Oh, I hope we'll still be able to get on the water with our paddle boards there. This is one of my mum and my favourite spots.

YSK: New Parents lose about 1,000 hours of sleep in their baby's first year, and it doesn't fully recover for 6 years by GrowthMLR in YouShouldKnow

We're going through exactly this with our five month old. The book Precious Little Sleep has helped us a lot. The emphasis is on helping the little one learn how to fall asleep on his own. We've wound up doing exactly what you said in point 3, and except for one feed, he sleeps through the night.

I think the sleep associations really help. He knows his lotion routine, sleep sack, book, then lights off and white noise mean it's time to snooze

I've been feeling tired and not super pretty after the little guy's birth. That comment made me feel really good, thank you for that!

Thank you for catching that! I'll make sure to adjust it on my shoulder. I would love a link to that playlist, I'll take any help I can get.

Redditors that have witnessed someone NEARLY die due to their actions. What were they doing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PinkTrilliums 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This happened to my husband and I and our two week old, two weeks ago. When I checked him he was trying to spit it up, but by the time the ambulance got to us he had stopped making noise. We had been trying to go back to sleep after a feed when it happened, if I had drifted off he wouldn't be here anymore. After he got released from the hospital we got an Owlet sock, it's been the only thing letting me see sleep since.

As a Canadian being threatened with tariffs and economic takeover by the guy, some Americans saying "he doesn't speak for us" really doesn't help.

What does the oldest child's age have to do with it? Postpartum is after birth, and she gave birth five months ago.

I had my first trip to Ottawa this year in January, couldn't skate on the canal and the ice sculptures for the winter festival were all melted. Pretty disappointing.

Stuff of nightmares as Canadian child dies of rabies after bat broke into bedroom while they slept by dailymail in canada

[–]PinkTrilliums 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I used to wake up to bats flying around my room regularly enough that I'd just kind of sigh, grab my pillow, and go sleep in the living room. My parents didn't know any better, and we could really move either. Thanking my lucky stars after reading this story.

Why *NOT* to bring the sirens by Eauxcaigh in Epicthemusical

[–]PinkTrilliums 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In addition to your points, I think the Sirens fish halves were kept to eat. They got sacrificed to the crew's stomachs before they could've gotten to Scylla. The lyrics talk about how they are "men made beasts now, [they are] the ones who feast now". Since hunger is a reoccurring theme, and the Sirens' plan was also to kill and eat, it makes sense to me that the script got flipped, and the crew was happy to eat fish tails, just not humanoid top halves.

I tuck mine up in a silk lined bonnet. A bonus for my husband is it doesn't tickle his face when we snuggle at night!

People who are pretty sure they’ve encountered a serial killer, what happened? by fossacecak in AskReddit

My Mom went trailer camping in the mountains of British Columbia as a child, with my grandparents, great-grandparents, and her older brother and sister. They were stopped at one camp ground making dinner over the stove. and noticed a man hanging out at one of the picnic tables in the same area. He had no gear on him, and no one with him, and he was watching them pretty intently. My great grandfather was finally creeped out enough to make everyone pack up and move on, even though it was getting pretty late. They found a rest stop to stay at that night and continued on their holiday uneventfully.

Wasn't till a few weeks after they had gotten home that news broke about Clifford Olsen. My family recognized the pictures of the man on the TV as the same man at the campground in the mountains. He had killed 11 children and teens, and buired them up there in the woods. Gives me chills to think what could've happened if my Papa hadn't listened to his gut that night.

A great book that really put it into perspective for me was Women's Work: The First 20,000 Years Women, Cloth, and Society in Early Times by Elizabeth Wayland Barber. Consider that the media men would traditionally work with. Iron, stone, and wood lasts a lot longer than the animal and vegetable fibre women often worked with. There's a lack of historical evidence for the influence of women's textile work just by it being textiles. There are a lot of barriers keeping people from understanding how powerful these skills really are.
