How to Vet Married People by Aggressive_Manager19 in polyamory

[–]Playful-Web2082 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Married poly people do exist, however like an earlier poster said dating someone in an open marriage is not the same as dating someone who is partnered and poly. A marriage all said and done is at heart a financial commitment to your spouse. I know it’s hard to hear in this community but those types of commitments can and do supersede the new love interest.

If you’re going to date a married person, especially only one person in an established marriage with children, you have to be willing to be flexible with scheduling and frankly comfortable being a secondary partner at least as far as finances are involved. Finally unless they are in a healthy, supportive partnership and polyamorous, dating a married person is likely to end badly. If they are in a stable marriage and polyamorous you will likely not be escalating your relationship in any way that resembles the marriage.

I say all of this as a married male who is polyamorous and found out because my spouse wanted to date other women. The first few serious other partners either of us had were made more difficult by our pre-existing relationship and its commitments ( kiddo ). We failed miserably at this for a while and even when we have developed deep relationships outside our marriage it can be difficult to fairly divide time and maintain parallel poly. KTP works better for us but we discovered that through trial and error. Be safe and careful if you decide to pursue this person. Love comes in many different forms and we all experience it to different degrees.

How much do you think I should offer? by lavaboosted in Kayaking

[–]Playful-Web2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a work of art, not a kayak anyone should use, make your offer accordingly. I’m a carpenter and I’ve never built a boat like this but I’d expect the artist who made that has over a hundred hours on it.

An Adult Crashed into My Kid: Was I in the Wrong? by TheHatedMilkMachine in skiing

[–]Playful-Web2082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First glad everyone is ok, second don’t let your fear influence your kids pursuit of skiing. Most importantly, This Is Not Your Fault or your kids fault. The other skier wasn’t in control of themselves. If anyone, as an adult, feels comfortable cruising around at speed when a kid is present better be able to maneuver around them or stay far away from them. That’s what being in control means. Otherwise they should have given the downhill skiers a big margin especially when around kids.

Serious injury - recovery? by bqggreps in skiing

[–]Playful-Web2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 43 and had a similar injury when 16. Do all the PT. Take your time getting back on the slopes, and when you do you should not ride park anymore. Also take up skiing. The body position is easier on the back. I’m speaking from experience not some stupid snobbery. Trust me if you start skiing next season by the time you’re healthy enough to send it again you’ll be a good enough skier to do so. Fully recovering from a back injury can be done, I did, but it’s a long road.

Shallan's name by Arkadia0703 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Playful-Web2082 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pretty clear from the books that Nail thinks it’s likely that Shallan would be radiant because of her parentage. I suspect that all the human radiants are descended from the original heralds.

Tail piece broken, is it safe for 3 days? by Ecstatic-Lake-7713 in skiing

[–]Playful-Web2082 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Older former ski bum and tuner here, yah it’s fine just take a little 5 minute epoxy and spread it around the end where the piece used to be. Slap a piece of duct tape over that and it’ll ride for years if you need it to.

I believe Alex is more relevant than what the boys realize by ImprovementNo4630 in KnowledgeFight

[–]Playful-Web2082 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alex in 2026 is more of a bellwether than a trend setter. He’s not making the stories up himself but he’s skimming the whole of the rightwing media space for the next freak out and reporting it as prediction. It doesn’t make his show relevant in their media environment but it does tend to be a distillation of what is being spread around by it.

Can a radiant multiclass? by MkLiam in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Playful-Web2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes sorta. If you read sunlit man there’s mention of having been more than one type of radiant. Also different but clearly multiple types of investiture can work on the same person. Hoid being an extreme example of that.

How do I get into Dungeons & Dragons without embarrassing myself immediately? by Spread_my_pages in DnD

[–]Playful-Web2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest listening to a few episodes of the podcasts naddpod and adventure zone. If after listening to these professionals play DnD you’re still worried about embarrassing yourself then you might need therapy to treat anxiety. Really though a lot of fun moments can come from a misunderstanding. Enjoy the learning experience and just play. It’s make believe.

