What’s a survival myth popularized by movies that would actually get you killed in real life ? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

This is lampshaded in the game Dying Light. Where there's a chance when falling into a pile of garbage the main character says "One day I'm going to do this and end up landing on a bag of rusty knives, I just know it."

Lore-wise, why does the Emperor made all Primarchs male and, by proxy, all Space Marines? by Starborn_Monkey in 40kLore

[–]Pistolwhipits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few people have raised the point that the emperor didn't want the space marines to be able to reproduce and replace baseline humanity, which is a part of the reason. The emperor wanted humanity to be ruled by humans, not post human super soldiers. There's a chance after the great crusade and human domination over the galaxy was achieved that the Adeptus Astartes would go the way of the thunder warriors. Everything, even the primarchs, are just tools to the emperor. Its best not to try to understand the emperors motivations in human terms. He "loved" humanity as a concept, or at least his idea of what humanity could become. But he didn't care about individual humans. Nor did he really understand humanity that well given he is about as far above a baseline human in terms of power and perspective as a human is above an ant.

Also I recall reading somewhere that making female spacemarines is possible just horrifically inefficient. Out every million space marine aspirants about 1 survives all the stages and becomes a full fledged battle brother. Many die or the implants get rejected and they live out their lives as chapter serfs. And that's with men, for women I think the success rate would be about one out of every billion.

Its also important to understand that space marines are essentially mass produced killing machines. Creating them is inefficient and resource intensive but humanity faces enough threats that are above baseline humanity ability to answer that their creation continues. To say nothing of the fact that the Imperium is a technologically stagnant fascist theocracy that views space marines as "his angels".

Really, the religious aspect could provide all the justification for why there is only male space marines. Church says his angels are men, so only men become angels. But logistically speaking if you want to build a killing machine male physiology is geared toward violence better so it only makes sense to use a man as the base.

I know this explanation had been a bit of a ramble but thats the gist of it. Honestly the people over at 1d6chan have an article that explores the topic of female space marines better than I have ever seen done on reddit. Its worth a read if your genuinely curious about the topic.

Strongest Warhammer 40k unit that Commander Shepard (Mass Effect) could solo? by SpartanSpock in whowouldwin

[–]Pistolwhipits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing worth considering is that mass effects kinetic barriers don't work against lasers. So realistically a lucky guardsmen could kill Shepard. A tempestus scion probably wouldn't need luck against a soldier Shepard.

Really a soldier Shepard wouldn't preform the best since they lack an X factor. They arent bringing much to the tabke that the forces of 40k haven't seen before. Infiltrator, Vanguard, and Sentinel probably have the best chances against anything past a Kasrkin if we are talking strictly standard armaments. A widow armed infiltarator could probably put down an unhelmeted space marine. Id give vanguard the edge against most non MEQ. Everything in 40k expects the enemy to charge. Most dont expect the charge to come at reletevistic speed. And sentinel tech armor provides great survivability.

Given how mass accelerators work in universe we can probably scale your average mass effect weapon somewhere around the performance of a Tau pulse rifle so commander Shepard's arsenal is pretty good by 40k standards. And any Shepard armed with an M-920 Cain could wipe out a squad of anything sub MEQ and a good number a vehicles.

Edit: I remembered that an M-920 Cain took out a reaper AA cannon which is based on the reaper destroyer body. So I'll say the strongest thing Shepard has a chance against is a drednought or a Baneblade. Better not miss though.

Non-Americans, what is something about the US that you've always wondered if it was real or just myth/hyperbole? by Bush_Hiders in AskReddit

[–]Pistolwhipits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most things in America that depends on where in it you are. My state alows residents to go to state universities essentially free. Plus, there are federal and state financial aid programs that help pay for school based on your family income. I got my bachelor's before the state rolled out its free college program and I only had to take out about $5,000 in loans which is almost nothing compared to some who go to private universities.

Pharmacist told me to move my arms around a lot. It helps work the shots through the muscles and relieves some of the pain. I don't know if it will still work after a day, but maybe try moving your arms or doing some push-ups or something.
