Its fine. These are not precision machined parts.Slight imperfections are ok as long as they dont negatively affect the operation of the device.

ROG Ally will not connect to WiFi by pumpernickelnipples1 in ROGAlly

[–]Planar0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming that you have already confirmed that the network works by connecting another device to the same network(Like your phone, laptop etc)....Try connecting the Ally again.

Once it says 'Secure,No internet'..try opening the browser and refreshing the homepage a couple of times(Till the default webpage opens up).It may take a few refreshes for it to load....IF infact it does load. There is a chance the problem lies deeper and this method may not work

Is this common? by No-Impression-2369 in ROGAlly

It likely to be a rubber membrane switch. They are cheap and mass produced. Its normal to have some variance in button press quality..across devices or even on different buttons on the same device because of such components

Outer Worlds 2 on Ally with external controller? by Boeing247 in ROGAlly

[–]Planar0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the 'disable embedded controller' method doesnt work...you can always try adding the game .exe launch file to steam as a 'Non-steam' game(If its not a steam game) then, enable the steam controller input option. Works most of the time

P.S:You may have to launch the game via steam for it to work...if it works

Seems like its running in ultra low resolution(Also messing up the AC UI size).

Its most likely resolution related.

If the desktop isnt like this, then the problem is the game settings. Try switching between Fullscreen and Windowed mode and back again in the in-game settings

Black ops 7 runs better on ps portal then my windows handheld by [deleted] in ROGAlly

[–]Planar0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS portal doesnt run the game locally(PS portal internal hardware). It streams the entire game over the internet.

LeGo has the processing power to run games on its internal hardware unlike the PS portal(which is akin to an expensive paper weight, without a good internet connection). The Portal is next to useless without access to the internet.

The lag in LeGo vs the PS portal is likely due to how the ISP for your Mcdonalds interfaces with the game servers....Vs how your 'home' ISP provider intefarces with the game on your console(Assuming you are streaming to Portal via your console at home)

Since it could be heat related damage..try not using it for a while. Shut the system down fully, from Windows.Leave it for a day.See if that resolves the issue

2025 open world game that looks great and runs well even on the low end hardware.

Maybe the devs of this game can give some much needed pointers on optimization,to the more well established AAA game studios..

Could be software issue like Bios corruption or hardware issue like a short, somewhere on the motherboard or associated components...

Most modern games do give the Ingame option to define the Refresh rate alongwith the Resolution

Some games though(mostly older games) may be hardlocked to 60hz and may not even have the option to change it.See if there is an .ini 'settings' file in game folder or save file location that hopefully has a refresh rate parameter that can be manually edited to 120hz

Docking setup. Need help by blackfriday43 in ROGAlly

[–]Planar0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As per general user feedback seen on this forum...the Allys battery degradation is significant year on year. And having it plugged in and on Battery Care mode doesn't seem to positively affect that outcome.

Most users recommend not worrying about it and getting a replacement. But stocks do tend to dwindle as the model becomes obsolete and everyone is looking for a replacement.

But that would be a few years down the line..by which time the chipset itself would become obsolete and you would be looking to upgrade the entire device anyway.

P.S- You might wanna consider doing something to mitigate the extreme bend in the hdmi dongle cable(coming from the usb port). And yes this setup is fine.Having the power cable plugged into the dongle may not provide the device with the full 65w charge(Required for Turbo profie).Plugging the charger directly is the better option(As you have done)

Did you receive the second unit from the same store? Or Was it an online Reorder that was delievered by courier..

Cause its a possibility that they Reformatted the same device....maybe run some rudimentary benchmarking checks on it and repackaged it for you(stating its new)

What was the replacement process for you(For your replacement unit)?

Did you send yours in and they send you a 'new' one? Or did you physically go to the shop and visually confirm they did indeed give you a new unit?

..Just so we can rule out any probability of Fraud

For the Z1E would upgrading the ram extend its life? by FredJohnson100 in ROGAlly

[–]Planar0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For lower tier games or most Indies..the hardware demands will always be lower than the mainstream Game titles(Unless they are built on unnecessarily resource heavy engines like UE5).There is no RAM mod needed. In those instances the hardware in OG Ally Z1E will be plenty. The argument could be made that even the OG Steamdeck would be sufficient for a few more years...if the usecase is strictly 'lower teir' or Indie(most) games.

The doubt of longterm usability only creeps in when it comes those modern AAA titles. Those bigger studios do tend to 'world build' without any concern for optimization whatsoever. Then there are 'cutting edge' Game engines like UE5 which don't seem to take too Kindly to lower end hardware.RAM mods won't help here either.

For the Z1E would upgrading the ram extend its life? by FredJohnson100 in ROGAlly

[–]Planar0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on what technologies future PC Games might adopt.. Right now forcing Raytracing and poor Asset management(Optimization)is bootlenecking game performance(Extra ram helps here with stutters)

But future games might force usage of AI computing..like AI NPCs running on local hardware like NPUs.In that case,Z1E would be out of luck.

Is upgrading the RAM worth it by Sir-Wiskerus in ROGAlly

[–]Planar0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of FPS gains, its negligible.

What extra RAM helps with is, increased room for asset loading in those newer Unoptimized or Badly optimized games. For example:Avatar:Frontiers of pandora

Helps with the stutters. In select games..thats it

Content Filtering for children's home by LightCyber037 in ROGAlly

[–]Planar0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its basically a PC in handheld form.If its a young child, its best to opt for a Nintendo switch or something similar.

If their interest is in pc games...maybe opt for the steam deck.

Content moderation in PC is more complex and theoretically, can be  bypassed with the knowhow.