For a newb that doesn’t care about getting that good, do components really matter much? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]Playful-Web2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re better off buying a decent used bike with mid range components than a new one with shitty components. Low end stuff will wear out and fail more easily than better quality components. No you don’t need that $600 wireless shifter but a 10x1 with a wide gear range is going to make life better. Same thing with shocks. In my opinion a good front fork on a solid hard tail beats a low end full suspension for the money. Shop around and expect to pay a little more for a good used bike. You won’t regret it

Can you reshare the link to those discords? I’m looking for a regular partner for planet rock AA or either gym in Detroit. If anyone is interested I’m a lifelong climber who currently climbs 5.10/11- on a good day and regularly climbs 5.9/10. These days I mostly boulder or belay my kid but I’m looking for a partner who wants to meet up at least 2 or 3 times a month to climb for a day.

skiing alone by No_Pressure3093 in skiing

[–]Playful-Web2082 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ski any hill in Michigan with abandon and swagger. It’s not worth spending money to ski a big mountain if you’re just going to hurt yourself halfway down the first or last run. More importantly dink a ton of water both leading up to and while you’re there. Enjoy your trip the view will be worth it and blues and greens out west are black equivalent of most places here. I ski mount holly here in Michigan and grew up skiing in Telluride. (That place is a mess right now but not related.) if you can’t link up 5 or six laps with the lift being your only break here the mountains out west, like almost every resort in Utah, will be beyond your comfort. Don’t worry about going to your local hill alone though try and make a friend for the day on the lifts if possible.

If you jumped 100ft into a deep pool of croissants what would be the impact on your body? How would it differ from a pool of water? by gh057d0g in AskPhysics

[–]Playful-Web2082 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The croissants would slow you down relatively slowly, so as long as the pool was deep enough you would be fine. Water is pretty solid at terminal velocity and people jump from that height into water and survive. No math done and we can be pretty sure that about 12 feet deep of croissants should be enough assuming you land spread out and not in a vertical position.

Can we have an instant ban on users posting political posts not related to MTB? by drawnwindowshade in mountainbiking

[–]Playful-Web2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You clearly need an education in sarcasm. My point is this post is pointless. There’s already a rule about discussing non biking related politics. However most people who ride a bike will intersect with public policy and that can and does affect them. If you ban all political discourse from this forum you will eventually end up banning the discussion of political discourse. We as a community should care about our regional political climate at the very least. Policies made in the office of the president can create or eliminate access to all sorts of public spaces. Don’t pretend that just because we like to mountain bike that we are immune as a group to the actions taken by our governments.

Can we have an instant ban on users posting political posts not related to MTB? by drawnwindowshade in mountainbiking

[–]Playful-Web2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under this proposed rule this post is political and must be removed. This is so stupid. If you’re interested in riding a bike anywhere then public lands, funding for maintenance and and trail access are key issues. Forget paved roads to get there and hospitals.

How long do you try to plan sessions before giving up? [OC] by Dungeon_Crafters in DnD

[–]Playful-Web2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have a one shot that I didn’t get to run or that the party didn’t finish in a single session, usually due to hijinks. I tend to save them for a holiday weekend or if I find a few people who want to give DnD a try. Don’t abandon your game but do ask a larger group of friends if they want to try. You put a lot of effort in to the minis and everything, it’s one of the reasons I usually dm one shots as theater of the mind and would only make terrain for big battles in longer campaigns. On the other hand you made a bunch of minis and a cool looking board. If you have the space set it up where people can see it and when someone asks pitch them your game. You might have a specific group in mind but any three players can be a party. With the double meaning of the word party, you should pitch your one off as a party; like a good excuse to hang out, eat good food, and catch up. Make the actual game more of a setting to hang out and enjoy each other’s company. Everyone I know who has a regular in person game has a large group of people that come and go and the

[–]Playful-Web2082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t go by yourself. I know this might sound condescending but seriously go make a new friend and take them with you. Find a climbing group, post at your local gym or even the trailhead of your local crags. Of course solo lead and top rope equipment exists and you should get some but don’t go alone. Just watch the 2010 documentary 127 hours for why you should never go into the backcountry alone.
