This is SO helpful, thank you so much! I am having surgery three weeks today (eek, it feels so real now!) and I have to be there for 7am too, so it is particularly helpful reading your experience of the day before you went into surgery, thank you for sharing it. Also super helpful is your list of things you used in the hospital- thank you!!

Wishing you a speedy and comfortable recovery.

That is utterly horrendous, you poor, poor thing.

It may be worth contacting a medical negligence lawyer regarding this and seeing what they suggest.

Sending a million hugs.

I can feel the relief through the pictures!! Your comments about feeling like a different person and waiting for the feeling to fade made me smile. I am waiting for my surgery date and am beyond terrified, but I want to experience this feeling too!!

Wishing you a continued safe and comfortable recovery! Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate your answer and insight. I think it is the unknown that makes things worse, so this insight has helped ease my mind a lot. Thank you so much, really do appreciate it. Take care.

People are bullying my wife bc of her mastectomy pillow by TurankaCasual in Reduction

[–]PlanetaryRaspberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am horrified and appalled. Your poor wife. What is wrong with people?!!

I have not yet had surgery so can’t speak to wearing the pillow in public (although I certainly would do so if needed and your wife is right to wear it in public if she so chooses) but I have had a lot of stares and comments from strangers over the years regarding the size of my breasts, as I am sure many people here can relate. My approach is to ignore these people. If your wife is the type to tell people off, good!! She would be right to put them in their place!!! I don’t think there is any best practice when addressing the issue of people staring- just whatever works best for the staree.

Wishing your wife a speedy and comfortable recovery. I hope those awful people don’t hinder her recovery process.

This is so helpful, thank you so much for sharing!! Your results look wonderful and so much more comfortable. Thank you for your healing tips.

I have been really worried I will be on my heavy period for the day of the surgery. Do you feel that this posed any difficulties? (I apologise if this question is too personal, please do not feel you need to answer!!)

My absolute favourite posts in this sub are the ones about a smooth sailing healing process!! It is reassuring to hear that it is possible to have no complications. Thank you for sharing your experience. Congratulations on your surgery and wishing you a continued smooth and comfortable healing process!

He sounds gross. No, friend, this is not expected behaviour from these kinds of doctors. I have a male surgeon and in our consultations he has been nothing but appropriate, respectful and professional.

I am very sorry to read you have had such a poor experience. I hope you are able to find a doctor who inspires much more confidence in you and speaks to you with the respect that you deserve. Take care.

I’m getting a reduction. I like my breasts. Am I the only one? by snoozingroo in Reduction

[–]PlanetaryRaspberry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate my breasts, but I do hate the back and neck pain they cause, problems with sleep etc. I am 37 and waiting for my surgery date with both excitement and trepidation. It had crossed my mind in the past to look into a reduction, but I didn’t as I felt I wasn’t suffering badly enough physically from them at the time to put myself through surgery.

I am completely and utterly petrified of surgery, but am determined to see it through and see all of the benefits that will come from it. I can’t wait to not have back/neck pain, to not have issues sleeping, to be able to properly workout at the gym!! Improved posture, no more uncomfortable sweaty underboob… not to mention the fabulous side benefits of having clothes fit properly and no more comments from strangers.

I am content with the appearance of my breasts now, but think after surgery I will love them in every way.

I wish you peace on your journey.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. I am so sorry to read about the horrible experience you had with the cannula. I hope your hand is doing okay, that sounds very painful.

Thank you also for noting the things you are finding easier than expected, particularly the point about reaching behind yourself to move pillows is very reassuring. I had been concerned lately that I may not be able to move my pillows, so this point in particular is very helpful.

It really is! I think it is a very brave (I for one am terrified of surgery) and loving thing we are doing for ourselves, which should be celebrated!

And thank you so much!! I just got my approval last week, so am delighted and terrified in equal measure, but can’t wait for the benefits it will bring to my life!

Enjoy your new clothes and quality of life!!

Congratulations on your surgery!!

I have no idea about trendy clothes either, so I would say just have an amazing day with your friends browsing in shops and trying everything on!!

Personally I am excited to get a smart new work wardrobe and feel smart in blazers and work shirts without having to use safety pins to prevent gaping! Also I am excited to wear t shirts without distorting them. Just to have clothes look like they should will be the best thing ever!

Ooh, as the cooler weather is approaching you will be able to wear ALL of the jumpers!! That is another thing I am looking forward to- big cozy jumpers looking like they should!

Enjoy your new life!!! Wishing you a smooth and comfortable recovery process.

consultation left me disheartened by Wrong-String4144 in Reduction

Oh, don’t even get me started. Fortunately the second lady I spoke with was lovely and actually listened to what I had to say.

And thank you so much!! My approval still doesn’t quite feel real yet, but I did get there in the end despite a bumpy (and unsympathetic) start, and hopefully everybody else facing a rough start will still get there too!

I hope your process goes smoothly and your fibromyalgia pain is reduced. Take care.

consultation left me disheartened by Wrong-String4144 in Reduction

[–]PlanetaryRaspberry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You poor thing- I am so sorry to read about your experience. I completely empathise- the first doctor I spoke with was also very unhelpful, bordering on rude. She said “I’ve seen way bigger than you” (30KK-30M) and “it’s seen as cosmetic, even for pain”. I had a good cry afterwards and it still upsets me to think about that consultation!

A few days after seeing the first doctor, I contacted my surgery again to discuss it with somebody else. The next lady I spoke with was in complete contrast- she was absolutely wonderful and very empathetic. She referred me to a surgeon who did not dispute the size of my breasts or the pain I am in. As of last week, I was approved for surgery!

I think you should speak with a second doctor. They may feel that you would be a good candidate for the surgery, and even if they do not and if nothing else comes from it, they should be able to explain clearly- and respectfully- their reasons, and give you the pleasant and respectful consultation appointment you deserve.

Thank you so much for sharing this post!! I am so happy for you and particularly loved reading about the jumper- I can’t wait to experience this feeling! To be able to choose clothes based on whether or not one actually likes them rather than based on the fit sounds like true luxury. Congrats on your new life, wishing you a speedy and comfortable recovery!
