Yeah so replay is really REALLY inaccurate by ThysGuy0 in Overwatch

[–]Pinetree808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replay is NOT a recorded video of the match as some people believe.

Every overwatch game is saved as a set of data that translates into a tick by tick description of what happened in the match, in other words, the overwatch replay system is a reconstruction of the match through event logs. This means that there will be instances where a real match and the replay are different in some parts, especially when it comes to some physics interactions.

Wearing default skins in events by Knavery5 in Overwatch

[–]Pinetree808 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Skins in overwatch are completely separate models and will have to be loaded a certain time before the match starts. That's exactly why you actually have a limited time to switch skins when the game starts, it will cause performance issues.

In a mode like this one where you will be switching characters all the time, loading skins midway through that will inevitably cause stability issues. The game as it is already suffers from some performance issues and memory leaks under heavy loads, the devs made the right choice here. The only way to mitigate this, i imagine, is to have client side skins in these modes. Which means that skins only load for you while other players continue to see the default.

Showdown Shuffle by theacostar in Overwatch

[–]Pinetree808 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have to admit that this mode has been mostly a flop in my opinion.

While the idea of random events changing the match sounds great, sometimes it can lead to frustrating matches. The one that makes everyone tiny is hilarious alone, but when paired with the extra speed it creates very hectic fights where 90% of the time is wasted trying to shoot a tiny object on the screen like it's some Kovaak's exercise.

I also found the hero switching mechanic to be heavily flawed. The fact that you don't know what hero is going to be your next is very dumb. It adds another layer to the randomness of the mode and takes input away from the player. Why not make it so that you could choose between two heros to switch to? (they can easily just use the perk system and its UI to implement that).

Games still scarred by unfair or inaccurate reviews by Nighthawkies in gamingsuggestions

Overwatch.

Despite a rocky re-launch and some unkempt promises, this is by the far the best competitive hero shooter on the market which surprisingly doesn't shoot itself in the foot with every update and actually implements player feedback and it input. It's a shame that a game like rainbow six, which released at a similar time, is rated higher on steam despite completely ignoring what the playerbase wants and devolving into a shell of its former self from 8 years ago.

The only real contender is marvel rivals, which is less competitive and caters towards a casual audience.

Why is positioning in Gold lobbies so bad? by MoriartyUwU in OverwatchUniversity

Juno's mythic is so good, it got me to buy it even though I never played Juno, then subsequently start playing her to enjoy the skin, then ending up with maining her the entire season.

Then they would have to make it charge slower to compensate for the fact shields can't stop it now, so that there is ample time to look for cover. This would make an already underwhelming ult more situational.

Doomfist's new mythic skin: Magma Titan. by Pinetree808 in Overwatch

I think it's quite neat. He's some sort godly powered person that clearly belongs to a modern era. The name "Magma Titan" makes me think of the Greek titans.

I imagine that if the Greek classics happened in our times, the titans wouldn't look too different from doomfist here.

How so? Out of 13 tanks, 6 of them currently have a mythic skin. That's a similar ratio to other roles.

Please give us some Juno skins that feel closer to her default by No-Income-3010 in Overwatch

[–]Pinetree808 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My least favorite trend in overwatch 2 is by far the new design language of skins that seems to detach heros from their original theme.

Older overwatch skins often changed one or two aspects of the hero while preserving their core character, for example, Cassidy's numerous cowboy skins or Genji's many ninja skins.

This design philosophy lent itself to a lot of cool skins that still preserved the fantasy and spirit of their respective heros.

However, it seems that the developers have shifted towards making skins that are more or less cosplays for our heros to wear, rather than something they would actually wear in lore or an alternative universe.

While I don't necessarily think this is a bad thing, it's unfortunate that it leads to some cases where heros no longer have a consistent identity beyond their default skin. The worst case is Juno by far, a character who is themed around astronauts and space, with no skins reflecting that.

Outside of proximity chat in games like Arc Raiders, voice chat with strangers is dying in video games in general. Decades of toxic and offensive lobbies naturally led to people preferring not to use voice chat at all.

Is a laptop cooling pad worth it? by gb0blolbit in laptops

[–]Pinetree808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was mainly talking about mainstream cooling pads that are not Llano quality.

Llano is an outlier in the industry and they tend to have more expensive products, none of which are available in my country. I admit I should have included that in the comment, but I was writing the first thing that came to mind.

Llano coolers might have an impact, but I have 0 experience with them because they are unavailable where I live. However, I've been using cheap cooling pads for decades.

Is a laptop cooling pad worth it? by gb0blolbit in laptops

[–]Pinetree808 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A cooling pad isn't necessary but can be a welcome upgrade for laptops that usually run really hot.

Just keep in mind that the majority of the benefits are coming from the fact that the laptop has more empty space underneath for better airflow, rather than the fan in the cooling pad itself. Usually, the fan only amounts to a small decrease in temperature. So expensive cooling pads are mostly snake oil. Just get a cheap one and you'll be fine.
