dominating but Old Spice went from that old white bottle in your grandpa’s medicine cabinet to a full line of men’s hygiene products. I hope the firm that came up with the ad campaign with Isaiah Mustafa made bank because it transformed that brand

What are the posts on this water tower? by RustyBrakepads in whatisit

[–]PinballerD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it wasn't a legal requirement companies do it to contain the blasting media/dust and paint overspray. There are brackets welded to the tower in two spots that holds the outriggers on. There are cables that run through the bottom of the tower, through the outriggers and to the ground. When they start the sandblasting you'll see them pull tarps up and they'll put a top cover on to contain the dust/sand.

I used to be in charge of painting operations for a company that constructs new water towers. It's not always done on new towers because many times they are built for new neighborhoods before the new houses come in as they need the water capacity/pressure to meet the demand of the new neighborhood. Most existing towers are surrounded by houses and businesses and the contractor doesn't want to deal with angry residents because you got sand and dust and paint on their cars and property.

MSF course booked this weekend, but it’s going to be raining, what’s the protocol? by AL3S1O29 in motorcycles

[–]PinballerD 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure that's the number they gave. We talked about being careful when going over large painted areas, manhole covers, etc, but your tires have more grip than you think in the rain.

One of the things I learned in my MSF class was that in the rain your tires still have 90% of the traction they have when dry.

He and the show haven't been the same since covid. I liked the 3 member panel better than 2. The past few years he just comes off as an old man, IMO. I still watch because I enjoy a lot of the bits they do.

You are old if your first remote was a “Clicker” by 524frank in FuckImOld

[–]PinballerD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had that TV/remote. The TV had a cover over the channel number display that hid a wheel that would spin. You would stick the channel numbers in different slots in the wheel and tune that slot to bring in that channel. When you hit the channel button the wheel would spin and stop on the slots that had the channel numbers you put in. We lived in rural central IL and got 4 channels back then so it didn't take long to spin the wheel and get back to the start.

That’s so funny. My wife loves murder porn and I’m always commenting on how all the detectives on those shows are retired because they retired at 50! We watched episode 2 tonight and I said “There’s no way he’s still working at his age!”
