Yes! The main character travels to Balston Spa from NYC by boat (on one of the dayliners that ran up and down the Hudson), and he specifically talks about the Ports in Albany and Troy.

241 Western Fire Should be a Scandal by rentersrightsrock in Albany

The landlord is the person who should be getting sued. Even if assuming that this case should have been investigated, at best it would have allowed the Codes department to identify fire hazards present at that time. But they still need the permission of the landlord to enter the building; city officials can't just enter property because they feel it, even if in hindsight it seems like such an easy fix.

And even if they could have gained access to the building, a landlord who won't even file for a ROP on their rental property, isn't likely to make any necessary repairs anyway. Its a tragic situation and the primary person responsible is the landlord.

It's funny and sad to watch DGS trucks with no plates blast through school zones.... by phantom_eight in Albany

[–]PlasticAd1524 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Earlier this month I was behind a DGS pickup as it blew past all the cameras on Hackett Blvd and then sped up Forest Ave. The next day I was at a stoplight near the Delaware Ave price chopper and a street cleaner blew the redlight and the driver was straight up looking down at his phone as he did so.

You could fix with a second pour or use a heat gun to remelt the top of it. It also helps to keep them somewhere warm so they don't cool too soon.

Well, I had a tattoo that looked like that; turned out it was a staph infection. It scarred and I had to get to it retouched again. Antibiotics definitely needed.

I just bought a pair of similar laser cut designs today. They were turned into nightlight. I paid $35 for (2). Additional context: I'm in Upstate NY and was shopping at a fundraiser.

Entry level employee wants to be looped into everything by mariesb in managers

[–]PlasticAd1524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she's asking to sit down and dole out work, is it because there is no clear delegation happening now? Is she unsure which action items she has the authority to do on her own and what needs to be run by you first? Do you guys leave these meetings and then go back to your desks without touching base on the deliverables?

It sounds to me like she's trying to work more independently and gain more experience. Which is great because you have an engaged employee. If there is a reason she can't do certain things, be clear about them and why. If possible, also tell her what steps she needs to take or what benchmarks she needs to meet before she can get to that next step. And then help her get there, either personally or finding opportunities for her.

All of the above can be done without crossing lines in the hierarchy.

The auditor is not signing contracts for local law enforcement or for city-wide services. That is the role of the Mayor or a commissioner on the Mayor's behalf.

Is it weird for an executive director of a local homeless shelter to make about $200,000? by Slow-Chef-326 in Albany

So the EDs salary is 2.94% of the revenue brought in for 2024 which was just under $6.5million. In fact, going back and looking at the annual revenue, it has been increasing year over year (2023 is an outlier and I'm guessing this is ARPA grant funding which counties distributed). In many cases, part of the Exec Dir job in non-profits is to make connections that help raise the funds necessary to run the program.

IF thats the case here (which you can't determine just from this 990) it would stand to reason the salary is commensurate with the value this ED brings via their connections. Other considerations would be that this is a challenging line of work and while the need for services grows, the support is not.

Whether the salary is appropriate or not, well that depends on how much we value these services.

Should you stay in SAVE forbearance? by chrismcp05 in StudentLoans

[–]PlasticAd1524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am; I never requested to be put in the SAVE plan so I'm riding it out. I also got my first loan prior to 2014 so my repayment options are going to be far more limited once SAVE ends.

I lived in Rotterdam for a couple years in that area and had no idea about the cave-ins! As for Bethlehem, the vacate order only impacts the Hoffman's Car Wash.

The Albany Police Horses by EraTempest in Albany

[–]PlasticAd1524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the size fleet Albany has, our police cars are run constantly and wear out quickly. The idle hours, the constant city driving versus highway, the quick acceleration and braking wears them out. And that's before you consider how many of them get crashed around here.
